I mean it's kind of fruitless to go out and start a town from scratch because either:
A.) You need two families so you don't get stuck on the deep well level tech which ends after a few hours.
or
B.) You need to set everything up over multiple lives before moving something like a ginger family in to do the oil part.
It's nice having lasting towns but it's also nice to be able to set up places on greener pastures. It's not viable to make new towns in the current game without basically grabbing a black + tan female and working together on a new place or you're stuck basically making your own town and ushering people in later.
Relatable. I afk in a hut in the woods some lives because if I'm basically watching YouTube or something I might as well farm points.
I also do the same when I get the wrong skin tone as it's either take potentially a few hours worth of negative points or just not play.
Obviously what they're doing is worse since they're full blown afk making people have to feed them constantly.
Also, I don't 100% believe you that the main problem is multi-racial towns. I think you're probably just annoyed that you can't get oil solo. It's good that you can't just get oil solo, because as an expert player, you're just going through the motions whenever oil is needed. There's no challenge or uncertainty there.... it's just routine.
Bless their little hearts for doing in the oil grind. I cannot stand doing oil and I couldn't stand doing it even when you could do it solo.
The part I hate is having to basically /die into a lineage so I can have some fun. Moms don't want babies killing themselves and I don't want to be annoying players just so I can go do some fun stuff.
Making a snow village, a secret fishing spot, raising kids and teaching them to be productive in the arctic is cool (no pun intended.) This is completely ginger locked and black or tan people don't have something fun like this to do because their biomes don't have good reasons to sit in them.
Expressing yourself through various dyed clothing requires a combination of races meaning unless you're a village of two (appropriate) races you can't do this. If you're black you get to make the old colors but red and blue just don't hit that itch. Green booties, black sweaters, yellow hats, these are things that look great but either require tan people (yellow + green) or gingers (black.)
Maybe you just like cooking instead of all these fancy things. You're locked out of pumpkin pies, mangoes, tomatoes, salsa, ketchup, and bananas if you aren't tan. No yummy cactus fruit if you aren't black, and my god you can't even make sauerkraut if you aren't ginger! As someone who made hundreds if not thousands of crocks of sauerkraut those things used to be in any village I visited hell, you even seen them in villages on stream during last years one year party.
If you're the type of player who cares more about tech than fun little things you're still quite shit out of luck. If you're white or ginger you have no reason to make a village because without the other two races you reach dry well and can't move any further. No glass without blacks, no usable transport without them either. No tans means no rubber and that means you can't do wine or anything tech related at all.
The problem isn't that you removed a solo players ability to do a needed tech grind but you removed a bunch of fun gameplay options without putting something to fill the gap.
Racial specialization should be about improving someone's ability to do something instead of being a lock no one can break.
Gingers should be good at getting oil because they have natural hot springs they can (only) use to fire the oil rig which makes doing oil easier for them. Give them breedable worms so they fish better, woolier sheep so they can be better tailors or shrimp catchers. If you want to be fancy let them make premium ice creams.
Blacks get extra horse types and horse breeding. Put normal ass horses elsewhere and give them faster or strong, or just aesthetically pleasing horses. Make their alum longer lasting, let their paints be better, make their trees free to cut so they can even specialize as hot weather lumberjacks.
Tans should have even more food recipes to make them unique. Cakes, banana nut bread, different fruit trees, more fruit trees! Definitely give them a way to kill mosquitoes as keeping them around in a livable area is asking for trouble. Maybe give them a way to make cooling clothing such as palm leaf skirts, coconut bras, or even fancy fruit hats. There's endless fun ideas to throw out for each and every race.
Cutting out the fun is the problem of the racial specialization update not just nerfing how fast players can climb the tech tree.
I mean the meta is what it is because there's absolutely no reason you should care about your lineage besides points (you can just try to avoid this via lowering your fertility or let the dice roll since 30-40 is very easy to maintain and has very little difference in slot.)
If I am a brown woman and a black village is nearby my best choice is to just move in with the black people. I have no reason to go home after finding the people who basically help progress the game forward to a more stable situation.
If I am ginger or white I have absolutely NO REASON to stay in a mono race village because we cannot even climb the tech tree. Staying a mono village as these races is silly unless it's the only bell town on the server because if you ring the bell smart players will leave and come to the bell. The biggest flaw is though when the server gets too built up people end up just playing around in places they like so even then you're moreso forced to move to their towns instead.
I wouldn't even say getting two families together is really a challenge because all it takes is one smart player to go transplant a lineage branch into another town and boom. Suddenly you've skipped the "hard" part of the challenge.
Since again there's no family loyalty you're always better off forming multiracial towns. I'd go so far as to say it's probably better to split off and pray the original line dies out in old town because they're leaching some of the people for the much more viable town. The variety of things you can do in game killed by racial specialization honestly isn't worth it.
