Serious question ... can that be added to ALL doors?
Maybe in far future when we can advance so far like in ohol trailer, there will be automatic doors that will open and close whenever someone tries to walk through them. :P
I may actually start caring about my score after this update if it really won't be that luck based. Infinite skill slots sounds exciting :P Currently I didn't care to have one more or one less slot.
We should tell them all to download a zoom mod, so maybe they will stay with the game for longer ![]()
I'm serious, I didn't see any statistics but I'm pretty sure that mod users play much more and stay for much longer. And that's not because they are hardcore players, but because game is much more enjoyable. This game is fun, people pay for it for some reason. Actually every player who bought this game most likely likes games like this, survivals, and don't buys it only to play a few lives, but buys it to stay with it and enjoy it probably for a long time.
I know Jason that you say this game looks the best when zoomed in max, but if vanilla players could zoom in and out with mouse scroll, they still could play with zoomed in to the max and "enjoy" "the best looking game when zoomed in".
Dodge would say it's a god sight, but in reality it's weird that you can't see end of the room. In reality you wouldn't be able to see through walls, but you would see a sheep pen that is very far away if there were no obstacles between.
2x zoom out size would be enough for vanilla users, It's not too much so they wouldn't see this ugly unloaded thing. 3 levels to zoom with mouse scroll - 1, 1.5x and 2x.
Things like this should be optional and not necessary. It should work more like this: Your family is out of oil but you want them to thrive even longer? Now it's the time to find help in other families.
This could actually even be fun. After reaching highest tech which is oil and engine it wouldn't be over. Oil will end sooner or later, and what then? It could be fun if specific races could craft specific parts that after connecting together would turn into something that could be connected to oil rig and give another couple of uses.
Wow, this could even make trading a real thing. "We both need to upgrade our oil rigs, we give you parts that we made if you give us parts that we need". Yeah, it wouldn't always work, one family could actually have upgraded oil rig or be too little advanced to make needed parts, but that's okay. It should be optional to get to that point and not something that would happen in every family at some point. It would give some wow effect every time people would see this new level of technology, because it would be probably a rare thing, an achievement that people would want to achieve, they would want to try to reach it, well, I would for sure.
Searching for other families could become exciting. Their technology isn't good enough to make parts that we need? Let's help them to advance.
This update doesn't fit to infinite world. Also in rift it would only fit if there were always at least 3 families with different skin tones.
I played a game a couple hours ago, we made to new newcomen pump but had no rubber seals, we were out of water but nobody was even thinking to go to find a jungle family and then a desert family... What would we offer them anyway for their help? Or maybe we should abandon our town and pray that someone will accept us?
If yes then why even starting a town? Maybe it would be better to just search for other families right away after spawing, it could take whole life tho.
Things like this should be optional and not necessary. It should work more like this: Your family is out of oil but you want them to thrive even longer? Now it's the time to find help in other families.
Currently it's bs.
Confirmed, just played a life. No boars in swamps and while getting iron I saw no single wolf, not even mosquitoes in jungles.
Just started a town, can't get sheep.
Having a fully functional town on tundra or desert or jungle would actually be fun. But lower hunger isn't the only factor that would encourage people to make towns there. There are necessarry resources in grasslands, yellow prairies and swamps to start a town. Having goose ponds or other sources of water on desert would be just weird, how would you solve this?
Imagine being part of a trading caravan...
Stop asking for trading pls, it probably will never fit this game, unless roleplay only. Also stop trying to find a way to make trading a thing (I'm saying to everyone, not specifically to you). Over time the game will be more complex as more updates will happen, maybe eventually trading will fit this game, but it's not something that development should focus on.
I never tried it because people were saying it's broken. I think it is broken.
From time to time I get a mom that gives me a tour around the town to show me where is the sheep pen, kitchen and so on. I can write only one letter yet, so I just say nothing and I'm like "haha" :D
Zoom is not answer changing vanilla game is
Zoom is the answer, you know it even if you don't want to admit it.
