I was calling a guy nammed Eric, I had no name, my mother certainly thought I wanted this name so she named me Eric. It turned out as Erica. but I was still a boy ! Eric's project was to make a nursery and move the fire, which was one or two tiles under forges. I wanted to help him.
I first went for wood, bringing logs one by ones with my small arms. Eric was delimiting the building.
Then we went for stones, Eric had fun killing a wolf. We chose the pattern for the floor, and he started building while i was bringing stones. Some kids joined and helped him.
Once I came back, I hadn't seen him for a while and asked a builder where Eric was. That's when I learned he had been killed. His bloody bones were laying above the building. Great deception my partner wouldnt see his project done, I almost gave up. But two people were building the walls so I swallowed my sorrow and finished the floor. It has a nice checkboard part on top and bottom is only wood.
Then I took his bones and burried him near the maple tree, west. I also make a B and marked his grave with a "brother", even if he was my cousin. I saw them only when they were writting, even if they were just near me, but the two other builders made a note telling this building was dedicated to Eric Troll. I showed them the grave and put the note on it. And I died.
(I know, the picture is ugly but that's all I have)
Few hours later, I reborn in that same town. I'm glad to see people added doors, boxes and stuff. But Eric's grave isn't here anymore. I overed all bones in the cemetery, no Eric bones. I'm a bit upset, but i guess someone needed a flat stone... I found the grave of Erica Troll, it cheers me up to see people burried me. And a note saying ... well, I forgot, but something like "brothers in life, brothers in death", I find it very sweet. But Eric's grave isnt there so it has no sens anymore.
I decide to make burritos to be useful and get rid of beans and wheat.
And as I bring the plates of burritos near stew pots... I see Eric's grave ! Just at the top entrance of the building, with his note. They didn't get rid of him as I thought, they moved him ! Yay, I'm so happy !!! (even if it doesn't say "brother" anymore).
I moved my grave next to his and prepared letter stocks to make two B. I planted some milkweed and had a daughter I named Erika (obviously !). I told her the story and it seems she liked it very much. She asked me how to make letter B so I taught her. I had to tell her the first steps as I had already made four C. I showed her my secret milkweed garden and let her built the Bs. Then she had to mark our tombstones, what she did perfectly.
Now Eric and Erica rest near their nursery in their pretty tombstones. (I forgot to make ugly screenshot).
But guess what, Eric. The fire spot is still one or two tiles under forges and they still raise babies there. Our so-called nursery is though a nice wardrobe !
You can choose anything, but only one thing!
Baby slings
Babies in carts
Baby cribs and baby bedrolls made of bear fur keeping them warmAlso
Saddles on pigs to use them as riding animals for kids
Girls...
I barely thought of it but I wish we had a kind of general chat/ check list/ to-do list to know what is needed and what people are working on. You could click on a task to tell people you're going for latex and it would say "Barry Lindon is getting latex", and if ever you die on your way then the task becomes available again.
Or the baker needs wheat, there's no more in town, someone would tick on the list and it would show "we need wheat".
That's maybe not very clear but I don't know how to express it better, as I said I barely thought of it.
I agree with Dodge's list.
I'd also like to be able to pass gate ownership to a whole familly ("familly X owns this") instead of saying everybody's single name.
I lived a life peacefully with only foreigners.
I planted some berry bushes, beans for green beans and corn because there was nothing to eat. A bunch of babies were born there during this life. I was a male but I took care of some abandonned ones. I also skinned mouflons west to dress babies. We all gathered in the middle and lifted our hats as a tribute to Tarr.
And at the very end of my life, one guy was luring 5 or 6 bears to the monument.
I see.
Wow.
Well, now I'll know.
Indeed, that town sucked. Two bows were trapped top right corner with a bear, one bear was inside town, and I thought all my life I was fenced inside too. Only when I got 35 I finally found a hole, very east, almost near rift. I had five minutes to have a girl, my kids /died and I was last woman. I met nobody in town either, I thought I was the really last one. So, in a hurry, I found this bow outside and two arrows, one was already on a bear. I wanted to kill it, get the arrows and kill bears inside town. And I shot this guys, crossing my road at the wrong time. He wasn't that a kid tho. (I feel bad enough)
Well, lesson learned !
So, bow loaded, I clicked on the bear to kill it but I don't know why I was pressing shift at the same time. And it aimed and killed a familly member who was close.
