Yes it's a stupid fucking change watching multiple people be unable to do something against one person leading bears/stealing.

I can shoot all the bears, I can shoot all the boars but I can't shoot the twat doing it because posse magic and everyone who would have formed the posse being unable to actually form one.

All this shit stems from Jason not wanting to nerf swords and now we're at this retarded point where you can't even form the posse to kill someone.

They're on the spring grid like every other resource nowadays. If a spring would be located in a badlands its converted to an iron vein and if a spring would be located in the arctic its converted to basically be a tarry spot.

Just follow the grid and hope you can find one closer rather than further.

Jason being goofy once again.

Back in my day the good guys had the actual power and weren't forced into just running or dying. I remember being able to take away weapons from these kinds of idiots and being able defend against attacks from bad players.

Why do you think three organized people in discord were able to murder 12~ or so different people?

"Hey guys ann" "ibella is grief" "ing and killing" "everyone" vs "Hey guys, lets all target so and so. You go and shout join so confused people don't know what is going on." Even if I could have communicated properly at the time I would have just been stabbed even faster.

You also have people trying to actually solve the food problem so they're distracted by trying to feed the town while the trolls are murdering and targeting. How do you expect a bunch of starving unorganized players to stay on top of three people feeding each other and protecting each other? Oh yeah we just need to put fences around their vaginas to prevent births!

You're patching holes in a crappy system is the problem. Instead of saying "Oh shit, a 15 second cooldown weapon with full running speed is OP I better fix that" you said "Oh shit, a system based around outsmarting your opponent we can't have that!"

Even if they didn't have knives they could have created arrows and bows as children to enable this sort of slaughter anyways. So instead of continuing to rant lets look at the problems.

1). Communication. Even when I exactly knew who was griefing and what they were doing it was impossible for me to tell anyone as I was too young in the first place.

2). Curses aren't effective in these situations. For one, you need to be old enough to curse and you're not going to have three curses when this exact situation comes up. In fact, I had to walk back in a second life to curse one out of the three players.

3). As a target you have no idea how many people are required to target you to attack you. I thought our 16~ population meant we couldn't be stabbed by less than 4 people. Jk, three targeted me and I died without knowing what the magic number was.

4). The posse system can't normally catch someone on a horse. We've all seen some asshole stealing shit or riding around with a horse to be a pest. Getting four people to form a posse is hard enough but you're still tied for speed with a horse rider meaning unless they fuck up you can't catch them.

5). Biome immunity and dying in bad biomes. Get far enough into a bad biome either on horse or foot and you become invulnerable. If you die in a bad biome your name becomes unreadable ex: hovering over a skeleton in a bad biome gives scorching desert instead of a name. This also allows you to dump your gear where no one can get it.

6). It's impossible to even deal with a threat solo should you find them in the woods due to having both slowdown AND a 15 second wait or whatever it is. I ended up finding one of those three alone on a horse but because of the long wait they just ran off. Ended up swap item tricking them for an engine and horse though because these kids are idiots abusing a dumb system.

At least in the old system (with balanced weapons) you at worst traded one for one with a griefer by removing them and being stabbed by an idiot townie. In the new system you are at the mercy of when the trolls decide they want to team up and stab a family to death.

Also I like the part of the video where they cut out me shit talking them but hey, they're the better players after all :^)

Also could have infertile females in the other lineages. I remember at one point two Eves coming to a nearby tan village making it impossible to spawn as black/ginger leaving only the tan and whites to be viable spawn points.

Well you're missing out because even doing things as silly as tattoos can be... fun! I remember teaching people how to do tattoos and how excited people can get when you offer them something as silly as just some black ink on their face. While I don't really care for wine making glassblowing can be pretty fun because it's a sort of balancing act.

You generally need 2+ rods and need to work fast else it cools  and you've wasted your time. As annoying as tool slots can be having biome restrictions is just so much worse overall. I'd rather have to make choices on slots than just be straight locked from content unless I'm repeatedly killing myself which is frustrating for all parties involved.

#337 Re: Main Forum » Engines from wells are being stolen and they probably always will be. » 2020-04-15 20:29:47

fug

These changes are based off the idea that the in game systems determined you need to do X instead of Y and were enforced by the game.

It's also not players recycling these engines because it's needed but people doing it to be annoying. It's
the same issue that solo killing had. By allowing one person to wipe out a family from inside is just completely off base. It makes "sense" to grief or steal from other families but mechanics solely used to grief your own family doesnt make sense.

