i use it if it's handy, but as the game goes, mostly it's not

quite salty all that

i think the limit is crossed if someone is making serious money from someone else's work available for free

signing a publisher agreement ? lol

@Jason, you should had limit the public domain to PC only, the platform your official version is actually on
allowing a mobile version only after you made your own, cause mobile is a greed dump

@Christoffer
just shut down the servers until you find a final solution, how about that ?
oh, right, it's a big biz now, isn't it ? your big money would maybe sail off ...

decency would have told you that stepping into a signed agreement with a publisher should mean changing name, main idea of one hour limitation, exchanging all original drawings, sounds & codes used directly
if then a publisher would be still interested, fine, if not then you should have opened a negotiation with Jason to licence the mobile version allowing him the saying, yeah bitter ...
even if it's public domain & open source doesn't mean that you can just grab it & claim ownership & do as if you would be the owner & maker
decency helps a lot in cases like that

i was fully clothed, wool hat, rabbit shoes, loin cloth, coat
was fairly fed, i stood in the prairie, so surely not too warm, since next to snowy tundra, so i went there to lower the temp
didn't help AT ALL
temp stayed MAX, hunger dropped within few seconds = DEAD

I only started playing a couple of weeks back.  Loved what I saw of the game from videos and the trailer.  Started playing and it was a learning curve, but it felt manageable.  I am a sucker for punishment and tend to play some "hardcore" games.  But this new update has made the game far less fun to play.

I thought I was getting a civilisation building game with a survival undertone.  This last update makes it feel more of a brutal survival experience where you aren't just fighting the elements and environment but now one single player can bring many hours of other peoples work to an end.  If I wanted that experience I would just go back to playing Rust or Unturned where hours/days of work can be undone in a matter of minuets.

The way the game is right now feels something sick and sadistic.  Is the game supposed to only be for the elite and not inviting to more casual players?  The response to any complaints about the new update seems to be meet by pretentious elitists that think they are something godley because they play a game with a average population of 130 people and has lost 10% of the player base in the last 30 days.

yes, this game is elitist

but no, this is not a new occurance
it just feels that way if you're new to it
there were before that last hard update other updates which booted out a number of players who came to play a civ builder & parenting simulator, as was & still is promissed in the trailers & the advertizing screenshots

every casual player who dares to protest will be first shushed down by the "experienced hard core" players & then booted out by the next update leaning again towards harder survival, new killing methods & fancy high tech nobody but the elitists uses

enjoy !

#387 Re: Main Forum » Crazy idea: make high-tech life easier, not low-tech life harder » 2019-02-22 13:03:57

before we add more weapons there should be more to the everyday life

i am not against more weapons per se but the ratio between weapons & the options to do something useful in the game is meantime very off, there is simply not enough interesting stuff to do in game & so some players are just bored while murder is the most easy thing to do if you're into that kind of gameplay

the everyday life had to be rewarding
atm it is not
thus people farming were already named slaves while they actually are just constructive

& yes, before there can be trade there has to be
A) property
B) diversity in maps

i think a property system & mechanics had to go with a jobs system & mechanics
a job had to be a sort of property as well
the time in game is so short, it all blurrs to one grind fest of the same unrewarding jobs, if you're lucky then you don't get killed for it

there had to be inheritance
things had to be assigned, places had to be assigned, jobs had to be assigned
is oc an immensely complex thing but i don't see any other possibility how trade can ever be a thing in OHOL if there is no property
war is out of question as well, there has to be a reason for a war, OHOL lacks in the reason section alot

but back to the initial idea
i am here most interested in the low tech part of it

i think, progress is initiated by boredom with a convenient life loop one could repeat forever

making the low tech more varied with more options to do it differently would make the overall gameplay more interesting
i am still in favour of more basic stone tools, a stone axe & a stone knife, that would enable sheep herding early on without the necessity for iron smithing, it would also enable for a basic settlement management
stone tools should break way more easily than steel tools, they should be less efficient & thus giving more to do but they should be an option
instead of carpentry with stone tools i would suggest wicker as material, dragable wicker carts, bigger wicker boxes to store stuff, wattle fence for sheep pen

the game would become more diverse, because some players would prefer to play in a stone age village while others would prefer to go asap to steel tools, as it is now
one had a choice