Maybe we don't have zoom because Jason isn't able to fix lags (slowmo) that people would get with it. It's kinda hard to believe that a developer would want to give people so impaired sigh.
Why is the short vision an issue?
Says a mod user.
I saw people were making many good and funny ohol memes on discord, why nobody posts memes on forum? Please start doing it.
I'm too lazy to make memes, but if I wasn't I would make a meme with a vanilla user that can see only 2 tiles in each direction and asking "where is shovel?" Then mod user seeing whole town with search function answering him "it's right behind you" ![]()
I do exactly the same, maybe not in that order.
I tell brand new players that basics are farming cooking and smithing, they should learn these in first place. I show them a kitchen and tell them to take a pie and eat it whenever hungry, I also show them they can eat stew and milk, it's not so obvious. If I'm in teaching mood then I teach them how to farm and cook (There were only few brand new players that already knew these 2 and wanted to learn smithing). Farming starts with soil so I tell them to make a compost, I tell them what to do, never do it for them. Once they made compost, I ask them to make another by themselves - they usually remember all steps, it's easier to remember steps if they do them instead of showing them. Then I tell them how to use soil, plant some wheat for learning purposes. I tell them that they can plant everything on deep rows, just need seeds and then water. I tell them to note site onetech.info where they can find how to get different seeds and all recipies for everything, note it because they will use it often. Once they learnt farming I show them how to cook, since they already know about wheat and sheep and how to use water, teaching cooking pies takes only few moments. Then I tell them to download a zoom mod after they die, because I feel like this game is a pain without a zoom mod. Specifically awbz mod, because it's easy to find and it's very minimalistic, it's a great start. I use hetuw but I don't tell them about it because this mod could be too overhelming for brand new players. I often hear I'm a great teacher
But I'm rarery in a mood for teaching. When I'm not in a mood for teaching I just tell them about it and tell them that they can find all recipies on onetech.info and they can learn with it by themselves, and tell them to download awbz mod because this game is a pain without a zoom mod.
Almost everyone plays the game without mods. There are statistics to back this up on a thread somewhere, but simply put the majority of people are playing with the vanilla view distance and every single new player is likely using an unmodded client.
Over the past 60 hours, we've seen these lives lived:
13 client_wonlife (0.1%) 544 client_milkweed (5%) 1541 client_hetuw (15%) 1582 client_awbz (15%) 6595 client_official (64%) ------------------------- 10275 TOTAL
3680 modded lives vs 6595 vanilla lives. That's far from "Almost everyone plays the game without mods". It says a lot about how shitty this game is with this joke view size.
I think one of the best improvements to quality of life would be adding zoom to the standard client so everyone could use zoom out of the box without relying on third-party modding. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen, which is a real sadness.
I'm pretty sure it would increase player base drastically. Like a lot.
This game is already developed for veterans/mod users. Poor vanilla users lol.
Edit: Sry, this post is offtopic I guess. But the thing is, if game is developed for mod users it won't succeed.
Maybe instead of thinking about biomes and food, maybe it would be better if some technologies were available only for specific races. Let's say only black people could use newcomen hammer, only gingers could use newcomen roller and so on (I mean not exactly newcomen tools, but maybe new technologies, new content, idk). And it should be optional and not necessity. You want to thrive even longer when oil is over? Then it's best time to start looking for technologies that you are unable to make without help of other families. But to be honest I don't like it either, forcing interaction with other families... Vanilla users can't see shit (like 5x3 tiles view lmao), things like this won't be vanilla users friendly, they won't keep up, they already can't, it will be more depressing for them than actually fun.
People, stop asking for trading, pls... Who would you trade with? With another family? Not really, you would trade with one random person who will probably not care anyway if he/she is a vanilla user. There are many ways to improve the game, trading is not necessarily one of them, not in a game where communication almost doesn't exists.
I wonder how this game would look like if everyone was forced to use vanilla version... Who would want to spend their life on searching for things like tarry spot? You decide to sucrifice and do it for your family? That's very altruistic, nobody will be waiting for your comeback, nobody will be thankful, because nobody will even know about it. I doubt that there is serious communication between vanilla users...
