Regarding the bone piles, they are an important aesthetic part of the game.  You walk to one corner of the village and see all those bones, and it's like, "Holy crap, look at all these people."

I think it's easy to look at this game through jaded eyes.  Remember long ago, in your first few game, when you first stumbled onto a screen full of bones?  Watch any YT video where they encounter that, and they are shocked and amazed.

IMHO, it breaks the immersion... it doesn't look like the surroundings of a town, but a battle field. Or a civilization where everybody died to some form of disease so quickly that burying or burning the bodies wasn't possible.

The visual of "rows of dirt mounds" just isn't as strong.  If it was rows of tombstones, maybe....  but making that would would require some other changes (there just aren't enough flat stones, currently).

How about implementing a flat stone pit? It could have the same visuals as iron pits, but yield piles of flat stones.

People are not trolling when they are serious.  Trolling requires a lack of sincerity.  Towns need buckets sooner or later.  The do NOT need wood flooring.

Wood flooring does waste fun for other people since it becomes more difficult to make wooden shoes, buckets, carts, or sledges.  I believe that children have more fun when their mom can outfit them with wooden shoes, or other shoes during their infancy.  Moms not being able to outfit their children with clogs because the local butt logs get used up on wooden floors sure does sound like children having less fun.

Wood is not iron. I agree to save iron when possible. Have fun with wood.
If there's not enough wood, make a horse and cart, take an axe, and bring more wood back to town.
The problem isn't people using wood. It's that people don't bring enough wood back to camp (if there's a problem at all).

Wood floors are great.

lol.  Players attracted by floors just aren't quality players.  Maybe later stage towns end up worse, because players who realize the problems with buildings and wood flooring won't stick around.  Buildings LOOK AWFUL.  Wood flooring LOOKS AWFUL also.

I would gently remind you that this is just your opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

And I disagree with you.

If there is no room for other people's work in the towns you are in, how about running a private server where nobody will make what you consider to be mistakes?

Remember that the first rule of the game should be to have fun. Since we're sharing a world, let's try not to lessen other people's fun.

That means, griefing is lame, and accusing other players of being "not quality players" when they're having fun is contrary to what the game should be about.

Spoonwood wrote:

The bucket problem isn't about min/max perfection.  You simply cannot advance in terms of the quality of a town without enough buckets.

I'm all for more buckets. Cut down some trees and make more buckets. Nobody's stopping you.

It's not useless if it was fun to the person doing it and if there are others living in the same town who enjoy wooden floors in buildings.

The only truly useless act is griefing, because it is a way of actively hindering and boring others. Wooden floors are not detrimental to your experience in any way unless you choose to be annoyed by them.

Spoonwood wrote:

and a positive inhibition on other things like cows, wooden shoes, rubber, deep wells, newcomen technology, sauerkraut, ice cream, and iron mining.

Wood is not iron.

Again, if this really is such a big problem, we need to ask Jason to either make floors cheaper, or trees less rare.

#355 Re: Main Forum » Late game idea: modern people forget how to eat wild food. » 2019-05-03 18:56:07

I suspect it is only too easy right now because there is never an exponential population growth. At least there doesn't seem to be more people in late game towns than in early game villages.

#356 Re: Main Forum » Wood Flooring (Other Than for Improving Crop Picking) is The Devil » 2019-05-03 15:18:37

I like wood floors regardless of heating. Give me floors without walls any day.

If the resources are better used elsewhere, I would suggest to implement cheaper floors (although I don't know what that would be... dirt floors? Sounds too dark, part of the point is to see available tools and ingredients quickly. Carpets? Sounds expensive...)

#357 Re: Main Forum » Mid-level tech that people will scramble to build... » 2019-05-02 19:29:47

Would it be possible to have sinks hooked up with pipes to advanced pumps where we can get water with bowls, not buckets? Like a cistern, but functions like a shallow well. It would make life just a little bit easier smile

#358 Re: Main Forum » Total Lifetime curse score system is bad and harms veteran players. » 2019-05-02 19:16:57

Maybe we don't need blessings. It could be a pure game mechanic: If you have a high curse score, but you haven't been cursed for a while (X amount of time), then if you're in a family that survives for a while (Y amounts of generations) after you spent time there, your curse score will decrease.

It makes it a bit random perhaps whether the curse score decreases, but it gives cursed people an opportunity to work actively to reduce their scores.

Just an idea.

#359 Re: Main Forum » Idea for pond distribution » 2019-05-02 18:10:44

If ponds are rare and hard to find, as mentioned earlier in this thread, perhaps they could be surrounded by some plant or flower that would be an indication to experienced players that water is nearby?

#362 Re: Main Forum » Why does everybody only want to be Eve? » 2019-05-01 10:27:20

I'm not a fan of walls, but I like wooden floors. They're good for organizing space.

Might I suggest kitchen layout:

- Wooden floor
- Walls in corners only (pillars)
- Instead of walls, use wooden boxes

That way we could surround the kitchen with boxes of pies, easily accessible from the outside, very little waste of space.

#363 Re: Main Forum » Ideas to make people care about and enjoy cities more. » 2019-05-01 06:46:45

Another request that's come up a lot:

Make burying people not waste iron

(Speaking of which, would it be possible to have a flat stone mine?)