& in general, the players should have a say where they spawn, if in an Eve's camp, if in a stone age village or if in a developed town with steel tools, cars, kerosine pump & all that glitz

#388 Re: Main Forum » Just had the best experience! Also new player question. » 2019-02-22 12:08:19

i think i ought to write some guides

this game needs guides, cause it seems so complex to a new player while it actually isn't

& tx to @pein, you're being quite helpful ^^

#389 Re: Main Forum » Would maps be possible? » 2019-02-22 12:02:07

craftable map plz
craftable zoom plz

would make awbz obsolete
also
players using mods should be marked, just to be warned & have the choice if i want to remain near such a player or not,
cause i play vanilla & constructive, even if i am the last man i don't kill others or myself,
i value my life in OHOL, no matter what
i wish there was a reward for that, a reward for valuing life in OHOL, a blessing system would be good ...

i like that idea

would end up in something similar to a guild system,
players had finally some saying with what sort of players they want to play,
cause so far the randomness is literally deadly & foremost unpleasant to play

#391 Re: Main Forum » Education of the baby. "Child tours" » 2019-02-22 11:49:33

i don't like tours but i don't mind
i don't like being asked if i'm new either, though i ask kids if they are new, just to know what they know, but to be honest, it's useless, since who knows what it means to be "not new", most of the players die anyway

one sees pretty quick if a player is new or not, experience players are independend, don't run around, don't mimick for kicks & can find their way to berry farm even without a tour, can set their home marker, can care for the most important things to the settlement or they at least can do something useful like build roads, plant stew, make well, get wood, remove corpses ...

if a player asks what job has to be done, then i know that's an inexperienced player, cause how should a female busy with babies know what's really needed ? female lives in OHOL are quite limited, makes me wonder if that's not already mysogynic

if i have the time then i usually go around & tell the kid some things, mostly for myself because it is so boring to be the mother in this game, same as it is to be the kid, kids can't even play in OHOL, can't they ?

either i am silent as mother, but i am trying to name all my kids though at times it is very difficult, especially if several babies pop out short after another & are among other babies
or i ramble complaining about the game & other players mad
so, if you meet a silent mother who names you or a complaing mother, that might be me lol

DestinyCall wrote:

If high tech doesn't improve on low tech in some way, then advancing up the tech tree becomes meaningless.

The early game has a clear direction.   You must have the ability to make fire in order to make pottery.  You must have access to pottery (or alternatively waterskins which also require fire) to be able to start agriculture.  Agriculture is necessary to establish a fixed camp, since without a renewable food supply, you will quickly exhaust wild food supplies by staying in one spot.   Then the next step to advance is iron tools.    Without iron tools, you can't keep a fire going efficiently and you can't make shallow wells or dig out depleted soil pits.    After iron tools, the next step to advance your village is sheep.  With sheep (and wheat/carrots/berries) you can start to compost fresh soil so that when the nearby soil pits are all used up, you can continue to farm sustainably.

All of these technologies unlock new and "easier" options for your village.  Ways to gain access to new resources or re-open access to depleted resources.   But once your village has sheep and a newcomen pump and an iron mine and a well-stocked bakery ... what do you do next?    What do you need to do to keep the next generation alive and well-fed?   What is the next step on the technology chain ... build a car or airplane?

I feel like the current tech tree make sense up to the point where you've made an established town with sheep, but beyond that, it kind of loses direction.   Villages are stuck in a constant cycle of composting and sheep rearing and pie making.   There's no "next step" on the tech chain.   No goal worth striving towards that will improve quality of life in the village.   It doesn't have to be a major overhaul .  It could be something as simple as adding a way to make more durable tools .... better clothes ... or new ways to make easily depleted resources that require you to invest time and energy in your generation to help save the next generation from scarcity.    We should have new ways to provide heat.   We have kerosene, but still use fires to keep warm.   We should have new ways to make clothes.   We have a loom, but we still wear rabbit hides.    We should have new ways to make processed foods.   We have steel, but we still cook in an adobe kiln and crockpots on coals, instead of using a real stove.