Is that normal ?
I know I made a mistake in pressing shit but still, I clicked the bear.
I'm very sorry, Myson, I didn't mean to kill you at all. I had just found a bow and last arrow to kill the two bears that were trapped inside town and wanted to get rid of this one too...
Hey there, little Piotr ! You were born at the very end of the trip. That was a long and stressful walk, I felt a bit sorry for my kids they have to spend so many years walking. I'm glad you didn't die by bear at this life ! I was also glad (and a bit proud) the lineage had been saved for a while.
Thank you Pein for the explanations. Another advice I forgot is "let the kid come to you". If the kid says F, I stop and let him reach me, to avoid the dance I come up to take you-you come down to reach me-I come back down-you come back up-ffs stop moving!!
Indeed, don't bother with lazy kids or rude babies. I also don't run after kids, I warn them to stay in my arms while I show them around or look for loot. If they jump once, I warn again, if they jump twice, I give them up. They just waste your time and hunger.
I was born in a thriving town, everyone seems busy, and it’s crowded. If I remember well, I have only pants on. I need a backpack so I decide to loot around. From a previous life, I had saved two backpacks with war swords so I wanted to see if they weren’t far and get them back.
My exploration took me very far… almost one thousand tiles away from town. On my way, I found a cart full of bowls, plates and other interesting stuff. I got fully dressed while walking, but still no backpack. I also met a broken horse.
And the first baby comes : “hi baby, I’m a bit far from town, is that ok?” “y”. Good. “you are Victor” ! I left the cart, retraced my steps a bit to dress him up, and headed north, I’m quite sure my hiding spot is somewhere around. I finally find a backpack in some ruins, not the one I wanted but that’s good. Mine are probably further north, I will have some other kids, I can’t really afford to waste time.
Little Victor can now hold a basket and soon enough comes his brother : “hi baby, I’m a bit far from town, is that ok ?” “y” then “you are Felix” !
Do you know how to yum, Victor ?
Yes !
Then let’s get the cart back and go back to town !
Victor fills his belly with berries, get some extra food and we’re gone.
The cart lays somewhere in a mountain biome, full of wolves and bears. A bear came to greet us, we’re a little stuck, me with the last born in my arms and Victor too young to pull cart. Quickly I dodge the bear and lure it south, Victor can escape north, I drop the baby, get the cart back and we run away.
And hey ! Hi new baby ! He accepts to travel too, he is Igor. Victor isn’t old enough to pull cart, babies have to follow me. “Step on items” ! And there we are, little posse, crossing carefully the dangerous biome.
Hi there, little girl ! (“Please stay” I think inside, she’s my only girl). “We’re going back home but we’re a little far .Is it ok ?” “y” then “you are Nadia”. Victor can now pull cart, I’m holding naked Nadia, I feed the two other boys when they need. However… I lost Felix. I thought he was ok, everybody was following (very obedient kids <3), I saw him moved away but I couldn’t run after him, as our time was counted.
Nadia is now three and comes the last one, Piotr. Almost there, only three hundred tiles…
As we were taking a break at a bush, I found out Igor was actually a jerk. Igor dies, he said bitch. No bad words in my kids’ mouth. We leave him behind.
Of course, when we arrive, the town is still kicking, there is yummy food everywhere, it’s tidy, and people are enjoying each others.
Sorry, no, that was another life.
Town had been raided, my little sister Eris is the only survivor. There are corpses, clothes, backpacks everywhere. This is messy and depressing. My little band quickly went to work, my kids are really awesome.
I fixed farms while cooking pies, Nadia became a potato for a while so I also fed her kids. She too had only one girl.
Soon it’s goodbye time. I expected a quiet life looting in the wild, with no many babies, I had an epic travel across the world with great people.
How did we do?
As I pass by banana trees, I stop and everybody feeds themselves and gathers supplies. As we pass by berry bushes, everyone eats one berry from the bush and one from the bowl that is in cart. We repeat the funny scene of drop cart-get pile of bowl-get a bowl-put a berry inside-eat it at many bushes. I asked them twice to feed me, to keep my yum (I was yum twelve). They weren’t newbies, so it helps. I had a good yum, so it helps.
When you have two young kids, carry one, let the other follow you, switch kids when the walking one is hungry.
If you have a cart and a baby, drop the cart from time to time to feed the baby (every ten seconds ? I didn’t measure). The baby has to follow you, if he doesn’t then abandon him.
So, next time you wonder which one to choose between cart and kid, pick both !
-----
I wonder why I had only one girl ( I don’t count the /die girl), and why my daughter had only one too.

