Murder IS the biggest problem in OHOL. This is why only 38 people is playing now.
If nothing will be done the game itself will be killed by all those knives.
I kind of agree with that. That's why I proposed karma based system to weed out griefers:
https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … p=2#p16279
or actually find usefull roles for them:
https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewt … p=2#p16290
There are a lot of people on this forum that are against this proposal, though. And I'm not surprised. People here are either griefers themselves or people that know how to deal with griefers effectively. So it's a bad place to run a poll.
I think evironment is extremly hostile to new players. Like I had a few days in a row when out of 4 first games I had to deal with griefers in 2-3 (e.g. 2 games directly mass murder, third born to mom fleeing from town with mass murder). And then eternal Eve or abandoned child of Eve. Fortunately it didn't happen to me when I started playing. But somebody getting this "expierience" on one of first days, will stop playing and never come back.
But that's Jason's job to do something about it. As long as it's more fulfilling for greifers to kill you own relatives, than go for a raid, things won't improve.
Town just got griefed by Chris Yahl and his sister, him holding the knife and sister feeding him to make sure he doesn't starve...
That's kind of OP. Maybe it should be nerfed. Or maybe not - defenders can use it as well. I'll start feeding people that go after griefer. Does it help during the fight (so you don't need to put out weapon) or only just after kill?
no wasnt me
jump off its a test
Yeah, sure. Congrats pein for round number of 666 posts! It fits this topic very well.
That would actually make matters worse. Murder is just extreme version of griefing. If you just disable killing completely, you're still vulnerable to myriad ways of griefing, but now have no recourse whatsoever.
What if there was higher level weapons that didn't have a handicap?
Well, before that I would really like to see some mechanism that would achieve following:
- going on raid to plunder other town/village - good,
- killing your own blood relatives (against the will of others there) - bad.
Human beings have been murdered thousands of times as they evolved, and this is a scientifically instinct.
And they've been killed back by others using bare hands. If anything, we need additional nerfs, not bufs. One guy with a knife can't kill 10 people with axes, hatchets, hoes, stones and fists.
People that sponge food should look like this.
+1
That would be cool - if no usefull work, only eating.
If you hadn't noticed, I am not acknowledging you on purpose. I am not about to lend credence to your position by having a discussion about it, as if it's up for debate.
No.
Standard SJW tactics: no discussion, only echo chamber.
I think the ideas you had about luring the bear away somehow is cool, more than one way to deal with problems is fun gameplay.
Some bears IRL are tamed, or at least a little tamed. That could be fun... think WARBEARS
You already can do that. Well, kind of - it's hard to control weapon of mass destruction. In one game when griefers were taking over the town and I was too young to hold a knife, I warned people near farm and lured in a bear. I actually managed to kill one of the griefers this way ![]()
Why you ever bother about censorship. Just kill a guy, he is showing attitude. It is the best way to detect griefing asshole: they show themselves up without asking
+1
Love when they do that. You can deal with them before they start killing.
There should be a way to lure bears back into their caves. Maybe throwing some sort of raw meat in the cave. (Skinned Rabbit/Plucked Goose/Raw Mutton + Bear Cave = Retreating Bear)
You can kill them. You can lure them away just by walking. It's fine. Just don't make eve's camp next to bear's cave - that's just asking for trouble early on.
I planted 5 milkweed stalks to bring mouflon to camp. You wasted 16 milkweed stalks to make lasso in early settlement and complete clothes for you in the desert. You harvested them out of fruiting period. Then u asked me to make arrow.
I prepared 10 straight shafts to make fence, as there was no smith. You changed all of them to stakes.
You say you are new? Well, sorry, I did not know. Of course, you can destroy entire settlement.
I'm almost sure that was griefer is disguise. I also had a guy in game that split 4.5 furs I've prepared for backpack and made loincloth out of one wasting both thread and leaving me with one missing fur. Then proceded to sponge food at high rate to cause famine. Unfortunately I haven't had bow yet (early settlement). Just told other players they have a griefer.
There are some things that are just not 'a joke' and should not be considered acceptable, like... ever.
These things include the Holocaust, rape, and racism or bigotry of any kind (I am sure there are others I am not thinking of right now).
I literally never kill anyone in this game because I don't think that's fun for others. But if you start saying shit like "Seig Heil" and naming your children Hitler, you deserve it 100%, IMO.
