Q frequenty worked for me:
- SRY BB NO FOOD
- Q
- OH, WELL [grabs me and runs to forage]
Are you trying to be joirom and prove something here?
I don't know what Joriom tried to prove - I'm not long enough on the forum.
I hold a grudge in both cases.
Sad to hear that. I'm just helping to improve the game.
Maybe changes will get implemented eventually, but not before souring the game for countless people and making this community smaller. Good job.
Things I'm describing are not secret. Griefers abuse them all the time. And I'm sure they share them among themselves. Why other players shoudn't be aware of them, to be able to counter play?
And if some things are so OP that fairly new, unskilled player can wipe out the whole town using them, they need to be fixed ASAP, not shoved under the carpet.

- Mom, I got raped.
- Shut up! Nobody will want to live in our neighbourhood.
- Maybe we should do something to stop the raper?
- No, just shut up! Pretend that nothing happend.

Well, that is how it works in real life :
1. Flee
I may as well not play the game altogheter.
2. Work faster than griefer because he is just playing backward
Doesn't work. Some things griefers can do in a minute or two does take a generation or two to undo. Some cannot be even undone at all. Either I spot griefer fast and kill him or the whole town just perish.
3. Try to get him with bow and the reach of it, hide behind a tree on a spot he will obviously stop, put food or something on your trap tile. Or follow him and stab him when triws to stop to eat. But new cool down will probably kill you.
I need to kill him while he is griefing. Can't wait 15 minutes until he maybe falls into a trap.
4. Trap him in a house you even have on and the lock. But griefers hide hammers and forging tools so you might not be able to create on while he is alive.
Same as above.
Griefing is way harder to counter with weapons since update. Try to be inventive.
I have no ideas, that's why I'm asking.
People that get stab oftenly are the ones that are too lazy to learn how to defend themselves.
How do I learn how to defend myself? I mean running for half an hour is not an interesting option for me.
The lineage ban is to prevent baby suicides abandoning Eves.
That's the intention. Real effect is that the people stop playing until lineage ban wears off. And griefers get multiple accounts to grief the only remaining towns.
Banished to the Eves because of things beyond my control.
I hate that too.
Griefing is just way more faster and dangerous.
I know and I fully agree. But even if I spot griefer, the only counter I have to stop him is to kill him. So I need to be good at killing. Help plz.
I know I gonna be lynched for this topic as well ![]()
The only people proficient using knife/bow to kill other players are griefers. Fight is not trivial and there is no option in game to practice this skill in peaceful/repeated manner. The only way to practice it is to become griefer yourself, which most people feel aversion to and don't do it. So when they have to fight griefer back they fail miserably - like putting knife down instead of hitting with it.
I've seen multiple time scene where griefer stabs somebody and then hides behind mapple tree. Then after people run to "defend" they just come, look around, and see nothing. Then slow down wears off and griefer kills another player, preferably the one with knife and hides again. People follow the victim until he dies, scramble to pick up all the stuff and the lucky one that got knife goes to "avenge". Obviously he can do squat, because griefer is behind tree. After another slow down wears off, they start dancing around. And then defender instead of stabbing, puts down knife. Griefer promptly picks it up and now he has two knifes. Usually that's game over. Rarely third person has a knife. But then it's just rinse, repeat.
So, how to kill people effectively? Is the hint on main screen of the game valid - i.e. you should use RMB to kill, not LMB? Is it the same with bow and knife? What if you misclick and put knife down? Is there any way to kill somebody hiding behind tree? Some time I got stabbed even when I've been constantly running - is it random or am I making some error?
My fellow griefers, please help...
Can we make also tiling impossible for baskeful of soil? There is never good reason to do it. I had to tell that to dozen of players. I've also seen it abused by griefers when recovering from famine.
Fuck you bitch, I could have helped. I wouldn't even have used your up your food, I would have just lived off wild food.
I even said Q but you probably don't know what it means.
Don't be harsh. They are playing the best they can.
Thanks to you I've had nothing but Eve spawns for the last hour, That's the real reason I'm pissed.
The reason for that is that griefers are wiping out towns faster that they can be built.

