Ahh so you're expected to get all the tech done with 11 spare steel without anyone "misplacing it"

Later today is going to be an absolute shit show.

It's going to be a mess of an update for the sake of muh scarcity.

This is another one of those hamfisted updates trying to force people to do certain things without actually considering other aspects of the game. Friendly reminder you can waste 6+ steel at one time if you're going to troll via this update due to https://onetech.info/2376-Diesel-Piston-Head

As of currently the math lines up to each town having 28 spare steel to do the entire oil grind (all the extra pipes based off the rng), to make replacement tools if you lose any, and for tanks you'll need for water/kerosene. If you remove the steel for an extra diesel engine (which you're expected to make for diesel mining L O FUCKING L) you've cut yourself down to 11 total iron to do the oil rig rng grind.

The good new is you can harvest two pieces freely from each vein you run to. Have fun doing this as it'll be absolutely required to play the game in tomorrows patch.

So wanting to play the game, having issues and asking for help = being annoying

Very nice fug...

Being an incredibly shitty human being and a pest to the community doesn't exactly earn you a lot of friends hence why literally one person besides Jason offered her help. Post is banned on multiple accounts in the discord for a reason hence why she has to ask on the forums lel.

Ask anyone who has done it before, it's not enjoyable in the least. I stopped doing oil at all after tool slots were introduced because you would basically be left with a useless skill set after the diesel engine is done + the oil part.

Tongs, kiln, regular hammer, newcomen hammer, roller, bore, lathe. Seven slots gone instantly to do a single engine

or

Tongs, kiln, hammer, file, roller. Five slot to do the oil grind (at the time).

Obviously tool slots have gotten a bit better since then but whenever you get bad rng it's a damn nightmare. 20+ pipes to strike oil feels so incredibly bad even if its rare.

The trick with resources is, if you teach others how to bring oil and they would do it, game would become easier. When it become easier, dev would somehow make it harder again. In your best interest is not to try too hard, because it's Sishypean work.

1% of accounts have ever made oil in this game.

You cannot teach something to someone if they're:

A). Unwilling to learn.
B). Wrong color.
C). You lack the resources.
D). The content is dreadful.

You need to be ginger, you need a student, you need the stuff prepped or able to be prepped, and you've got to want to do it in the first place. It's literally the same people over and over doing all the oil on the server which basically is the only reason people can even play in the late game. You aren't making the game harder on anyone except the people still willing to do it at this point. It's not more engaging, it's not more fun, it's just a virtual chore you're doing to benefit everyone on the server. These people are the lifeblood of the game and eventually it's going to burn them out and when that happens everyone will be stuck in mid game towns having no idea how to progress.

Yes, but you need three veins to crack open a single vein (unless you don't want to farm or have an axe.)

Great job on the curse system jason!

Be a nice player for half a year im sure then you will not be sent to dt anymore

I mean this is basically it. The guy who made the thread was one of the most cursed players of all time QQ'ing about things finally being unfair for him which honestly means the curse system is actually finally working.

Curse total hasn't been permanent for quite a while. The curses fall off after a month, you've got to remember you didn't likely earn all your curses in a single day so it takes awhile for your account to become clean.

The point is if you're pissing off people constantly you should be punished (DT). If you're bored like the rest of us just play a different game. There's plenty of better things to be doing than annoying people for your own amusement.

#413 Re: Main Forum » are curses bugged? » 2020-03-22 22:33:09

fug

It's (T^2) + 100t

T = total amount of players who have you cursed
t = total amount of players who have you cursed online.

If you have a high amount of people cursing you (which you definitely did at least one point) you very easily can be blocked out of all the towns on the server.

#414 Re: Main Forum » are curses bugged? » 2020-03-22 22:08:56

The curse log hasn't worked properly since the original changes. It doesnt even log all the curses that players give you so you likely just have a bunch of undocumented curses.

Less towns that are closer placed together means curses are much stronger due to the current curse formula.

Hah, that was a last minute idea. I was just thinking how it sucks if an animal ever gets out of its pen you have to kill it so I figured it might be a good QoL update to be able to rope the domestic sheep + pigs.

