#276 Re: Main Forum » You see a knife on the ground, what do you do? » 2019-03-18 21:58:13

if i have a backpack, i pick it up
if i don't, then don't & hope to get soon to a backpack & that nobody gets killed in the meantime

also depends on the town & how many knives there are, the more knives there are the safer it is to leave it,
if that's the only knife, then it will with a high probability end up in murder

People say free sheeps eat carrots. I’ve never seen that, but it might be true.

it not only "might be true", they just do,
carrot rows are in danger with free roaming sheeps

Anyway, I always domesticate sheeps without having a pen in young civilizations, to make compost ASAP. But I can’t see a reason for free sheeps in advanced civilizations.

i should start doing that as well

few sheeps early on is with the increased need for clothes probably a better idea than grind for milkweed,
i've set up now some milkweed farms in early settlements & it just feels like waste of everyhing, time, soil, space, hoe, skewers
with few sheeps around, the strain might become less
the only problem i see is still just the carrots in danger but if there are not endless rows, they can be picked since carrots are now stackable
can't be happy enough because of those stackable carrots big_smile
that means also, one should concentrate quite early on making shears, knives & backpacks
& for carrot seeds one could plant two rows further away, with the carrot seeds is still the same problem, not only free roaming sheep pick them but also everybody else

an advanced town, that's indeed something totally different

only if your carrots are safe
but in general i think it's an option

a better idea would be to have a simpler fence than the wooden
i am asking for a wattle fence since months

#280 Re: Main Forum » What do you loot? » 2019-03-18 00:24:18

in the run just now, where i was about to go for rabbit hunt with a cart i found a backpack, a knife, a loin cloth, three skinned mouflons, which i cut up into mutton & brought back to town, on the next turn found a dead turkey, which i plucked & skinned, brought back feathers & the turkey, on the third turn found 3 plates, the rest was this time just rabbits

#281 Re: Main Forum » NowYouSee(d)Me! A client mod for OHOL » 2019-03-17 13:49:18

thumbs up
very informative, should be probably implemented into the regular gameplay,
though i would suggest a modification, the seed graphic should be visible only with a shortcut,
cause in a messy town, which is rather the norm than the exception, additional stuff to see makes it even more messy

#282 Re: Main Forum » antking's bad idea (which should be implamented) » 2019-03-17 10:47:19

i think we should move away from the food obsession

maybe add rather obesity as a slow down in movement (yeah, politically incorrect) & even die from it at some point
also nausea from eating the same stuff over & over again, like for the 10th time a berry, for the 10th time the same pie
add a feature widening the yum, like an additional hidden emot by reaching a certain yum level, like /delight
add a favourite food feature giving another secret yum /fav

& i also would prefer the gameplay to be widened in other directions in life like painting, making music (with a limited sound scope of in-screen), making skulptures, bicycles, googles, shelves, wadrobes & closets, architectural elements, movies ... enough with the food for now, we shouldn't live in game just to eat, this is insane, not civilized

yes, realised that yesterday in game too

got to ommit that feature for as long it's bugged

#286 Re: Main Forum » Frag's Guide to Iron Runs » 2019-03-16 17:06:12

do you mean by SS, screenshot ?

if so, run the game through steam, it has an easy to use screenshot function
use also pictures from onetech.info

The clothing rework isn't the problem here, its the fact that clothing is needed now, while before, most people would run around naked, so a snow biome could cool you down fast enough to survive in most cases

Jason removed the sim step to clothing, which added warmth

i asked if that did the trick

clothing should insulate, no warm up, insulate against warm & cold temperatures towards perfect temperature
that update goes in that direction

#288 Re: Main Forum » Frag's Guide to Iron Runs » 2019-03-16 09:57:50

you should post this on Steam Guides
prefarably with some pictures

#289 Re: Main Forum » Swords into Sheep Shears! » 2019-03-16 09:55:03

YES lol

i wonder how that small change will impact the murder & griefing rate

#290 Re: Main Forum » Mosquitos too deadly? » 2019-03-16 09:48:14

did this happen before or after the change to how clothing works ?
cause Jason changed that with the Mar 15, 2019 update
https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/ … aee0fab393

i was dead two times in situtions as described before, so i know it was deadly
i have hoped the new change to clothing helped but didn't play today & didn't run fully clothed into mosquitos since that update, so didn't test it

#291 Re: Main Forum » Long time, no see. » 2019-03-15 12:57:18

carrots are stackable !!!

carrot seeds & milkweed seeds despawn within 5 min if left on the ground, in baskets & backpacks
& have to be collected in bowls to stay !

stackable mutton ?

