Btw, there should be also a button to enable/disable chatting in box, so we could still talk with near people without sending messages in chat box whenever we need/want to.

#677 Re: Main Forum » How about an actual in-game chat box? » 2019-10-23 20:50:28

I would ask people to help me making an engine, or help in making stone walls. I would tell them that I saved a rope to upgrade the well and ask them to not touch it. I would make newcomen pump from nearest natural spring and I would tell people about that anyone who wants to learn about wells can join me. I would tell them that eating berries is inefficient. I would answer to very frequent question that new people ask "how can I help?", it's not so obvious in this game, mostly for vanilla users. Right now they ask about it one person, who actually may not know it either. Teaching, learning and cooperation would improve drastically.
How do you find it useless?

How about an actual in-game chat box? I know this game tries to imitate reality but it's just a game, good quality gameplay is more important I think.
We could see all family members' messages in the chat box, no matter how far they are. We could scroll through chat box, but messages would dissapear after 3 minutes. We could also see in chat box people's age (for example. "Anna Troller (4): hi").

I feel like interaction system is broken in current state. No pros waste their time to talk with people, there is no time for this. No chance to talk about tactics to survive, everyone plays on its own. In real life family would meet up everyday, there would be plenty of time to discuss things.

This would be a big change to the game. For me it would be so much more satisfying to play this game if we could actually interact with family members on bigger scale.

What do you think about this, people?

I could pay someone some pies or water or iron if he worked for me for 5 minutes or smth. I could hire someone to bring lots of kindling or firewood or smith some iron to steel.
The thing is there will be no trading in this game, probably ever.

#681 Re: Main Forum » hetuw mode » 2019-10-20 11:20:07

Could you add that I could search only for a specific item without all the other items containing the phrase I entered?
I mean if I search for a "rope" there are other objects containing "rope" such as property fence, so all pens and fences start bouncing which is a little annoying. There are other cases too.
I mean, don't remove searching other items containing entered phrase, just add that you could also search for only specific object.
Myabe a dot at the end of text, or ctrl+j to search only for specific object?

#682 Re: Main Forum » Young people cant read maps » 2019-10-20 11:02:21

With notes on a paper it always worked that you could read them entirely no matter how many letters it had once you got 13 yo (not sure if exactly 13, but somewhere close), which makes sense since you learn how to read. Is it different with maps?

The replenishment timer on wild gooseberry bush should be changed to match the new rate of pond refill - 168 hours.

Don't make things harder for very beginning towns. Better idea would be to make wild gooseberries stop growing after growing 15 berries in total (keep max 6 berries on a bush).
This would give us 21 berries from a bush in total.

Not much of a choice, is it?

You're so right, Kevin.

But don't worry, I'm sure that the next fix will remove wild berries as a late-game option, so this problem will be solved.

You are not serious but I would actually love it to remove them as a late-game option tongue
Wild berries are too op.

Tho rabbit clothes decay after 5h. It's not like people will willingly hunt rabbits once they are out around the town. Rabbits will be a pretty rare food in a little bit older arcs.

Another update based on removing a fun activity in hopes of balancing things without adding anything interesting.

It actually adds something interesting. People will have less clothes, they will eat more foods, water will go out faster. We need more survival in more developed towns to make it less boring.

#686 Re: Main Forum » Rabbits will no longer respawn, ponds will no longer refill » 2019-10-17 11:25:33

I like this change. One thing that I'm worried about is that we need backpacks and they can be made only from rabbit furs. It's Easy thing to grieff, even in early arcs. People could spend their life on hunting rabbits and cutting furs with a flint.

Maybe there should be a way to make backpacks in looms.

#687 Re: Main Forum » Oil and survival » 2019-10-16 19:43:32

Surviving in very beginning towns is tough and I like it. There is no survival at all in more developed towns which is kind of boring.

So end tower can trigger apocalypse? Eve window wasn't open after the apocalypse triggered by end tower.

a road to each well and around city, then haul the water back to cistern. You use buckets anyway to water stuff.

I'm not sure if you saying about making a town between springs, but if you do, I don't think it's a necessary. Transporting water is easy now thanks to tanks, there is no need to plan ahead to be super close to additional springs. You can make even 10 tanks and fill them in one go if you bring enough charcoal to a spring (newcomen pump). Fill cisterns in town and get another 10 tanks. Springs can be even far away and yet it wouldn't be that big problem.