Overall great update and the list is getting smaller and smaller each week. Good work Jason!

Aurora stay away from spoon or he's going to start reeing all over the thread.

Combat got gutted because the war sword was incredibly overpowered and needed gutting but instead he added the abomination that is now our new system.

Language got added because people were all living together in clusters because we had no reason not to share (still the case about the sharing part.)

I'd say people don't talk as much anymore because we're constantly stuck in a loop of either getting rubber, getting oil, or redoing the oil grind. Literally 1% of accounts have ever drilled or done the oil grind which means the same small group of people are making sure to keep towns alive.

There's a real fine balance between things being "REEE ROLEPLAYERS EATING BERRIES" and the game being too "easy" which is hard to keep in tune.

First: There would not be 4 Eves due to the code that kicks in to spit out Eves whenever the baby population is too high.

Second: While I dislike the idea of discouraging moms to pick up babies its a setting that can be adjusted when needed. This means it can go up to 20, it could go down to 0 and maybe if we're lucky it could go negative. I mean there's just a cute/funny/weird thought behind the baby feeding its mom.

Third: Clearly new players just aren't getting enough of the tough love we got back in the day, so obviously we need to abandon more babies on server reset unless you walk into a town instead of a fresh area. On a serious note though, I do think when stuff like this gets changed or anything related to Eve it should be tested on a clean slate instead of a map full of towns. It's easy to say a change is minuscule when people spawn in and completely skip early game.

Language learning currently works slowly across generations, as babies in subsequent generations learn more than their parents learned as babies.  Well, up to age 6, actually.

There are also, of course, white folks, alcohol, and writing to aide in communication.

But now that you will mostly have babies separately, how will language learning work?

It can still happen, but it will have to be a bit more intentional than before.  If you stand at the edge of your homeland (and homelands are close together), then you are 100 tiles away from their town center.  On a road, that's a 16-second walk.

So have your girl baby on the edge, and then walk them to the other town, and either stay there for a bit (if you don't mind not having BB for a while), or just donate your BB there.  If they hear any of the other lang before age 6, they pick up 10% of it (there was a no-busy-work change a while back).  Then they can head home to have the next generation of BB and repeat.

So it will require a trans-generational plan for you and your offspring, but it is possible.  It always required a trans-gen plan before (stay here forever, and don't leave, for 10 generations).  This is a more complex plan that is less likely to happen by accident.

Gonna have to agree with literally everyone here when I say language should be reworked because of the amount of hurdles you've got to jump through now. Before, it made sense that you slowly picked up language considering you were spending many years in contact with a different lineage but now? Now you can't even stand close to them without essentially growing a penis.

You now need to have two families build nurseries at the edge of their borders which is far away from any farms or food, but not only this it means you need to make long roads connecting these huts to both main towns so that the kids can walk back to where the action is. Also remember if these buildings are too close you might just make yourself infertile which defeats the purpose of trying to teach future generations how to talk to each other.

All righty… Question. How does white ones fit in homesick update? They will get homesick too? They need to find others and there's no way we can find them (to biome specs we would have way stones). And why would someone wanted to give them oil or rubber, when they don't have anything in return?

White people are just trash to be fed to the wolves. You 100% require charity or your town can't function and you now can't leech off someone else who can work.

Basically just good to /die as a white person since you're basically disabled in a world where everyone else can do something useful.

Technically fishing relies on water even for arctic char because you need to domesticate rose bushes for hooks, but that's minor.

Shrimping is actually pretty expensive water-wise in comparison since the net requires 2 wool to fix and it tears very often.

You can't fish sustainably without relying on having lots of wool or lots of worms, which are a non-renewable resource only in wild soil deposits.

Fixing one shrimp net cost 12 berries + 2 carrots.

Wild berries are almost always available to pick if you aren't lazy. You can basically freely fix nets by picking berries and digging up wild carrots (not completely sustainable but mostly.) At the very worst you have to grow carrots (if you're using domestic berries I weep for you) meaning one plot of soil + one water = 2.5 net repairs.

Basically don't be a lazy twat when it comes to things and everything works out well. Be lazy and you deserve all the extra management you need to do just to do something simple.