These basic tasks SHOULD get easier as we advance because bigger towns have higher populations and those higher populations require more food and more clothes and greater job diversity to sustain the town.  In a little Eve camp, one person is working to establish farms and another person hunting rabbits and another person is gathering clay or iron or branches.   The population is small, but there are only a limited number of mouths to feed and a few key jobs that need to be done quickly.  In a larger village, the number of people increase, but so do the number of diverse jobs (and the number of new players or slackers/griefers).   One person might be farming wheat and another one is working on carrots and another guy is making stew.  But someone else is making carts and buckets while someone else is building a road or constructing a house or working the smithy or tending sheep.   These extra workers needs to be fed so the village can continue to grow and thrive.    Food production and clothing production should get easier or more efficient as you reach new technology levels to reward people's efforts and allow well-run towns to stabilize at a new set point.  This allows the general population to work on new jobs - like having a dedicated mechanic building cars and airplanes or a radio operator to coordinate with other large towns.

There should be a new goal, something worth working towards and putting effort into achieving when you come into a town that has a good iron supply and a well-run bakery and a healthy sheep population.  In the current game-state, we never really get beyond "sheep town", but there's no reason why that has to be the pinnacle of useful tech advancement.

that's the state i am in with OHOL atm

i've written about that already several times
the game has no deeper meaning, there is no reason to play it actually after one has learned the recipes up to newcomen pump
one can get caught in grinding, that's how i play still now & then but it's actually pretty senseless
even the family trees is just a crutch, not really a reason since everybody is random & that's a difference to RL, most of the time we don't feel connected to our kin, the frequent murder within the family is also an additional damper to feeling connected

to add meaning to the game - i suggest art
only art gives meaning to life aside of religion but since we know our god is real, so is religion pretty obsolete unless Jason includes options to communicate with him via in game prayers

art related we have in game only a tiny option to do some literature but where is music, painting, sculpture ?

also where is trade ?

& btw
life in towns is not easier
in towns the high murder rate evens out the easiness of life

& above all, the game needs some smooth working basics, so the towns stop being junk yards, the sheep pens stop being made from strange objects, milkweed gets finally replaced with some more usual kind of rope material
there are many things this game needs, i am not sure temperature overhaul was really the top priority but our god Jason is relentless

Thank you for working on the temperature system and asking for feedback. Here is what I would love to see.

1. Clothing always being good outside. Even if it isn’t in the proper biome, at least make it better than standing naked.

2. Floors and walls always being good no matter the biome, moving the temperature closer to normal the better the materials.

3. Jungle and desert are too good. Please nerf them by making them hotter so they are not as close to perfect temp.

4. Temperature is too important. The game can swing from too hard to too easy just based on the biome you are in. If biomes were nearly equally bad then this might not be as critical.

second that !!!

gnahc wrote:

From my experience most of the time people want clothing because its aesthetically pleasing to them - not for any need for heat.  Easy fix for that is provide some sort of relatively cheap clothing that people can easily make that does nothing except appearance (same as most sorts of real life clothing (excluding coats) - people don't wear them to stay warm or dry they wear them because its the social norm).  Personally if it was just balance changes to clothing, Id say balance them to always push the player towards the middle of the heat scale even more.  Micromanaging stuff constantly may be fun for some people but personally its not for me (and besides if your hot in a desert irl you don't usually strip nude haha). The buildup to get good effective clothing should be the complex and click intensive part like how the rest of the game is balanced.  Perhaps some clothing could increase heat/insulation still (aka coats and hats for winter biomes) but pants and shirts? That's nudist colony talk.

if some old clothed guy drops dead middle in a town, all his stuff is gone in SECONDS, cause everybody wants some clothing, even if they live in a desert, even if it means death from overheating lol

also
Fortnite is popular (also) because they have cosmetic clothing, that should tell something wink

@Jk Howling

the only person who can have something against stacks is Jason, cause he has to make them
otherwise
why not have them ?
nobody is forcing you to stack things, but i am pretty sure, if things were as a rule stackable, the towns would start to flourish
that junk yard every town is now just invites not to care for anything, cause why care if everything is a decaying dump ?

Tbh I'd be absolutely ecstatic if he made seeds storable in bowls, similar to gooseberries or beans. I'd prefer this a lot more than having them stackable on the ground- even better if we can simply use the bowl on an empty plot of soil to plant, like with squash seeds.