Horses, dyeing clothes, fishing, building, tattoos, cactus fruit, bananas, pumpkin pies, sugar cane pens, yum shrines with mango trees, seal hunting, rubber making, glass making and other things locked behind race absolutely killed some fun aspects of the game that you can only do if you were born the right color. So what great thing did we get for specialization?
Annoying griefing methods like tossing stuff in biomes purposely either through stepping on snakes or just dying in the biome. We got annoying situations where you have to walk all around a biome because otherwise you drop what you gathered. We got bugs that had to be fixed, and of course traveling in game got a whole lot worse overall due to only one race having horses.
TL:DR; specialization is bad because no need for family loyalty. It makes more sense for every place to be a hippy commune instead of self segregation.
I mean you have two different people with multiple bans on the forums/discord posting. So yeah, I wouldn't expect anything less.
JORD, DAD, JOOOORD WHERE ARE YOU. WE GOT US A STINKY STINKER UP IN THIS THREAD.

Mods here hardly ever ban anyone unless there's some serious issues. You sure you're talking about this forum lmao?

Do you live in NA or in some wacky world?
Same wacky world as you obviously.

This is why I put the threshold at 30 instead of something tiny like 10. 30 lined up pretty well considering this was around the average amount of curses someone with 800 hours played had last time he did the time played vs amount of curses on an account.
If we're at the point over half the normal players online are targeting one person to ban each hour the game is beyond redemption anyways. The main site says you have a lifetime server account it doesn't say to what server you're getting access to. Dump the trolls off on a low pop server until their threshold drops below 30 or some other reasonable number. Boom, suddenly the children have to kick over their own sand castles instead of shitting on a bunch of new players. But hey man, the 20 people one person kills < the enjoyment of one troll.
If you think leaving serial griefers running around is the answer you're misconducted from reality. Not banning people for extremely toxic behavior is complete and utter nonsense.
Unless you're specifically gathering a large group for to basically randomly curse someone into a soft ban I can't see it happening. You would basically need people to have a bunch of accounts and then them scouting the same guy over and over and that's a lot of hoops for very little payout.
You're talking about people whose whole game play loop is:
Walking somewhere
Use the posse mechanic to abuse the 1v2 clause
Disappoint their parents
Die and repeat.
I couldn't imagine they could organize anything serious considering you seen their other thread LOL.
I'm not saying your idea is dumb, I'm just trying to tell you that even if you did implement the tool slot thing due to current mechanics the trolls could still grief and you'd only punish potentially good guys.
The bless idea is very clearly something Jason is against and something he worried people would use the current curse system for (basically using the black text to find each other easily.)
First off, why would you want to play as a retarded or handicapped person in game besides fluff? If you want your stuff to be switched up just eat a shroom before moving onto the next life. ]
War was and is completely dumb from a players standpoint because you have zero family loyalty. If you were stuck in one family from its start to its eventual extinction then sure, you on some basic level have a reason to kill others or at least trade because your cycle of suffering will continue until the family is wiped. On the flip side, you also encourage killing your own lineage if you hate being a certain race in game which is plain dumb. "Dude I better kill our fertile females, otherwise I'm stuck white!" Griefing your potential lives is shortsighted on your part completely which is why war is dumb and that's not even going about how terrible swords were.
I've seen too many shitty twins to not see them in a nerfed state. Blame the bad eggs in the community for the stigma around them and letting them do anything because this game has to be balanced around people who grief. No sane person would cut all the firemaking trees around a city no matter what, but because of the ease trolls could do it these things had to be nerfed. As long as people are going to grief without any real consequences then ALL updates have to be balanced around them.
Tool slots, biome specialty, and how combat works now are all bad in my opinion. Tools are not grouped correctly and have inconsistencies still to this day leaving a sour note in my mouth. Sure, it can't be perfect on release but if something is going to be a game changer then it should really see reworks or changes until its properly working instead of being left half done. Biome specialty is bad because it just leads to people dumping shit in the wrong biome on purpose. It's frustrating and doesn't bring trade so much as it brings people living in giant hippy communes.
In relation to long lineages almost every single one of the old records before the rift were all done by groups of people. Boots, Sage, whatever, etc. Like the top 3-4 were all people who staged an event to get to the very top which while neat didn't really feel meaningful either. The next longest lines were rift lineages which basically does what happens now where it forces lineages to keep living until someone specifically offs them so none of the long lines have ever really been special imo besides prerift where it was all reliant on trolls or sids not wiping you out.
Gene score is still being worked on because frankly it has issues. You can have the same guy kill himself (if no one curses him) and get double dinged for their shitty behavior. Someone with a terribly low life average killing themselves early also dings you pretty hard even when the game knows the player is trolling or terrible.