I think arcs could survive very long without oil at all with new newcomen pumps system. Iron would be a big problem without oil but not water I think.

The biggest advantage in engine pumps is the time saved, but they are not as crucial as they used to be. Newcomen pumps are easy water but they are time consuming (getting kindling, making charcoal, transporting charcoal and so on).

#691 Re: Main Forum » Oil and survival » 2019-10-15 15:49:29

I had 2 days break so idk, but 2 days ago I spent my life on turning one nearby natural spring into newcomen pump and bringing as much water as possible. I think I brought enough water for an entire day and it was only one spring. There were at least 2 more natural springs very very near the town. I don't think water is an issue if someone is getting it from nearby springs. Making many kilns is useful, making charcoal probably takes the most time if a town has only 2 kilns.

I kidna wish water was an issue and yet everyone worked hard on it. But there are too many noobs, towns survive only thanks to few pros. People see exhausted well in town and they think that the town is doomed and they give up on working.

#692 Re: Main Forum » Do vanila users get bored more than the zoom users? (Story Bonus!) » 2019-10-14 18:54:20

I feel like this game is unplayable without zoom mod.
Recently someone asked me where is sheep pen... Finding necessary items is about luck if someone changes their position.
Finding iron veins must be like lifetime job for vanilla users in older arcs where most iron veins are collapsed, not mentioning tarry spots.
People build nice looking towns, vanilla users can't enjoy their look.

Idk, I enjoy playing with zoom, I wouldn't play this game if zoom was no more available.

So true, now carts with tires have 8 slots, horse with tires 8 too. It's worth making rubber room.

#694 Re: Main Forum » Only 5 tarry spots on map in next update » 2019-10-13 01:13:17

Could we use tanks on cisterns too, pls? A tank would fill as much water as cistern has water in it, but no more than 6 buckets (or 4?).

Maybe they could actually work on engine pumps too?

Btw

Rift barrier no longer blocks plane flights, and this setting is configurable live, without restarting the server.

This makes planes actually usefull, they could provide a way to transport iron and other needed resources from outside the rift. Idk if that was intended.

And since oil is very limited now, please consider making cars more usefull by lowering the fuel they need to ride. You don't tank cars in real life every two minutes anyway, so it's unrealistic the way it works now. Please make them run for 5 or 10 hours with one tanking.

You should have made the thread a bit differently so the people find it using google. Like "Milkweed Mod" "One life++" and a few pictures.

I agree, please edit first post and change title to Milkweed's mod.

Please also add a little tutorial how to install it and how to find game folder in your first post.

Whenever I teach new players I tell them to get zoom mod, yet I tell them about awbz mod because i think they wouldn't find your mod because of the title.

#697 Re: Main Forum » Myths and facts about why player numbers are dropping over time » 2019-10-12 18:36:12

Spoonwood I still think we should focus on why new players dropping rather than old players - new players don't quit because of any updates, they don't know the game yet. New players keep coming, I see these notifications all the time, but seems like they don't stay, otherwise there would be much more players playing.

Once I heard that Jason doesn't want people to be pro. We have bad tutorial, small sight range... But people don't want to be noobs, I think that may be the case of people quitting.

I see people were disliking it, but I really like this update big_smile It adds more survival part and is more newbies friendly thanks to newcomen pumps changes.

live-dev-changes wrote:

Reworked usage of newcomen water pumps. Instead of flat 1/20 chance of breaking after each pumping, we have four use states per pump, with a 1/10 chance of transitioning between use states after each pumping. This gives us an estimated 40 pumpings before exhaustion, which much lower variance. This is accomplished by installing a tank in the pump before pumping, which fills up with either 4 or 6 buckets worth of water, and is removed in one go (so the use counter of the pump can track its age and not how many buckets are left after a pumping). In general, this means these pumps last 2x as long, and are much more reliable.

I'm not sure exactly how will it work, but if we can transport that much water in tanks, that means making newcomen pumps in all natural springs around will be worth it. Yes, there are only 5 tarry spots but we will have much more time to make oil if we use 4 or 5 near natural springs to make newcomen pumps. This solution is much more newbies friendly than we had before. Teaching newbies how to build newcomen water pumps and get water from it will be another thing we can do, it's not that hard.

I feel like we get new players every while. The problem is that probably many of them don't stay for longer.

This notification thing and colored text could appear only if first word of a sentence was someone's name. So you could keep gossiping if you didn't use the name in first word tongue