Then having mutton, carrot, and rabbit stacks would basically finish off everything that really needs the ability to stack. There's not a whole lot more that's gathered in large enough quantities that warrants it.

sharp stones
tree stumps
milkweed threads
needles
clay
soil
tools
wool
...

don't tell me mutton, carrots & rabbits are the end of stackability, those are only the most annoying unstackable things because the most basic & needed to be produced everywhere in heaps

they are not the end, they are the most pressing beginning

& if containers are used they have always to be emptiable as well, otherwise it's just another option to grief

wasnt there when it happend but I did help in making the "prison".

roleplaying is the desparate tryout to fill up where actual gameplay is absent or plain boring

#397 Re: Main Forum » To report an extremely terrible griefer on the biggest server » 2019-02-02 15:39:10

if you are as stupid as to participate in an OHOL roleplay then you don't deserve anything else than a griefer who does murder you

you can be killed in this game, so make sure you stay away as far as possible from dangers & that surely includes going into a closed house named "prison", lol

& btw, keys qualify meantime as a valid object to grief with, so stay away if you're not a griefer

#398 Re: Main Forum » ok, i have enough now - general update suggestion » 2019-02-02 10:20:22

the basics in the game as of now just don't function
though it may look like it's functioning if you just skip all the basic problems constantly present

what are the basic problems
i'll mention just the easier few, which i moaned about now for months !

1. SHEEP PENS are too elaborate to make if one wants to make them with the fence kits
thus most sheep pens are made with tower bases & oven bases, which are easily griefable & very prone to destruction, they are fillers until a propper thing is enabled & they make this game look just shabby
& even if one manages to make fences with the fence kits, at the moment where a sheep pen is needed you probably just don't have enough tools & time to make it

solution to this problem would be a WATTLE FENCE

2. CARROTS not stackable
carrots are THE basic for compost, so we have to use carrots
even the "solution" of putting carrots in baskets is only alleviating the problem, a basket needs one space & is not stackable itself, one basket contains 3 carrots, so a basket alleviates the problem by a third
if baskets would be a true solution, then ingots & iron would be also put into baskets & not into stacks, wouldn't they ?

this game clearly favours the higher tech tree at the expense of the neglected basics - like carrots

3. SEEDS, MUTTON, RABBITS ... all non-stackable but overly present in every settlement cluttering the surface so that at times one even dies because there is just no space to put something down

& it's not like those were the only problems this game has
but those are the stepping stones for any true progress,
if those solutions are not there is any progress just gimmicks

so
to put into the game kerosine pump, cars, telegraph, radio & plane in the face of the REALITY of the game, as it is now spawn after spawn doesn't make the game enjoyable
it just catters to those players who come to play through the last update & are gone afterwards
it thins out the community, the players' base
the community goes to shit because Jason doesn't care for the basic functions of the game as it has to be played io to even survive properly as in a multiplayer

update players don't care for the functionaility of the society or their family
they only care to get all ressources together to make the last update's gadget
& after they've done it once they are gone, until the next update

but what is with the game itself ?
is the game a game of tech tree updates ?

to make it short

Jason,
please add with every update one new stackable object !

longer version
there are numerous items which are not stackable
the most annoying since ever are carrots & seeds but meat is following closely by now
since food is THE basic in any survival game & OHOL is leaning heavily towards a survival game,
so every food ingredient, especially the very basics which are not stackable is just pain in the butt

like eg yesterday
i've spend the last 20 minutes of my life to cook & rearrange a field of mutton
one mutton per m² because - mutton is not stackable !
same goes for skinned & fured rabbits but they are not as pressing because how many players do actually bother to hunt rabbits ?
more annoying than mutton are only carrots & carrot seeds, actually oc every seed, except beens, which can be at least gathered into one bowl, but carrots & carrot seeds - gosh!
in every town
either nobody even thinks to farm carrots, then they die, because no compost
or they water all carrots at once & let all seed, so in best case they have a field of carrot seeds, in worst case all seeds despawn, so complete waste
or they try to manage & soon the whole area is littered with single carrots & single carrot seeds among all the other single clutter lying around

in Jason's name !
PLZ
let AT LEAST carrots & carrot seeds be stackable yikes