I have a similar story :
I was born in a kicking town, engine is set up, there are baskets full of pies... Only a few berry bushes are languishing, i can't see any bucket around so, okay, I go on a rope mission. I leave the town with only my pants on. Quickly, I find a backpack, wooden shoes and a rabbit fur coat for me, and a lot of clothes that I can't take. I pass by a lot of arrows and bows hidden behind trees, I found two knives and a broken horse cart. Great ! I'll first get a rope to repair the horse to bring all clothes to town. Obviously, no more wild milkweed but I find a spot near swamps, with a bowl of milkweed seeds, a stone hoe, clay bowls and other usefull stuff. Okay, let's plant four of them, while they grow I can explore more. But there's only three seeds... It's gonna be a bit longer than expected. And here comes a man to who I explain what I'm doing. He hands me a milkweed stack. Omg thank you, just what I was missing ! Then he suggested we plant more milkweed to have a bondage party. That sounds fun, I accept.
Here starts our ant work : all by hand, one brings wild soil with basket and backpack, the other separates with a bowl, one makes rows with the stone hoe, the other plants, we switch roles, we made a chain to water the plants (I was laughing hard when we were switching empty bowls with bowls of water) as we had no well but some pounds south.
At then end, we got around sixty milkweeds. We filled our backpacks, two extra backpacks I had found previously, and one basket (btw Arkajalka next time, bring the bp instead of basket as it holds one more item) and went back to town.
Only to find a bunch of starving half-naked people, running over bones everywhere inside the city and its dry berry field, raw pies, kids shouting F... I fell like hanging myself with my ropes.
During all our farm job, we fed ourselves with berries, two or three rows of carrots, bananas, cactus fruits, and 3-4 bites of pie. And there was some food left when we left our farm. How did we last ? We were yumming (I assume Arkajalka was too). We didn't have a big variety of food, but even a small chain is better than nothing. One berry, one berry from a bowl, one carrot, start over. You'll last longer than eating three berries from the bush.
Since the rift update, it's even harder to teach newbies. They die quickly because they forget to eat, stand on desert tiles or one of us just get killed by grieffers/foreigners. We live under preassure and emergency, and it too much ends in a bloodbath. That's not really fun.
I won't talk about all the stuff hidden behind trees. In this life, I saw maybe six bows and ten arrows hidden in the wild, and I haven't explored that much. No wonder why there's no rope for bucket.
I personally think the rift is way too small. I don't like it because I don't like being trapped, yet it's way too small.
I made some quick mathematics with the towns Slinky and I built on a low pop server. The city I built alone sprawls out on around 100x80 tiles. I started by walking more than 400 tiles to find a good spot (I wanted a hudge biome with a few of non-removable objects). I have dug and used all the big rocks over two hundred tiles around the city. Trees too, I even planted more. I tapped all the iron veins 300-400 tiles around. The city looks like a city, it could probably host 10-15 people and I spent around 80-90 hours on it. So, that's something a familly could easily do, as long as people are working. And many do, and many explore far.
The kitchen Slinky built in the south city is only a 12x5 buildings, with six doors. That's 34 stones, 72 logs (for floor only), more than one chisel, four mallets. The southern city is even bigger than the northern one, no need to say we have explored even farther than 400 tiles around. They are 600-700 tiles far appart, that's 2-3min by horse. Not far at all.
It seems to me that there's even less big rocks since yesterday, with the new biomes generation. What means less big buildings. Well, if famillies/cities have to last three days anyway, I don't really see the point of building them.
Those are my disjointed thoughts about the rift. If it remains that small, it removes some creativity.
With that map size, people meet too early and fight too early. And too much.
Also, 21 related girl kids ?! To what we add maybe 10 men ? More than 30 people in a single familly, isn't it a bit too much ?
Quiet lives like the one we had are too rare. So "thznk you" again, Arkajalka !
Don’t take any risks hunting bears, save your family, become a hero in following this recipe.
What you need :
- a bow
- three arrows
- a backpack (optional, but more convenient)
- a good yum chain or a pie (follow Morti’s excellent explanations https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=7323 to which I would add : eat when you’re 2-3 pips and profit you’re in town to eat something you can’t take away/find in the wild like stew, turkey, turkey broth… Life is easier with a good yum)
- a bear
- patience
Lure the bear in an open area and find an item to stand on it. As long as you stay on the item, you’re invincible. Move away from trees as they block walking and bear may take longer to come close to you.
Wait for the bear to stop on the very left/right or up/down tile next to you and shot an arrow.
Wait for it to move again, as soon as it stops drop your bow on the opposite tile and reload.
Repeat : wait for the bear to be next to you, shot, reload. Take your time to do that, as the bear will pass in front of you and you may click it or an empty tile (and move, and get bitten, and die).

