Reading all this it seems no one likes the biome/race specialties but everything else like tool slots and oil shortage is okay, so there's ONE thing stopping us regulars from playing consistently again. I haven't played in almost a week or two and I agree with the opinions expressed here. The limitations are not fun.
I want to give it a try! Something fun and different than the usual murder and mayhem! I love the controlled chaos of the Bearena. I think you created a really fun game (that fertile moms definitely shouldn't play.)
Tattoos were great but everyone is too worried about the important stuff like finding mixed fams so we can survive and build what's needed. It's definitely become more tedious to play.
Sounds like a lot of us want similar things, wonder if it will have any significance or not.
I mean wine is fairly easy to make once the entire operation is set up. I've even taught a newbie in-game how to do it in less than 5 minutes. So you shouldn't be intimidated by its difficulty. Wine is hard to set up, but easy to reproduce once all that hard work is done.
That all being said though, I certainly don't mind grapes being edible, but they should probably be worth about as much as berries to be balanced. The biggest annoyance when it comes to bigserver grape/wine farms I see are that the funnel often goes missing, setting wine production at a standstill.
Thanks for the info! The person I twin with on the regular is big on wine and has tried to teach me also but even they only did it with the setup mostly done and like you said, people kept taking the funnel and the glasses. A newcomen from scratch I've still never been able to do alone...especially with the extra parts to make drill, hammer etc. thank goodness I have a more intelligent twin to help me sometimes. Unfortunately they're not playing for a while so no help from them for a bit, they want a new update or two to go back to because the last games we played were dire! (Griefers everywhere, even if most in the town trusted us not everyone trusts twins to do the justice killings and it ends with murder chains most times.)
This always makes me smile so, uh, I hope it helps a couple peeps smile too; https://youtu.be/nPDH4lZB6HU
Thank you for the history. Jesus I've been lurking for a long time. :(
I love most of the changes! Yay for edible tomatoes+onions and yay also for feast table/wine and some neat decorative stuff to play with! I love that the rift went away, not so much keen on hierarchy stuff but I hear it is rarely used so it's not a big deal. Tool slots I can live with but honestly I wish it wasn't a thing as I always get caught short by it. The soil thing still bugs me and I'm sure a few others but it again is not a massive issue. the one update I wish we didn't have at all; Biome specialties. Although I have adapted to it, I find I have been trying to choose my play style a lot more because my favourite things to make require that I not be white. Some people dislike that this happens but I'm not the only one doing it for sure. I don't like having to run around looking for water, oil spots and rubber for seals etc. all the time so I do other stuff to keep the fun alive!
I can't wait for the newer players to finally start climbing the tech tree. I always mention onetech if there are a few peeps asking to be taught and I even include onetech in my final words often just in case. Once you know how to navigate it's not super hard to write things down step by step like I did. I think there's too many new players still that vets/regulars are struggling to keep everything tip top shape, however with time (and directing them to the website in game) hopefully we'll get more progress and easier, sustainable villages/towns.
Grapes + Round Rock = Purple Dye
I wish! +1 on that idea. :D
It's a shame making wine (from scratch at least) Is a mammoth task I haven't dared to brave yet, so some sweet/edible grapes with a different recipe would be kewl. I like anything purple.
I don't think anyone here thinks that teamwork is bad. More that the teamwork feels imposed in an artificial way and that being able to do the teamwork requires the wrong kind of grind. But I don't think anyone objects to such teamwork. Also, there's no teamwork if you can't find other people that you need on your team, which I think Legs and some others have indicated as happening.
But hey, you like it. Good for you for stating your opinion.
Yeah the new updates in theory were a good idea (Forced adventure and relocation/mixed fams and languages) It gave paper a decent use for translation and I always see maps around holding useful information like tarry spots and other race towns but I think the majority would just rather do it all themselves like before of course. without the restrictions. But the new updates (biome specialty/rank) put a lot of emphasis on having to work together for survival so we're in this for the long run I think. If that's the case I'll still pick and choose what I want to do, as no-one likes all the choices being available then taken away. I apologise if it's selfish but a game is a game and I want to play it in a way that would give me the most enjoyment.