...Give us please blessing token so we new who we can trust and follow.
You don't need tool slots to attack people if someone else arms you so the idea of removing their tool slots has zero effect on smart griefers (oxymoron I know.)
In relation to bless tokens you aren't getting good boy points to identify people across lives. Jason is pretty firm on that one.
Then make the system automated if you don't want to jump through hoops to try to ban someone. Hell, you don't even need to make it permanent in the first place if you do it right.
For example, looking back at the old curse log for time played vs amount of total curses you didn't expect players to hit 50 total curses until something like 2k hours played. What if you set it to where if you had something like 30 unique curses in a month you would be soft banned until one of those curses fell off? This would pretty comfortably align with the chart as someone with 800 hours was getting a curse every 26.66 hours and with this new system you could get a curse every 24 hours or so and be fine. The only big issue I can see is someone being dumb enough to do something really bad and earning a bunch of extra curses near the limit which would extend the ban timer which is fine in my opinion.
You could still go to low pop servers and play if you really wanted to and removing people off BS2 via cursing means it's determined by the players voting you off instead of you having to. This removes anyone having to do any sort of manual reviewing of griefing and leaves the shades of grey up to the players.
Players can't use the new curse system to abuse this unless people are randomly following your commands. "That's Dolly King, the notorious griefer!!!111." Clearly if they don't have them cursed before hand they have no idea who that guy is and it falls back onto those framing tactics some people like Aname always tried to pull. Even then, you have to be really unlucky to have people constantly trying to frame you or I guess people have to be really lucky to constantly pick you out of everyone.
I was seeing talk on the discord about people mutually cursing eachother, so they can identify eachother in next lives. It might have backfired.
Whoever did that on the discord is incredibly dumb and deserves a reprimand for being that dumb.
Looking who said it was a new person to the discord who clearly doesn't understand curse mechanics (aka they just blocked someone they could spawn with.)
I know I heard someone say they had bad uncles before, but I haven't run into this issue because I play very late at night when all the trolls are asleep so I'm much less likely to run into asshats.
Jason doesn't want you having a secret clique of good bois. You're allowed to keep tabs on people you curse because they specifically prey off the ability to bounce around anonymously screwing with things. Now, instead if you are managing your curses properly you can be born somewhere and know (if you previously cursed them) who is likely being the shitlord.
This addition works well with the curse system because previously you'd likely curse a troll, they'd die early while you live long and then you'd suffer the fact that your curse blocking radius does nothing when you get born around them. At the very least you get born and see a black text and say "Oh, that's the guy who was killing all the sheep, stab stab stab." and move on instead of suffering the same situation again.
I mean for someone to change their name (hash) someone had to slip you some money at some point. I don't see the issue of repeatedly striking someone down if they're gonna keep sliding you money in an attempt to keep kicking over sand castles.
If it was an issue like discord where the trolls repeatedly make (free) accounts it would be a little different. You see the trolls in the community with three, four, or even five plus accounts for the sole sake of continuing to be a pest (while only getting banned if they were dumb enough to admit who they were.)
So yeah, charging people repeatedly for wanting to be pests = good. Letting people get away with something because they'll just come back anyways = bad.
navi........................... and gold...... wow........
>didn't know gold was a griefer.
Goof ball.
You see black text when you curse someone. When you curse someone they cant be born to you and you cant be born to them HOWEVER, you can be born to other moms around someone you curse which is why you seen older black text people.
MrGold wrote:But why 30 days just seems like too much like 10 is better
I usually play once a week. 7 days would be just about "rest of the day", 10 would at least cover one more but still not be much. But perhaps "30 days or 30 lives" for the more active players.
30 days is fine imo. 10 days was generally too short as someone who plays once a week you only really ever avoided them for the rest of the day vs now where you can finally be rid of them for a big chunk of time.
Also the new curse system + hierarchy system works wonders. Watching two different families basically give a guy 10 curses for shooting someone for being brown was pretty great.
Pretty good update. Only issue I was having was the game telling me I was having births 8.8k away which was kind of freaky. Not sure if because using modded client or game doing something silly.
I mean if you're willy nilly cursing people for small things (being rude or something) you should probably be reconsidering why you're cursing in the first place.
It was nice being able to see which of my kids was being a bad egg (dude was trying to shoot the white people because ???) then being able to pass the information to the rest of the family through the now working hierarchy system. Was a pretty good experience overall.
Really going to need a chance to spawn a messiah baby now. Born with painted on pants and shirt with a little hat instead of a halo.
Jason is everyone's dad which is why we're not allowed to marry in game. Too many Jason genes would spread and we'd all slowly turn into people who had pants and a shirt for skin.