If the bear moves diagonally from you, wait for it to move again, as soon it does move quickly to another item, opposite direction. Repeat until you get the bear to move up/down or left/right from your safe spot.
Remember the more arrows in its body, the faster he is. You’ll have to be quick, but no panic, you still have time to reload. If not, wait for it to move again and run away in the opposite direction without looking back.
Now you have shot your three arrows, the bear collapses a few tiles away. Get back your equipment, go back to town to announce your victory. Or go for another bear to brag even more when you’ll return. Just don't forget to check on your yum.

If there are several bears in one place, focus on one. Three arrows are required to take it down and you have only three arrows. Lure it away from others, kill it, repeat for other bears.
You may fail. I have failed, and still do sometimes when I’m in too much of a hurry. That’s how we learn ! Try to not panic and be sure of what you click on.
And sometimes, you get a good-luck charm so that’s even easier ![]()

Thank you for the round patterns, i like the 3-5-9-11 very much and may try it very soon. Also some great ideas with the 20x20 patterns. Now I feel like building most of them... Tho I think 4 farms in a row isn't convenient as, if the floor tile is taken by compost for example, you can't drop your bowl close to the farm (moving during a repetitive task annoyes me). Diagonal floors make harveting easier, as you're not annoyed with someone below, hidding your bowl.
I also like your irrigation machine, though I doubt we see it in game one day. A simple garden hose would be awesome too, just to avoid bucket-plant-bucket-plant boring movements. Or if we could just link the well to cisterns with pipes, so the cisterns get filled automatically (once again, well-cistern-well-cistern isn't very interesting). You could even add taps to choose which cistern you wanna fill.
@Olij
Whatever you say, I stopped reading your posts a while ago, because they are either full of hate, mispelling, or stupidities (I still laugh hard thinking about your one-thousand-stakes roads). It's a pain in the ass to read you, and in the end, I realise I lost my time. It seems you have a very boring life, you may not be surrounded by loving and carrying familly/friends, and to prove you exist you think annoying people is the best idea. I feel sorry for you, and would to reply to your any of your posts with something like this if I had time to waste :

I deeply agree with you, and I very often teach something new to a newbie. Or I drop a tip to a player, passing by.
I don't "hide" on low pop server, I play the game. I bought this game because I thought it was about a familly evolving, from "prehistory" to future. I come from Don't Starve, I like building stuff, climbing the tech tree. I believed in the "one hundred new objects added every week" promise, and I thought I would be able to build this red car we see in the trailer pretty soon.
I don't want pvp, moreover a bad pvp game. I got annoyed by the propriety fences, I got pissed of with murders in every lives I would play.
Yes, I miss meeting new players and build together. That's why I still play on BS2.
But I want to build this f**g red car !
And what I just saw :

Go ahead guys, pimp your gardens !
I saw them for real and they are actually a mix between flowers and vegetables. The vegetables feed the castle owners, you can buy them after your visit and extra production goes to a charitable association. Because... they are huge gardens !
I just found that :

The 3x3 berry farms were planted, and all the road around was done, except three tiles (I took the screenshot after I started). So I added my own little touch to make that :

I missed a bit of seeds and one floor tile, but it already looks different then usual ! Someone may, before the apocalypse (hurry !) add their own circle.
I've been lucky in this life to be born as a male, that there were a bunch of soil pits, tools all around, and everybody south around the fire (they end up killing each others. Guys, you'd better keep yourself busy...). There was also wood west, not that close but many trees.
I spent my 7 first years to get a backpack, I "lost" some years in talking and taking a picture of two young survivors. I usually first draw the garden on grid paper, so I can easily look at it and count tiles while playing. I improvised this one so I may have lost a bit of time too.
Making castle gardens is possible !
I played around with your garden in Gimp. You can easily turn it into a heart shape, or diamon (grey boards=stone floor).
And I left some rectangular shapes, as you love them ![]()
I surrounded with roads because it was easier to copy-paste but it's supposed to be boards.