Even with max tool slots if you're a busy, regular player you will run out regardless, happens very often and is frustrating having to adapt to a system that had so much more freedom not but a few months back.
I don't think there's any harm in playing your fave race or town really! Even if people think it's dumb some people might do it if they're feeling like they want something different than a usual life of constant contribution to farm, food, water, rubber, oil or clothes until death. Plus I think giving people tattoos is a nice gift~It made me, as a player, feel giddy and charmed by its simpleness and it also requires teamwork! What's so bad about that honestly?
Build a snowman why not? Decorate the trees hell yeah! Make all the dyes together in a mixed town and go multicolour! It's about the little things sometimes man. ![]()
Languages definitely grew on me, I wasn't a fan at first but I think the fact that you can communicate in notes is cute and funny, until someone steals your balls. ![]()
So... basically this upgrade promoted suicide.
Umm, well...Yes. I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to pick and choose their start though...Frowned upon again I know, but I've played a lot of OHOL and I know what playstyle I enjoy.
I received my first tatt when I was literally just born, my mom just asked these three already inked guys to tattoo me and I /happied because I for sure wanted that sick ink. I felt like the coolest baby ever (got the tribal x line across the chest) and I rushed onto onetech to get the recipe and do it myself after living that life. four failed tries later (two deaths by bites/ two lacking salt water) I got someone to help me when I was old and I gave her two tattoos as payment as I had only five minutes to live by then lol. One of the best feelings in game ever.
Nice to read your analysis DarkDrak! And for the others speaking up.
Ty for asking for opinions, I know there's a lot of them but you ask some good questions Spoon.
I confess to slash dying a few times both twin and single play wanting to be tan so I could make tattoos(I know that's generally a no-no but when they came out/after the fix I had to!)...Imagine with limited restrictions we could all be inked, it would be so feckin awesome. ![]()
Thanks for the giggles, Thaulos! You made me and my better half laugh. :'D binge watching some of your OHOL vids now, good stuff.
I've been lurking for a while, I believe I purchased my first copy soon after the beta testing closed? When Oil didn't exist and when you got instantly killed with one click with a weapon. My first ever game that I played I was a naked newb and some guy wanted to show me something, took me off screen and one shot me dead execution style with a bow and arrow. It definitely showed me what I was getting into pretty quickly...lol.
Okay so I don't remember a lot of details of this life, it was a while back and my memory is vague. I was an old ginger woman and I had a pretty great life I think it was one where I taught some things but not sure. What I remember vividly was being fifty eight, with two minutes to live, and one of my boys from the fam rushed me off with a firebrand, took me to a decorated pine tree nearby and lit that sucker up and as soon as I saw it (for the first time in game) I about almost shed a tear for real. I think I said it was beautiful and thanked him so much for the best life yet. What a champ, whoever that guy was.
Literally no one except streamers care about the hierarchy shit until jason makes bbs auto follow mama, which given Jason's weird obsession with rank names might not happen. So no worries! You're unlikely to see anyone use it ever
Yeah I noticed in the vid that a decent amount of players were just working to be fair, which is a good sign
I played a game yesterday where I was a lord but I didn´t know who follows me or who I followed so the badge/name thing was really confusing because there was also multiple familes. I think there should be some sort of UI that you can click and it pops up a new window or something and shows the entire tree in real time. Saying this is roleplay is like saying relgion irl is roleplay. What jason should do, is double the amount of letters you can type after 8 so that it doesnt just increase linearly. doubling the amount of letters would a huge help since theres an increase in word commands.
You make a couple of good suggestions to make it easier to understand, but whether or not it can be done I have absolutely no idea. I reckon it'll be confusing for most people for a while until we live with it.
You know what feature I would enjoy? Purple dye, that shit would rock my world.
Hello, long time player and forum lurker, just popping in to give my two pence. I only played a few rift games and took a break until it was removed, but I don't think this new followers update will be removed so I'm waiting for the novelty of it to wear off so I don't see ranked people roleplaying and shanking eachother and myself for not taking part in the hierarchy. I already saw this kind of thing happen in the newest Twisted video.
