i want in general from OHOL a SIMULATION of CIVILIZATIONs
i want as next development in OHOL - CULTURE, incl all sorts of art & design (music, sculpture, painting, literature, religion ...), lore, community customs, community traditions, better in game tools/options to communicate,
without culture this game is not simulating civs
some beginner tips from my experience

watch out for your BODY TEMPERATURE (lower right corner)
average to half high is good, anything else is bad, especially if you're a baby/kid
clothing adds body temperature, full clothing is not suitable to be in the desert all the time
if you're a kid, carry FOOD with you - always - otherwise you'll probably die, death chance 50% higher than adult/teen
the older you get the more you're like a kid, so watch out for your food meter all the time as elder
don't waste high energy food (nutricious pies, mutton, cactus fruit) on kids & elders, use berries & carrots
if you find CACTI in the desert & don't have shoes, then use the cacti fruits to be carried on feet, it can save your life
you attach them to your feet only if your food meter is filled, otherwise you consume them immediately as normal food
which is a waste, cacti supply a very high energy level
in the new Monument update some changes to food were made, this has to be tested how it influences, how it changes the gameplay
set a HOME MARKER asap, otherwise you might not find back in time to your base, or your kids won't find it
for a home marker you need sapling (gives skewer), sharp stone, round stone
you can use that skewer to cook rabbits
the very first thing when spawned as Eve is to get a sharp stone, the second is to get a basket
SEED - SOIL - FOOD :

if you spawn into a village, where people FARM carrots, ask how they handle SEED
cause seeds & soil are as important as the carrots farmed to deliver food for the village
entire villages crumble if there is not enough carrots, not enough seeds & not enough soil
NEVER leave carrots on the field go to seed if less than ALL of them, because if they seed they consume the entire soil
if that happens (intentionally or accidentally) then you want to have the best advantage from that loss
& that is, ALL the seeds aviable from the loss of soil
carrots left on the field will seed eventually, do that always only if there is not enough wild seeds supply
you find wild seeds usually in the prairie (yellow ground) & the biomes nearby
worms are needed to make new soil (since an update), WORMS ARE FINITE
take good care of worms, wormy pits & soil in general
NEVER sow wheat where carrots grow
you cannot eat raw wheat, domestic wheat consumes soil always
if you do so, it's griefing !!!
to farm efficiently you need carrot seeds (preferably wild, so don't dig up wild carrots unless you're literally starving)
MILKWEED :

as important as carrots is also milkweed
take good care of the wild plants, handle with care, anything else is griefing !!!
gooseBERRY BUSHES :
----------------------
similar is with berry bushes
they replenish slowly, the more often you pic, the slower they replenish
don't pick the last berry unless you literally starve
afaik, bushes with the last berry present replenish faster than without any
CLOTHES, BASKET, BACKPACK, CART :

learn to make clothes from fur asap, clothes reduce your need for food drastically
the simplest form of clothing is a reed skirt but needs 4 milkweed
learn how to trap rabbits (needs milkweed)
carry things in bunches, thus you need at least one basket, backpacks are more efficient but need lots of milkweed, work & time
carts are even more efficient in a more advanced town
if there are not enough baskets in a town, make some new, if there are not enough backpacks in a town, make some new, if there are not enough carts in a town, make some new

test full gameplay with all lives
played today after 20 days hiatus (because i had it with murder)
& after couple of food updates & some changes to killers & victims (don't understand how that works or if it is at all doing something useful)
1. born as male baby in town - murder !!! several people ran with knives in backpacks, my brother was murdered, one guy with knives asked the other guy if he should kill me, before that i found my young niece & a young cousin who cared for the farms dead, they were maybe killed as well, there was plenty of food around
i prefered not to live further in that cold & confused town
2. born as female baby in town - no murder !!! i had 4 kids, 2 suicided, i cared a little for soil & farm, made baskets, a cart, got some supplies, died at 58
3. born as male baby in town - murder !!! there was a murder by mistake - stepped on a snake with 29

summary so far with all the food : too complicated, it will probably become even more complicated
the stuff lying around in a chaotic scattered manner is quite disturbing, is constantly in the way, causes even deaths