All those are just suggestions !
If you need inspiration (not saying that because i'm a little bored of 3x3 farms
) https://www.lesplusbeauxjardinsdefrance … landry.jpg
I built some of them on a low pop server. Of course, it took me several lives to complete them but a square of 7x7 (plants plus wooden parts) is faisable on BS2 in less than one full life. I built top left corner several times :
https://i.imgur.com/rhTzyCI.png
You can mix 3x3 with 2x2 :
https://i.imgur.com/mG3GpXj.png
https://i.imgur.com/DuszLnO.jpg
Round shapes are also nice but it's a little bit hard to make them look round :
https://i.imgur.com/TTpYYMY.png
I messed up here because i changed my mind several times, but the idea is to have your vegetables planted symetrically, on a diagonal axis.
Moreover, here, they are purely for aesthetic. A town would never need as many tomatoes nor onions.
The last one, not done yet, is probably the best balanced for a town needed. 3x3 squares near onions are for carrots :
https://i.imgur.com/quVHWvW.png
And to conclude, I would say that a place of 3x3 in the middle or near your farm is convenient to store hoe, basket, bowl, bucket and seeds. And ancien stone floors look nice but I find it hard to see items on them.
Voilà. ![]()
Happy building !
The warsword shouldn't be made out of steel.
I'm against the warsword, that's a mean and stupid update, but now we have to deal with it. Okay, but it should be a little bit harder for them to build it than just steal the pipes intended to the oil rig That is really annoying to spend all your life gathering iron, turning it to steel, getting water and kindlings, all this mostly alone, finally get a bit of pipes, enough to set the pump before you die, and some kids come and turn your pipes into swords.
I have no screenshot but this life was one of my favorite. I was born as a boy in a medium size city.
I don’t remember what my name was but his name was George. I spent most of my life bringing iron back, and each time I was back in town I would cross this farming man wearing a lovely red dress. He got impressed by my carts, I boasted a bit and self-appointed « king of iron ». He asked me if he could be my wife, I said yes, and as I spotted a gold vein during my travels, I told him « let me make you a crown first ». What I did, I made him a nice carrot crown and we asked a young boy to marry us.
The poor boy did his best saying the words one by one : « do you [my name] wanna take Lucky as your wife ? » he asked. Scandal ! Lucky is my sister, assisting to our wedding. »Nooooo !!! » I shout, « I don’t gaf of Lucky, I wanna marry George !! ». We all appologized, one for his mistake, me for saying to Lucky that I didnt gaf about her. I didn’t see what the boy said next but George replied yes, so I said « with this crown, I [my name], king of iron, take you George, Queen of carrots, as my wife ». The crown fits him so well, we now are married ! I almost died of happiness (and starvation…).
We had our honey moon in the sheep pen, dead baby sheeps make nice pillows. I was so thrilled I wanted to give away pillows of love to babies. While I was offering one to a kid, George arrived next to me and died at my feet. I didn’t see his last words, I don’t know how he died. It was so sudden, I was distraught, I let myself die next to him . « I can ‘t live without you, George my love » were my last words.
When I looked at the familly tree after that, I saw his last words were « i love you [my name] » and that he was my brother.
I never RP, I got caught by the opportunity and George’s kindness, and this life made me laught a lot.
Thank you George, I still remember this day with happiness and will remember it for long.
Was that the Bossard familly ? If so, I turned a lot of your iron into steel, helped at the end of my life by a young boy. We were indeed so rich !
But... we were only boys, no girl left, familly is dead. Bye bye our work !
There should be an option "ask me again later" for when people don't feel like replying right away or just don't have time for that.
@Valareos : You can make nice castle crenels alternating high and small bell tower bases, for front and back walls. It takes some lives and some chisels, but the result is worth it !
I agree. Be a kind kidling man.
Today, we welcomed an Eve and her daughter to our town. One of our member wanted to get rid of them, he killed the Eve, I picked up the baby and he stabbed her while she was in my arms (killing action started before I pick the girl up). That shouldn't happen. I want a chance to save kids, moreover when we all except one agree to welcome foreigners.
Btw, it's omelette au fromage.
I met this person twice today.
Once I was a brand new baby, a man stole me from my mother and named me Adolfo. I wrote his name down but forgot about cursing him once I was an adult.
Second time, I was a grandma and a girl (Lisa) came to me, saying with her four letters words that a woman was naming kids Adolfo near the fire. I went there, got the kid she just poped out and ran away with him, named him John (sorry baby, it was panic, I was starving and so were you) before I dropped him and fed him. I cursed the woman and she chased me around to know why. I was on my nerves and it was so obvious that I didn't reply. A little bit later and older, Lisa got a knife and stabbed the woman. Of course, some players didn't see the whole scene and cursed Lisa. I was 58, starving, a man asked me who killed, I just had time to say "trust Lisa".
I also found some notes in many towns saying "name your kids/adopted kids adolfo".
If you read this, adolfo lover, I'll keep cursing you if I meet you and if you don't understand why, it's that you're even more stupid than you seem.