Killing people - good. Calling somone N* - bad. Love the logic.
Not that I disagree with - I'm doing the same. But that's because they are assholes and it's likely they are griefers as well. So dispatching them as quickly as possible is a good thing.
I think we, as a community, need to collectively draw the line and not tolerate this shit. It makes the game hostile and nasty when that is not the point. I also highly doubt that that was Jason's intent for the game.
Can we please band together and prevent this from happening?
Already doing that, maybe for slightly different reasons. I think joking about "Holocaust, rape, and racism or bigotry" is totally fine (I love e.g. George Carlin, who was very good comedian and very politically incorrect at the same time). But I hate pure assholeness.
Stupid people and griefers, that's who (every griefier is stupid, but not necessary the other way). Just don't make camps close to caves. No way to defend early on, except luring bear out. But that's usually after it kill haft of the people.
Oh, I see now. Thanks!
It's for digging up the bush. Note: If you stake a bush you aren't going to grow any berries on it until the stakes have been removed.
Onetech doesn't show that you can use shovel on it. Is it incomplete?
https://kazetsukai.github.io/onetech/79 … berry-Bush
So, does it do anything? Or is it just useless leftover after farm updates?
Jason said that kids inherit your home marker only if it's onscreen when they're born.
Actually they inherit ANY home marker that's on screen when they are born. Got this answer from Jason when I reported some kids not inheriting my home maker as a bug:
They only inherit it if it is near them when they are born. They don't inherit yours, actually, but any home marker that is on their screen when they are born.
Jason said that kids inherit your home marker only if it's onscreen when they're born.
Oh, that's bad. Any specific reason for that? I have no way to control where they are born...
No, everyone can use some marker, you used to be able to hit a home marker with a stone to make it yours but now you have to remake it, you cannot grief people by destroying their home markers. they only get destroyed if that person makes a new one or they destroy the old one.
Maybe it's bugged there? If one of your kids remakes it, you still have it, but children born later don't inherit it?
How does inheriting home maker work? Even if I make it before child is born, some kids tell me they don't see it. What are requirements for it to work?
I should be able to cook them into pies and laugh as everyone freaks out <3

I would love to have it
Maybe not permanently, but for a week or two. We would have hippie stoner towns. People trying to craft a cart for the whole life, while getting constantly high from pie in backpack... LOL
I totally support pein. Some good use for those graves. Ancestors must be happy they can help grandkids after they passed out. At least if that's my grave there, I'm glad I could help.
I think this probably has something to do with the messaging of the timing. Maybe the chimes need to start way sooner?
The other thing is that, when you're cold, your 3 warning bars go really quick, whereas when you're warm, they might take an entire minute to go. A minute of hunger chimes might be too many, but 15 seconds of hunger chimes is probably too few. Maybe it needs to be based on an estimate of time left instead of a number of bars left?
I think that the best feedback would be varying time between chimes, depending on how fast you get hungry.
As Eve I usually don't have problem with keeping my temp and eating when necessary (even if food is hard to find). What I really hate is to die in towns. I'm usually fully clothed there and don't see ground tiles at all (due to floors). I start hearing chimes, so I try to put the thing I'm holding down, and when I put in down, I'm suddenly lying dead with two full pies ready to use in backpack.
WTF just happend???
It turns out that I was standing fully clothed on desert tile, which I didn't see (floors). And chimes are completely misleading in this situation. I'm few seconds from the death, but they play the same as if I had full minute. And I know I'm clothed, so I'm completely unprepared that I need to react ultra fast. Didn't grab food on first chime? Dead.
So I think that number of chimes should be always identical. But time between them should vary, that you know how urgent situation is.
Yeah, just like people abuse the reserve tank in their cars, they would learn that there's a grace period and abuse it.
Well, I have friggin berry rabbit pie in backpack. I can't eat that frequently, especially when getting a bit older. I need to wait till or close to chimes.
P.S. While we're at it. Starving chimes not playing at all when you're ~57 are really insidious. You want to say goodbye to your kids and say how much you love them. You eat berry, go to them, and... you drop dead without a word. Maybe they should still play, only slightly quieter?
For some reason the v106 changes didn't show up in Discord live-dev-changes so I didn't know to update onetech. Anyway, it's updated now. You can see v106 changes here: https://kazetsukai.github.io/onetech/versions
Thank you! The best way to learn about changes.