I also wonder how this game would look like if everyone was forced to use modded client. I feel like this game is a pain for vanilla users, no wonder why they quit it so fast :P
Travelling through special biomes isn't painful or frustrating, it is a fun challenge.
I didn't say it's a pain for players. Once you enter a bad biome you get sick emote, once you leave it you get happy emote. That happy emote after leaving bad biome is a bad thing ![]()
And when I said pain I didn't mean our pain, but the character ingame must be in pain while being in bad biome, sick emote shows it.
So I just played a game after a break. I played as a non-specialist in a pretty beginning town. We were building newcomen tower and preparing for newcomen pump, but we had no sulfur and palm oil to make tires for atmospheric cores.
I took a horse and went east and found a dead town, pretty near. There were two atmospheric cores, one in newcomen tower and another standing near, I took both back to my town. I also took many other things, buckets, iron, plates, bowls, newcomen tools.
I don't even think about looking for other families, then trying to ask them for getting sulfur or anything needed, it just doesn't fit this game.
Another thing that I noticed is a smile face after leaving specialist biome. Sick effect is enough, this smile is very weird. I feel like that smile says that we like pain, some kind of masochists "aw that was a nice pain in there :D" haha.
So, looking for dead towns is much better tactic than looking for other families. This is obviously an issue. This whole update is an issue... It could fit in rift but I don't think it fits in infinite world.
I noticed people don't make property fences around towns. Game in current state encourages to live in peace with every other family, I don't really like it, I would prefer if we had to be scared of other families, make wars with them. I don't see a need to interact with other families, I never liked to live together with another family, what's the point with that...
One thing that is great in infinite world is that we can have different life variations instead of living every life in high advanced towns like it was in rift, but everything else sux I think :D Too many resources, too peaceful.
Reset the map pls, the world looks weird after reseeding without wiping the world. I know it will be gone eventually once we move further, but still it's weird and I don't see a need to not reset the world.
Damn, traveling and looking for fams may be boring, especially without a horse. Maybe give a buff for Non-specialists, let them be cartographers, some kind of minimap available for every member of family. There would be no "fog" on that minimap in places where your fam members were (perhaps only past 5 generations, otherwise could be too op, idk). Whatever, probably wouldn't be easy to implement it anyway, and probably too "magic" for this game.
Btw, this kind of limitation is much better than skills/tools thing. Skill/tools thing gives me some kind of psychological block to do things, idk, maybe I'm weird and it's just me
Yet I play ohol close to zero because of that.
A mom can't feed her baby once she gets to 40yo. Then she must drop her baby or it will starve.
I don't know, this may not work, there is too little cooperation, too little chatting. Trading a horse for some iron? There are already too many noobs who won't even know what is going on, doing such things alone may be boring, you won't even be able to talk with someone unrelated you see for the first time. Forcing to live together with other families? I hate this concept. I dislike living with other families, unless it's a rare thing.
I don't even like skill/tools update. Limitations is a bad thing. Games like minecraft or factorio are so good because of total freedom they give.
If (girls < 3) then girl.
Would be enough IMO.
I prefer to play as a man, but it's something rare now. <6 woman thing is weird. Yeah, it solves the problem with dying families due to unluck, but still it's weird.
The search function doesn't work and always tries to show how to make dice regardless.
I have the same issue on my phone, but on my pc it works perfectly fine.
Wait until property fences decay, remove fence gates with mallet, fix corners and it will be nice pen ![]()
Why rabbit pies and not mutton? It's a big difference. Rabbit pies aren't that cool anymore after rabbit update. And also I don't think you can get to 20 yum chain, unless you are naked. When I yummed I always ended with 16-17 yum, even tho I ate all smallest foods.
16 bites of mutton pie is 240 pips, that's enough to survive a whole life for a decently clothed person, isn't it?
That's funny how little cost it is to live a whole life. Making mistake in making engine costs at least one bucket of water... That's entire life for 3 people lol.
Making one rope costs more than feeding one person for a whole life, lmao.