Gutes Gelingen btw ! big_smile

#293 Re: Main Forum » I’m going to see how much KILLS I CAN GET! in 3 lifetimes. » 2019-03-15 12:35:57

if people are that easily killable, then they either deserve no better or they have still to learn the bitter OHOL lesson

as others practice in killing, i practice in survival

maybe it would be a worthy experiment, not to kill the killer but just remove oneself from his killing spree,
a baby sling would empower here the survival of the lineage btw

anyway
i am happy the last updates brought up finally more discussion threads about the problems of the actual peaceful civilization

@futurebird
yes, the "well meant killings", i think those are even worse than actual cold blooded murders,
because resulting from superstition & misinformation, those are the players when asked if new answer with N lol

#294 Re: Main Forum » The little bakery that could. » 2019-03-14 21:08:51

boxes directly over the oven is a bad idea, because people want to get to the boxes & they clutter the oven
also if you bake with several people & have one side blocked everybody stands in the way of the other
an oven is best placed two spaces free from all sides, even from the wall, or even better, in the middle of the bakery

also
i've seen a good idea, a turkey broth corner in the bakery, where the bones can be utilised

& a bakery needs an own fire & therefore piles of wood & kindling oc

#295 Re: Main Forum » The little bakery that could. » 2019-03-14 17:51:55

i think i was your mum & that was one of the very frustrating towns for me today
a noob got murdered for no reason, another guy got murdered "because he's been eating", geez

& all my runs today but one were when someone came to where i was doing something & started meddling in, only to leave the place later unattended, either the forge, the compost place, the carrot farm, the bakery

this is worse than outright griefing
bless the noobs that just stand around & watch people doing something & learn in peace
& curse the people who take & work without reason or consideration mad

but i had at least one good run, one good life today
where i revived a bakery & several other players helped & were not just doing stupid stuff but reasonable
there were three boxes, which were placed directly above the oven, between oven & wall & were totally in the way, so i moved them to the other side of the door, after that the bakery began to flourish, also because i established a fire in one corner of the place
that was the only good life i had

but the small bakery you describe might be a good one only if you are working alone, but in OHOL you shouldn't count on that, people want either help or just stand around disturbing
a bigger space is better functioning, not too big but a little bigger

nevertheless, i am happy your life turned out to be somewhat enjoyable,
i couldn't take it anymore & suicided as with the other unnerving lives today tongue

#296 Re: Main Forum » Tacos and Burritos » 2019-03-14 08:39:37

that's an interesting discussion

maybe tacos & especially burritos should be buffed then,
so they could win on efficiency

burritos have one advantage though
they can be put into containers

In a gen 2 run, my only daughter was iffy about staying. I begged her and she agreed. She never did any work and I was constantly worried she would run off and kill herself. When she was around fifteen she went to the desert and afk'd there. You can't have any kids at that temperature, so rip to that town. hmm

maybe that player didn't get the message with the temp update & thought desert will keep her warm, as it was before
i encountered many players who are not familiar with some changes done over the last months, not everybody is playing daily & checking out the last update
like some people are still using milkweed thread to sew clothing although wool would be easily available
some even still make compost piles although not even sheep pen there

#298 Re: Main Forum » for the last time shearing that last sheep » 2019-03-13 18:04:48

WHAT ?

first you complain about the pen cluttered
but then presented with a solution you complain about wasting iron ?

so what is it ?

may i remind you - OHOL IS A GAME
things done here which are not explicit griefing, aka done to anger other players, are part of the gameplay !!!

if things are cluttered, you use tools available to improve them
Jason introduced decay, decay is part of the game
ask Jason, again, to improve the iron situation, if you think iron is short
& don't ask me to change my need to improve the clutter situation by wasting my RL time by doing stuff in a game i don't want to - like being forced to make compost when i don't want to !

the result of that way of thinking will be - players will stop playing !!!

this is a game !

Then why not AFK/disconnect?

Fair enough but if you’re the last girl and I’m the only mom about to be 40, the lineage is dead. It bothers me when I take the time to set up a nice new place with my last name only for it to be for nothing. Run dead. Repeatedly. I can feed an AFK girl.

i don't play AFK, i play actively

i tried the disconnect, it doesn't function well

& the problem sits deeper than your personal experience in one life

1. to be a girl, a female in OHOL is unrewarding
2. being a male has the reversed problem, males are being killed because they are not a girl & they even kill themselves because there is no option for them to have kids

those two problems are linked & have to be solved on a more general level

you cannot ask other players to play something they don't want to
if a life is unsatisfactory, i suicide, no matter if baby, adult, female or male
if i spawn life after life a female baby, i am fed up
being a female is boring & stressful at the same time i won't do that life after life

one of the solutions would be to give a female a baby sling finally
so ask Jason, then i would be more willing to stay as female

another solution would be to give males the option of cabbage kids
this would solve the burden for all females to be a birthing machine

asking other players to be your birthing machine is not the solution - it's a multiplayer

#300 Re: Main Forum » The death of OHOL? » 2019-03-13 17:21:15

people who don't understand the point of OHOL, the fleeting life
will have a very hard time dealing with RL, cause RL is exactly like that, fleeting, everything breaks at some point, life itself as well