I suggest introducing practice knife/bows to game, which don't do harm, but just give you information when you hit with it. Should be clearly distiguishable from real knifes/bows.
If the purpose of slow down is for players to get information who killed, then it's not working as intended. Most murderers immediately move behind the tree and cannot be seen/killed until slow down expires.
Should work like with picking up item behind trees - possible on mouseover

I thought you were quitting Sc0rp
I'm almost not playing. Yesterday it was 1 minute game. I got born to griefer. She fed me twice. Then pulled a knife and stabbed somebody else. Then let me die. I got insta-banned from West city for 3 hours for choosing my parents poorly. I wanted to see pein's new pen, but that was not possible. I stopped playing, because with hiigh probability, I'd have the same griefer in next game.
The day before, one longer game. Rescued West city during famine and griefer visit (non-violent one - just messing with food production), became a king for generation, passed down crown and knife well - they lasted at least 10 more gens. Also stopped playing, because - griefer.
What makes me sad is that this thread has more views and replies than some threads get after being up for five days.
Maybe it's important for people.
Im sure ive had you as my son.
That's probably true for everyone on this forum.
If you think about griefing son, then no. I haven't been griefing. That's all second hand knowledge, acquired by being griefed. I know first hand how people feel after something like that, so I just can't do it myself.
#57 there is a new forum thread complaining about griefing
#58 Two shots if you created it.
I disagree, A better place would be the known bugs section rather than a griefers guide on the main forum.
I don't know if they are real bugs or not. That's why I discuss things here. Maybe I'm just not playing it well enough. I've already learned from YAHG how to protect some things better.
Title too controversial? We have worse: "Murder suggestions", "My cannibal daughter.....", "If your a new player, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE FORUMS.".
Wow.
This is a guide to reduce the population of players in the game, and only have the assholes stick around.
So you claim that those strategies are effective and have no known counters? And the only reason towns exist is that there are not enough griefers around? If so, then it's a good place to write suggestions for Jason, what tweaks are needed to rebalance it.
A wise man has spoken. Great ideas Kinrany.
Thanks a lot for info.
Any tile that has not been loaded from database (aka. seen by player, [...]) will be dropped from database next time server reboots [...]
Next time players sees the same tile (tries to access it from database by presence nearby), it will not be found and will be regenerated by the world generation alghorytm.
Tile will be in its pristine state. All items gone. All natural resources/animals generated again.
But it will be the same as original pristine state or different one (I care mainly for terrain types)?
I was working on exactly the same problem in the past for my bot. If you want to use overlapping areas, focus mostly on features that are always there, no matter what: monoliths, ice holes, cacti, etc. Those can not be removed by players (or in case of monolith can only have few variants but always at the same spot - when modified by player) and those can not be created by players. Use those as anchors.
Do they survive partial map wipes?
If you're lucky enouch, you could even use belltowers as "global" anchors. Whenever you hear a belltower, knowing your server you're on just use this http://onehouronelife.com/monuments/ as reference. You could try using two bell towers to triangulate your exact global position OR single bell tower and a bit of "map generation magic" looped over all known bell towers (and comparition with currently seen world data) to use single bell tower to get your "global" coordinates.
Thanks for a hint. Can I hear more that one bell in one life?
P.S. Using biome value should work as well, as its constant no matter what, but making hash of bigger areas to speed up comparisions is not really valid as your "0,0" does not share a common offset.
Rolling hashes will work fine. Generally the same things that speed up finding matches for compression/diffs.
Thanks YAHG! That was really helpfull. I will have more questions about town defence later on. For now just only one: where do you get your knife? You make one, because nobody's at the smith or what?
And considering my first post, could you write if there is something I can do as Eve or 2nd gen to defend? That are the things that happend to me in early camps. Obviously not all in one game. Usually 2-3 things from this list are enough to wipe me. Do I miss some obvious defence there? Like wasting some food around, making a bow, luring in a bear, then shooting people in the back.
INB4: I can run and setup camp elsewhere. But that's the same as quitting and starting another Eve run.
That is about all I got right now. I prefer murdering and Jihad to pure grief as the latter isn't very
confrontational. I only really like to murder and Jihad when the town is one of those decadent super
cities with 30 crocks of soup and endless everything.
Maybe a bit more specific question. Have you failed a this? And if so, how did it happen?
To defeat the enemy you must think like the enemy
