Fuck that invulnerable dog holding shit. Stab the dog.

If there's only one dog that's a good idea. Multiple guard dogs are very effective.

PSA: If you are attacked by a dog kick/knee it in the face as it lunges, it will be off balance. Present non
weapon hand in defense, when it attacks that arm, use weapon on its head. The ears are sensitive and exposed, they have almost no defenses from above or any mobility while biting something bigger than them (you).

My family had a rottweiler when I was growing up. Now there was an over powered dog. Fur so black it was like a little black hole in your vision. A neck so thick and fur so slick you couldn't hold onto it. It didn't care about pain at all. It would routinely jump from the second story balcony to chase deer for fun. It could run so fast it could cross acres in seconds. Very much the "hell hound." Dogs made for defense aren't going to be kneed into submission. A pack of rottweilers don't care if you have a weapon. Pain makes them attack harder. If you see a pack of guard dogs you better think twice about your behavior around them.

YAHG wrote:

Also there is a concern as to who's dog it is, who it defends and from whom, do they fight each other?

Dogs simply don't like threatening people. If weapons are drawn they will bark. If you murder a human or dog they will track you down and attack you, disarm you. They don't take sides, they hold killers at bay. No fighting. Just waiting for justice.

Realplay means being a hermit leaves you vulnerable.

Killers getting slowed is not realistic.
... but dogs being able to run faster than people is ...

Dogs would very much help realplay:

Dogs barking at hostile people (players with wielded weapons).
Dogs being able to track a murder grave to it's murderer.
Dogs attacking a nearby murderer and disarming them.
Dogs holding a murderer at bay.

Imagine: a griefer is setting up to kill people, but the town has dogs. If a greifer kills (a person or another dog) dogs will attack the killer and disarm him (hold weapon in their mouth)... and hold the killer at bay (growling sound and killer is frozen on the spot) until someone else clicks on the dog to calm it (drop the disarmed weapon on the first click, and stop growling and release the killer on the second click should other people consider the murder justified.) While held at bay players could feed the killer while being interrogated. If they rule against the killer just let them starve while being held at bay.

This works great for groups and hermits.
Hermits having a couple dogs means at least the dogs will bark at the greifer with the weilded weapon hiding behind the tree. If the greifer kills a dog to shut it up, the remaining dog(s) would disarm and hold the killer so the hermit has a chance to interrogate.

Dogs are man's best friend for a reason!

It would be nice to be able to repair broken things. (Horse glue?)

- "Two Pieces of Cut Rabbit Fur" can't be stored in anything
- Game meat is wasted because we can't slaughter it (seal, wolf, bear)
- Penguins can't be hunted
- lamb isn't edible either...

- several plants aren't farmable: onion, burdock, indigo, rose madder, reeds
- saplings should grow into trees (we need different saplings for different trees)

- It would be nice to have all plants be farmable and all animals domesticatable.

Any other things?

EDIT: moved "dogs" to their own thread.

Yes!

How do we make that copy of Scott McCLoud's Understanding Comics as seen in your trailer video? wink
That guitar would be pretty awesome too, especially if we can freeform play it!

#506 Re: Main Forum » Is food too plentiful now? » 2018-06-12 22:24:23

It's good now. Stew isn't portable, so it allows people to actually work in town. I still need a bag of pies to travel and get iron or milkweed or hunt. In a functional town people can finally specialize. It gives people a chance to finally teach their kids/new players, which is nice. Most towns never make it that far, so no worries. Plenty of starvation still happening!

Ugh, I built a sheep pen, then one idiot uses the knife and bow and arrow to murder the whole town instead of hunt mouflon and bring back lamb.

Or, keep the PvP but both victim and murderer die at the same time. If murder has to happen, at least the rest of us don't suffer.

I quote myself, because these are the simplest solutions.

That depends on if Jason will be getting any of that profit.

Well it is E3 weekend and exam time in school. I'd be more worried about the numbers if they don't come back up in July.

The three hour ban shouldn't apply to babies, they shouldn't be punished for being abandoned.

Any other reasonable tweaks to the respawn mechanic?

Is the only way to eat squash in the "Three Sisters Stew"?
Can it be boiled on its own into mashed squash?
Or simply baked?

Better yet, mousewheel variable zoom + edge push!

#520 Re: Main Forum » Dying of starvation a few steps away from food » 2018-06-06 17:47:03

Leftovers are good. Eat them when desperate, or use as farm feed. Makes more sense then feeding a whole bowl of fresh berries and carrot to the lambs!

You shouldn't be making too many carrot-rabbit pies anyway... Most of the time, it's just a waste of a carrot. Since threshed wheat has no value, it's !!MUCH!! better to make a carrot pie and a rabbit pie seperately.

Currently there is no good reason to add more than 1 ingredient to a pie.

That was a generic example. Replace "carrot-rabbit pies" with any food.

#523 Re: Main Forum » mothers who dont give their babies names » 2018-06-06 15:56:28

Last names should automatically transfer to babies.
Eves who don't give themselves a last name automatically get the last name Rohrer after the first baby reaches childhood. (becomes default family name for both)

#524 Re: Main Forum » The mono diet » 2018-06-06 15:49:07

Make crop types dependent on environment. That way Eves have more choice over where to start camp, and you get different foods arising from that choice.

Seal meat and pemmican are great if that's what's available in the arctic ... but you dream of burritos ....

EDIT: It would make different lives actually different, rather than trying to force people to have to do everything in one life.