If the game was following inspiration from other mechanics the diesel engine would have a chance to break and then be scrapped and remade. The current idea is just bad and another warsword attempt to push fences.

I find it fascinating that even under extreme pressure, we still do not see villages living off milk as a primary diet.  I see it made in a few villages, here or there, but never see villages that do a "milk only" or even "milk mostly" diet.

It suggests to me that milk is broken, but NOT in the way Jason thinks.   I have tried to establish milk in villages over and over, with limited success.  Even when it looks so much better on paper, it just doesn't seem to perform very well in the game.

I think the major reason it's not as widely adapted as it should is the bucket requirement, and many seem to think that buckets should be reserved for water.

I mean I personally find that making milk just doesn't have the same satisfaction as doing anything else.

Pies have a reasonable amount of steps
Stew takes a bit of work and still feels good
Fishing obviously takes setup and execution

Milk requires you to either farm or gather the worst crop (milkweed) and the actual action of milking doesn't really have the wow factor like other foods. It's just a quick ten second window to milk a cow three times then rinse and repeat.

Milk has been boring since its release for me personally, I only ever use the stuff when others make it and for hungry work since it's one of the best foods in game.

#339 Re: Main Forum » Why do we have so many children? » 2020-04-14 19:32:37

/Die should just go down a list

A Race > /die > B Race > /die > C Race > /die > D Race > /die > A Race

This at least cuts down normally people sidding instead of the sort of mess we have right now. If you're locked out of a race/family then you would quickly realize because you'd be going from A to C then D which means someone has you cursed in the B family.

No one wants someone constantly using /die on them, and no one wants to be constantly spamming baby bones on someone expecting kids. I personally feel like life tokens are just a failed idea because as soon as people realized they could abuse them we returned to the state of people returning to their families anyways.

So once you use the /die command the game should bring up a screen that shows a surname and you just click it then boom. No more needing to annoy people with mass sids or these false start lives where people get stuck picking up the same players bones repeatedly.

Played about three lives with the food nerf and I'll state it right away: Just tuning numbers isn't going to fix the issue, however there were some good and definitely bad things that came with these lives.

The good:

- It's pretty nice seeing people working together and trying to make things work. All my lives took place in my fishing area where about half the gingers migrated when the main town was going to shit. Feels good seeing a group work together and (try) to keep things moving smooth.

The bad:

- No one can really teach in such a chaotic environment especially something that wasn't really meta anyways. How do we fix the nets? Why can't I use this fishing rod? Where do worms come from? Sorry kids, I'm trying to get these things and I'm the only person doing it which means I have no time to teach.

The ugly:
- The people who were already eating bad foods make things incredibly difficult. Can't repair the nets if all the berries and carrots are eaten by locusts ignore the mutton and pies. People setting down skewers on other skewers are accidentally making knitting needles which makes it hard to feed people because now on top of other things we need more skewers again.

The good:

- With food values being different there's now a newish meta to try to figure out.

The bad:

- Holy shit are there now just a bunch of terrible foods that solely exist to yum off of. Watching people grow onions, carrots, or tomatoes is cringeworthy. Carrot pies? My god please stop.

The ugly:

- Please Jesus, get them away from the carrots... they're eating six carrots at a time to fill up and it's honestly killing me inside. A berry bush is 14 pips, a row of carrots is 15. These numbers are terrible like absolutely abysmal because they're not balanced around anything besides being half value. This is the issue food had before but now people stuff themselves with even more crappy food.

My takeaway from this little experience is that its cool seeing people try new meta stuff and working together, however... none of this is balanced and wasn't really balanced before any of the test. You can't teach anyone in a world where you're trying to keep them fed when they don't know what they should be eating.

PS. Remove the diesel engine from going into a scrap box unless you add an rng chance that it breaks and requires being scrapped. This by far has only been something used to grief towns even with kerosene which is just plain dumb.

#341 Re: Main Forum » How to REALLY Stop /die Babies » 2020-04-12 02:20:45

fug

I mean some babies suicide if you've got an ugly town and some suicide based off the people or the race they spawn as. I almost never play anything other than ginger because you require gingers to make fishing villages and what not.

I generally find it more fun to play in the same place either when building a place up or revisiting an old town so I also am unlikely to live anywhere out of a place I've been at previously. Basically people /die for many reasons.

#342 Re: Main Forum » Food nerf » 2020-04-11 20:49:33

fug

Food really should just be the next big rework as there's way too much variance related to skill and effort vs reward.

A bad shepherd will end up being a net negative on food by just refeeding sheep to get wool as fast as possible which just floods a pen with shit.