#364 Re: Main Forum » My husband the new player » 2019-05-01 06:23:26

I still dislike bones in town, especially in the kitchen and wherever babies are kept. It just feels unhygienic. (Less so near crops... I mean in Minecraft we can grind bones into magic fertilizer, so...) I usually spend some time moving bones out of town, and I would love it if I could bury them without feeling guilty about the iron waste.

#365 Re: Main Forum » Mid-level tech that people will scramble to build... » 2019-04-30 22:05:53

I would love to see some form of tech that lessens the grind in mid / late game towns.
In OHOL we get better water pumps as we progress through the tech levels, but as someone mentioned, even in modern towns we water and fertilize bushes one agonizing bowl at a time.

The great thing about it is
- it gives kids a way to be useful while close to food
- it gives new players something to do, a feeling of mastery, they are useful to the city

However, it gets very grindy. I think Stardew Valley solved that problem in a very good way: Upgrading tools. By upgrading tools, we could care for more plants at a time. It gave a sense of progression, and of achievement when finally I could afford better tools than the ones I had.

Something as simple as a water can made of iron would be something worth striving for. And later, how about an irrigation system? A horse with plow to help spread the dirt more efficiently, perhaps it could even lessen the amount of dirt needed, so that the berry/compost needed vs yield would be better. Later on, a tractor.

This would improve the working conditions greatly.

We'd just have to make sure there was a way for kids to have something useful to do and for new players to feel useful.

Basically planes and by extension cars are useless to make on big server due to the player base being grabby grabby with them.

Yes, well, planes are complicated to use as well as to make, given that there are no planes to practice on, so most players will never learn.

We might learn to leave the planes alone perhaps.

But it does sound like some fixes are in order.

Would it be possible, if there were enough planes, that having a landing strip would be a guarantee that a plane would show up eventually?

So you might not get your specific plane back, but a plane would always return.

Especially if only advanced towns could build the landing strips. Maybe a requirement could be to put some oil/diesel into the bowl of plaster to get the landing strip. Maybe that would help?

Huh, I don't really know the details of the temperature change. That was during my extended hiatus. Nothing seems much different though, except you can't exploit temperature perfect tiles anymore. You also can't sit on a large slow fire and sit there for 20 minutes before needing to eat lol.

There were towns that flourished and had huge storage spaces filled with pies and goodies, all while almost everyone ran around in the nude, as far as I remember.

I like that there is a lot more focus on clothes now. But even so, clothes seem scarce. Clothes do decay, which I don't mind, but I think clothing could do with a little tweaking. But - that's really not the topic of this thread smile

Hold up. If Pein one of the most competent (and arrogant) players I know hasn't been able to fly a plane that means basically no one is using them. We gotta change that. I was thinking I lacked skill because I've never done anything with planes. What would need to change to make them less rare?

There seemed to be planes and cars galore before the temperature update.

Life is harder now...

For projects like this, I guess there are things the town needs to provide the DADDYs as well. Like a surplus of food? A way to secure the lineage so the DADDY can be reborn to the town perhaps?
(I'm just guessing, I've never built advanced stuff myself.)

My feeling (based on very limited knowledge) is that if we could have an additional way to make backpacks, perhaps from cow hide, then more rabbit fur would go towards clothing in larger cities, people would be warmer, use less food, and we could more easily get the infrastructure going to care for the DADDYs properly.

FeignedSanity wrote:

Hmmmm, so I got stabbed by some mentally deficient fellow complaining that my engines were using up too much iron. Maybe people don't want cars or planes?

Oh that sucks.

Although I remember from before the temperature update, when there were cars and planes around, they weren't for everyone. Often people would be killed if they used them, because it was seen as theft. I don't remember them actually being used for anything useful, they were mostly for show it seemed.

It's easier to spot when someone uses a horse cart to bring valuable resources back to town.

No, I wasn't playing with him.

And yes, it always happens two times in a row.

#371 Re: Main Forum » Cornerstone."built by LASTNAME XX years ago" » 2019-04-29 20:05:29

BTW, Twisted seems to have encountered a bug with the graves. They can sometimes change between names and the text 'forgotten person' and even between different people. See 22:00 here:

https://youtu.be/P2OEG_0onV0?t=1320

BTW II, I love being told about my relationship with the deceased when I look at graves and bone piles! smile

BTW III, I too think some form of cornerstone or just the ability to add a small plaque perhaps would be really cool.

#372 Re: Main Forum » Lag spike, high ping, bouncing pls fix. » 2019-04-29 19:51:34

Twisted has caught the disconnects on video, see for example 15:30 and 22:15 in this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPJKWB7 … u.be&t=930

I experience the same, so it's not his Internet connection. My impression is that it usually happens when someone dies, yet not every time someone dies... that could be just a coincidence though.

#373 Re: Main Forum » Why you don't reach age 4? (Poll) » 2019-04-29 17:20:20

Had a baby in my arms, disconnected, by the time I returned the baby was bones on the ground. Don't know what happened.

Last time I didn't reach age 4 my mother Eve decided to kill herself on a snake.

#374 Re: Main Forum » Changes to the game that could make griefing harder » 2019-04-29 10:52:13

Let Donkey Town be an option to go to for non-griefers as well. A Log In To DT-button on the start screen.

If I understand correctly, I would then always start as an Eve, never have kids, and the focus can be on PvP. Sounds like an interesting choice to have.