4. born as female baby to wild Eve - no murder !!! mother & brother died early, i was lucky being able to eat on my own short after the mother's death, had 4 kids, didn#t have time to set up the camp, the first Eve was too inexperienced, i died with 33 because too many kids, not enough food to reach in time
5. born as female baby in town - murder !!! went to catch rabbits to make some fur, backpacks, clothing
the need to eat different food is distracting
there was a murder, was told that it was willingly
died at 58

i decided to quit playing until a substantial improvement happens
in favour of the victims, empowering the victims, encouraging the peaceful players
until then, i am not playing anymore

female baby - 5 times, once born next to a murder / suicide everytime as promissed (no family)
Eva - 3 times, childless as promissed (no family) :
1) spawned into settlement, tried a hand at smithing, it took too long so i didn't manage to make a needed saw
2) the same town with the murder (suicide)
3) again Eva, bored, suicide
male baby - 5 times
1) started well, where first the mother wasn't around & some other female took care, later mother came back, but a murder started, so i suicided
2) born again into the same town (suicide)
3) the woman who took care of me did not have any milk, realised too late
4) mother Eva wasn't much experienced, born in the wild, she set up a farm, but then collapsed, either too late for a berry or connection lost, i lived later till 60, made pottery, caught rabbits, made pouches, farmed a little, didn't manage to pies

on that singular day i witnessed several murders &
i was killed two times
one time in a town
the second time in a settlement i was the Eve founder of, i was killed by the person who was my own child i nurtured & cared for sacrificing my own gameplay,
since that experience my gameplay changed drastically - I DISTRUST NOW EVERY IN GAME PLAYER !!! since every player can be my killer
i played since those two incidents only few times as Eve on an empty server, i've build two beginner settlements & learned a little new gameplay stuff i didn't get to before
but OHOL is not playable for me anymore
i do not trust the remaining OHOL players anymore
i have no fun playing this game while i have to watch out constantly for murder, either as witness or as victim
the players' base is dwindling because there is just not enough tools & options to protect from murder in a peaceful way,
if i am forced to become a killer myself, then i could be playing, if i wanted to, games that are more diverse than OHOL, more beautiful & more lively
i started playing OHOL because it promissed to be a game about building civilization - it isn't
OHOL in its current state is a murder & griefing simulator in a pseudo ancient setting
it has little to do with building civilization
creative, constructive, cultured & peaceful people are not being supported enough while murder is easy & the game forces all still remaining players to become killers themselves
i will be wrapping things up around OHOL for me,
i will examine the next couple of updates,
i will come back to actually playing OHOL again only if something substantially supportive will be added to the completely missing culture in OHOL

I've suicided because I've wanted to start as an eve or with an eve and start from the beginning. I find it more fun than contributing to something someone else made. I also like the challenge.
i think too, first you have to learn the basics as kid,
but then you have to succeed as Eve, in the meantime while you try & fail, try & fail, you can support others as kid too but not as a baby machine, not as long you don't succeed as Eve, at least once
because not to know if the own endevours left a mark, a personal mark, is demotivating to even play
it's all dandy to support other families, but you have to get something io to be willing to give too
that's why it would good to have family trees, those are motivating
i was born yesterday, few sessions back into a family i founded as Eve, that's rewarding
now i know at least one of my efforts to found something was successful
now i can support others more willingly, from time to time even as a female baby boom machine

hiding behind trees is what's making me avoid trees in general if i can only help it
i was once even killed by a wolf hiding behind trees
i also walk rather slowly if gathering,
several times in the past i died walking carelessly fast & not able anymore to react to a predator

OHOL needs badly culture, especially options/tools of art & design
those tools/options should enable at the very least the Eve player to set a visible footprint in art/design to define the family,
name alone is not enough, even if there was a family tree, that's not enough
from that basic Eve's art/design the culture of the family should grow in a way making it not repeatable elsewhere
at least some members of a family should have access to art/design to define an exclusive appearance & make the family recognizable, not repeatable elsewhere, unique
exchangeability makes the gameplay boring & players not to care

To be honest, from my last dozen runs I have not really seen anybody who wants/knows how/cares at all about farming. And I am not even talking about making compost piles thus creating self sustainable farms, just simple farming. It's either I spent my life farming/making pies or village dies out.
Every newborn kid tends to do whatever he can except for food production. Literally anything, but not farming. Closest they get to food production is rabbit hunting.
And in those rare cases when somebody finally decides to help farming he usually screws everything up by eating berries, watering everything even tho we don't have any free storage, plants milkweeds in the middle of carrot farm, just fails to pick up carrots and destroys soil.. There is like 1001 different ways to screw up civilization and it will take more than a life to explain everything to the new player.I am sorry about that post guys. I need a brake. May be few weeks later people will get better at this game and trying to make civilization work will not be such pain in the loincloth. Right now the game is super easy in "singleplayer mode" and super hard once you have at least two other players around.
Also.. Jason, please, make a singplayer mode of this game, I want to make a perfect civilization at least once after my 55 hours of gameplay xD
at least there are more ways to screw up a running farm than to keep it going
in my perception there are indeed more players interested in something else than farming, though from time to time players want to learn farming
i tell those hanging around a farm always how to farm sustainable, no matter if they ask or not, because it's rather easy to screw up
so every settlement i'm born into does the pies, as before, as nothing happened, as the worms wouldn't be there
wheat is being planted, as before
nobody cares to eat mainly carrots
only few want to farm, but many want to pie, lol
so, is it reasonable still to pie ?
or is it now better to eat the rabbits cooked & stay with the carrots as the main food ?