A good shepherd will end up being a net positive if they make sure to harvest both the meat and wool at the same time.

As an extreme in one life I ended up producing 92 mutton solo as a byproduct of me fixing and preparing wool for future net fixing. I'm out here casually producing 900~1100+ pips a life by just making sure to not be lazy and this isn't even counting the fish I'm catching.

Food should just straight up rot instead of requiring more and more effort from veterans to make up for the lower numbers. Me making 92 mutton would be incredibly harmful if it threatened to essentially waste a bunch of space if townies didn't use it up in a reasonable amount of time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then of course we have the issue of foods having whacky values anyways.

Omelet - 17
Fish - 18
Burrito - 18

Which of these is not like the other? The omelet has always been one of the worst offenders of effort vs reward. It takes absolutely no effort to go around and collect eggs which then give you one of the best food values you can get in game. Fish are now mostly family locked but require a bunch of time collecting worms, and burritos while taking more steps can be produced on a higher level.

In a world where we no longer are bounded by 20 pip values there should be foods like feast tables but they gotta make sense. If a feast table is worth less pips separate than it is together why would you make the table in the first place?

Buff the tacos, the stews, the sauerkraut, the french fries, and the salsas's of the world. Make more combo platter like meals which take time but are more rewarding.

Seafood boil! - Corn, shrimp, potatoes, lobster!
Cakes! - Sugar, egg, flour, vanilla?!

The point is we shouldn't be eating berries from early to late game. Food should slowly become more processed and thus be more pips overall while low tier food is left for Eves to snack on.  Basically more effort should = more pips.

#343 Re: Main Forum » My thoughts » 2020-04-09 00:51:39

fug

Imagine trying to stab someone in the wilds with slowdown and a 15 second wait.

Even if there was a valid reason for it, it would be impossible.

In relation to every other restriction it is implied that new people would make up for the lack of veterans doing X and that's just not the case. I'd rather see a world where veterans have the option to teach people and do something than the "Sorry we're not the correct color to do Y."

#344 Re: Main Forum » meme-score feels bad when tied to tool-slots » 2020-04-08 21:03:35

fug

Maybe when you're so far away from your family they don't count against/for you?

How are you supposed to making a meaningful effect on someone living 2k away? Why should you get a bonus from people you've never even been near?

Best bet is to just nope out of the system and kill yourself if you run out of tools or get useless tool slots. As someone who either plays with unlimited slots (due to server reset) or 5 slots it incentives you to just suicide (which harms others score.)

By caring about meme score you're just pigeonholing yourself into your own cage. Set up whatever you're going to do (for example building a fishing hut) then proceed to kill yourself and rejoin the family then do whatever you were gonna do.

#345 Re: Main Forum » Sheep needs a change » 2020-04-07 13:37:24

When poop is being produced to the level you need dung boxes that means its a problem.

You're never going to be in a state where you're composting whole boxes away while not having poop already in the pen.

DestinyCall wrote:

Doesn't poop already decay?

Why is this even a problem?

I think people just find issue with the pen getting flooded with poop. Ever since Jason introduced hungry work to sheep he discouraged both griefing the pen (killing all the sheep) and people actually slaughtering sheep like they would previously (no more mutton biomes.)

Since the people wanting wool aren't killing sheep the sheep pen gets filled up with tons of poop which makes working inside the pen a complete mess with poop and corpses everywhere. Best choice is to teach the lazy folks how to kill > shear > feed > repeat instead of spam feeding the same sheep.

#348 Re: Main Forum » Been a while but can I make a suggestion? about this iron you see..... » 2020-04-04 23:14:10

As someone who has done a lot of mining the flow feels terrible. 10 pips for one iron makes it so you're stuck eating every smack and your food options end up pretty limited.

If anything mining shows why hungry work should be a case by case cost instead of some flat cost.

I'd say screw'em and leave it as is even if it is too strong considering they're finally getting what they deserve. If I was going to change it I'd leave it as black text for a person for a month, but the blocking only last a week this way people can be forgiven and people who you explicitly know were being asshats you just renew your block on each week.

#350 Re: Main Forum » Scrap the Scrap Engine » 2020-04-03 20:09:25

????

Ahh yes, because the freedom to play the game however you want is the same as adding a function that is used solely to grief. This might make sense if you didn't add the ability to just chuck the towns water source directly into a box and smash it by yourself but that's not how things went.

This is the same issue as griefing has always had. The guy who is going to smash your diesel engine isn't going to be the needy town next door but some random person in your lineage smashing it when population drops.
