a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I have no idea what happens when you ESC% out of the game. Do you become a pone pile, or just disappear?
I've seen several people just disappear into thin air, and I wasn't sure if that was a glitch or them logging out/lost connection.
I've been with other people who saw it at the same time as me so I assumed it wasn't a glitch.
Does gear you are wearing/holding still get deleted when you die on a farm plot?
Die on berry bushes?
When you logout via ESC% ?
When you die because of lost connection?
Any other ways?
I am 100% in favor of traits.
I'd love it even more if they were heritable through basic Mendelian genetics.

Oh. That's not good. So every town is doomed to die eventually due to lack of water then.... unless there's some way to generate water?
Multiple Eves/Adams sounds awesome!
If you close your laptop the game will be suspended, and when you open it again the time will be updated and calculated to when you started the game. Your age doesn't get updated until then, so it will calculate beyond the normal age limit if you leave it that long.
Do wells still refill on their own?
Binary v118 / data v117 is crashing on the tutorial for me.
It loads, and I can't move. Tutorial box says 1. Game crashes. "OneLife.exe has stopped working"
Since I can't do the initial tutorial I can't play the game.
Regular OHOL works fine.
EDIT: Reinstalled the client, played through the tutorial, installed the Zoom Mod, and now it is working again.

It WOULD be gamey as shit, but random traits would be kinda cool?
Some people faster etc. some people infertile etc.
Absolutely! Mutations are awesome! I love games with proper Mendelian genetics. (Sims 2 style, not the garbage Sims 4 has.)
Would be kinda interesting if albinism had a side-effect while in the desert, since they tend to have a bit more of a sensitivity to strong sunlight. Maybe they walk slower, or their hunger goes down faster [only when on desert tile / their temperature gauge is hot?]
Albinos are functionally blind. Also, nystagmus.
EDIT: That's why pictures of albino people generally have derpy eyes.
Sounds like the game Rogue Legacy. ![]()
Raising a baby should be a huge sacrifice. That is what creates a bond between mother and child.
This is backwards. I make huge sacrifices for my kids *because* I love them.
I currently think the baby-care part of the game is too boring. All you do is hold them for three minutes. I'll be thinking about ways to make it more interesting in the future.
Yes, why/how do people love their kids?
Some basic Mendelian genetics would really really help. (eyes, mouth, hair, skin, etc.)
This would require dads, which has been highly requested.
Also some sort of audible communication beyond baby crying, baby cooing?
And basic audible keyboard emotions for older people: happy (ya!), sad (nooo), angry (a growl), scared (a yelp), neutral (a grunt)...
Parents spend a lot of time making funny noises at their babies.
Make babies act more like babies. Crawling for the first year/minute of their life. (helps prevent baby suicide)
Make babies spawn into their mother's arms. Forcing her to drop whatever she's holding (birth isn't easy).
That would help with babies being auto abandoned while an Eve is running, or if she's in a busy town and can't tell she even had a baby with all the kids around.
A baby bottle. Moms could fill a bottle (at the cost of a hunger pip) by picking up an empty bottle and clicking herself.
More clothes customization, more dyes, symbols (tribes!), because parents love giving their kids special things.
I'd be happy to test a beta android version.
This is a game about survival. We are working to build societies best we can. If being killed makes you that mad perhaps you dont understand what this game is. It's not farmville, it's not dont starve, it's not the sims, and it's not stardew valley.
It's One Hour One Life. A multiplayer game full of good people, and bad people. Build up society or help destroy it. You can't control everything and everyone. You can do everything right, give your child the clothes off your back, teach them the rules of society, and they grow up and murder someone. You tried, that's life.
Applause.
If the whole town gets murdered while I'm away, I hope they learned something. I'm pretty good at avoiding getting murdered at this point. I had a round where I was a son, the last child born to the last female in a large town with about six guys left and my mom. We laughed, built a bow, and took turns having her kill us all. Profound last speeches and love all around. Sometimes death is fun and meaningful without anyone getting angry at all.
Is this a political comment?
Bacon is coming.... ![]()
This is certainly the kind of custom mod that deserves to be added to the official game!
if you are gonna embrace baby suicides give us a suicide button please!
There is one: ESC then %
I think, that embracing baby suicide should still come with things that indirectly discourage it. For example, in your first year as a baby, you can only crawl and can't escape easily (perhaps you can't escape from your mom's arms either?). This gives the person a real chance to be taken care of by their family and to explore the village and situation they're in. Then, they could make the decision to suicide. I think extinguishing people's prejudice about their situation is extremely helpful in this.
That's a really good idea!
Agreed. Rope based arrows should be removed. That thing isn't going to fly.
Anshin wrote:Huge thriving town, go off and get a cartload of seal skins.... get back and the whole town is murdered. Great.
How one guy killed everybody else?
I don't know, I was out clubbing seals.
Huge thriving town, go off and get a cartload of seal skins.... get back and the whole town is murdered. Great.
I like being an Eve, but it's super heartbreaking when your grandkids turn out to be murderers. So much effort wiped out by idiots.
At first I was going to say " Wouldn't bigger biomes prevent trade?" but then I realized that trade is something that should come with higher tech. Perhaps horses, but definitely a reason for PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES!
Bigger biomes are the key to future tech ![]()
Having players too dependent on the behavior of others is the problem already. For whatever personal reason babies suicide. If we trap them into playing a game they don't want to they'll grow up into trouble makers. Griefer generator is not a "good mom".
Also, what about men?
The simple fair solution is to award people who make it to 55 exemption to the lineage ban.
jasonrohrer wrote:But not furs.... they're not wearing insulating clothing, like giant oven mitts. They are protecting themselves from the sun with flowing, breathable clothing.
That could be alright too, then again no one has the time/inventory space to have
more than one outfit handy for when they go to the next biome over. The point I was trying to make is that clothes are gear, they are a good deal of effort
to make and we have to keep making them. They should be helping us not hurting us
even if it isn't pure realism. We can ALL imagine what would happen in game if you took off your sealskin coat to
work the part of the farm on the desert tiles...
This is all good! Along with biome specific farming it gives people a reason to stay in the biome they are born into.