Honestly I just pop out at least two, maybe three daughters, raise them, then ignore the rest of the children. Some boys live in between if I feel like it. Just so that we can keep making more. If I really don't give a damn I just raise 1 daughter and ignore the rest so I can work

with me as player you can be sure by now, if i will be born as female baby, i will suicide no matter what
I for the life of me can't figure out why babies suicide in the middle of a well established (and sustainable) village, do they want to live the feral Eve life?
Maybe they are suiciding in a desperate attempt to re-spawn in another village that they tried to create. I can't figure it out.
I get (although don't like it) when babies suicide with a wild Eve, but I can't figure out why they would do this in a good home.
Just had about 4 kids die on me within 10 seconds, as did my sister in a functioning and fully clothed village. Jason's latest Eve spreading apocalypse was created to prevent people from constantly respawning in the same village, but that has led to the suicide epidemic of significant proportions. Arguably, it is more game breaking than trolls.
i supported since i play, for 1.5 weeks now, every civ i was born into or came across, as male with my dilligence & as female with offsprings - but now my patience & understanding is at its end
i didn't manage so far to establish my own lineage as Eve, if so, then i don't know nothing about because OHOL doesn't give me any tools to know, so why should i support any of the other lineages by other players ?
i suicide as baby immediately if i am born into a settlement as female, because i am fed up being a baby popping machine to someone else's benefit - what do i get in return if i am Eve ? so far NOTHING than incapable kids, bad maps & mass starvation
i stay alive now in an existing settlement only if i am male - i suppose this game made me now to a boyhood griefer, sorry

Starving was the human pass time for 90000+ years
would that have been all to life back then, then humanity wouldn't have survived, survival alone is not motivating
they had art already, they had community, laws, fun, which is all missing in OHOL

OHOL is still limited to only one hour life, this remains & would make even the guilds very different from those in other mmos
guilds could function as families, it happens already now & people like to play that way, playing with the same people one grew fond of
i played in my life in several games with guild system & the people i've met were mostly nice & rather helpful
i still can't fathom how civilization can blossom out of what we have now in OHOL,
cause civilization needs continuation & that is hardly guaranteed as far one doesn't use mods & extra options outside the gameplay itself
a good game contains all elements enjoyable for players & makes usage of external tools obsolete

About 75% of my children are food leeches. I really think we need a process of identifying good players and bad (perhaps "q" https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1001). At the current post-apoc meta, food leeches are intolerable.

i made a suggestion of guilds
if there were guilds, as in many mmos usual, then we could find people that suit the atmosphere of the guild
i imagine this could be quite fun, even with the limited content we now have
a guild could specialize, on farming, or pottery or guarding, if there was trade additionally & treaties, a farming guild could make a treaty with a guarding guild to get protection from griefers/murderers
if one day there would be a market feature, a farming guild could sell carrots & whatnot & buy pottery & tools
this game would become dynamic
but meantime i doubt Jason is interested in such a game, same as the players now find it enough to build until the storage of goods is full, every tool multiplied, every bear, wolf & snake in the surroundings killed & then the players don't log in anymore, because what for ?
maybe with some luck a griefer finds his way there to add some destruction to the stagnant monstroCity & maybe some day someone rebuilds the berry bushes again but that's it
my sessions as Eve & baby are atm short, ca 15 min, then i die, are they interesting ? nope
even if i manage to die with 60, not something to look forward to, most kids are useless, 90% dies anyway, leaving only bones

Well, I can survive and build a little settlement, but none of my children ever survive, which, because of how the game works now, means likely no one will find the settlement, which makes this feel pretty pointless.
Got bored with my last life and ended it.
even if the kids survive it's pointless because there is no family tree
i still didn't learn properly pottery & surely no smithing, but even if i would, what for ?
would there be art & design, then the design itself would be reward, same as people build towns to design, it's a creative process, rewarding in itself
to make stuff just to learn it in game, maybe use it doesn't make much sense, now i understand griefers, the shovel finally makes sense ![]()
OHOL atm has little perspective, made harder to survive makes the sessions only shorter & more hectic, it's not really more engaging
how about a guild system in OHOL ? to organize to at least a small society than just playing among a bunch of egoists, everyone of them doing the own thing, unbound builders designing every town into a cookie cutter moloch & griefers leading the way
guilds with a leader, officers & members
options to ask for enlistment into a guild, roles given by the leader & officers, better communication options within the guild, group foraging, nomadic options, raids, wars & so on
