The wall was so far outside of town I thought it was another town... and it just kept going. I hadn't realized we were full corner before.
Took me about... 18 hours and about 20 lives in a row just to make the walls and the roads inside, I wanted to finish all the inside roads before making the path to the center, but I was just too tired after already playing for like 3 hours in the previous arc.
Least I got the garden done at the gate before I lost consciousness.
Going from a 6 spring wall to a 16 spring one was no small feat. "Last time it was 2x3, this time I'll try 3x3... no wait, 4x4!" I said to myself, and it was done. My day's schedule was full.
Maybe next arc I'll go 60 springs? 6x10? >_< I was actually either thinking of smaller, 3x3, or bigger, 5x5, but I'd only try 5x5 if I had a lot of motivation, or, perhaps some more help. I think in the 2x3 other people helped with about 5% of the walls, but in this one someone helped with maybe 3%. I appreciated it, both times, no matter how small the contribution.
What the map might look like if 4 families made 60s.
Or, shared walls, and each went for 70s?
We'll never see that though, not without a unilateral agreement that it should just be the way things are, or, some really ace coordination and communication skills.
I even, amusingly, thought, while making this 4x4 wall "I could just wall in the whole arc."

Keep everyone safe.
Anyway, enough, dreaming, and enough typing! Typing in a forum doesn't get things built!
After my little jaunt to look for iron - I found a dead town I'd been in earlier, watered the trees I started, and took their engine - someone said I had the gate, and I granted to the family. I didn't see an arc announcement all day, but I was only in two families, who seemed be mostly at war.
Was it the town south of the corner(Dupee), SSE (Cass), or one ESE (Swagger)? If I recall there are ones near in these 3 places:
Not exactly sure of the times, started playing with your map, but I haven't done so enough to be clear whats what.
Glad you all like that town.
Sorry I http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5236668 ...
Oops, that wasn't me last arc, this was: http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5237694
Little details...
Was Just looking at Wondible's map for the last arc and noticed a few of the names of my kids and looked them up.

Little details... sorry so many of you died so early, watching the animation and checking your ages... really hurt.
I'm sorry.
E is Engine Coordinate
T is Top Right Corner
No idea who put it there but someone might want it.
Too much drama today with the little fence village, won't be able to get many flat rocks into the big city =/
Well shit, I went tyrant public service last life and killed a family in a little fence along the path for the road.
They refused to move... let the drama ensue.
Would the owner please strike a deal with me? I will gladly make a new fence area with well and ponds nearby to replace what you have there. I just want the road to go through.
No hard feelings?
Be honest.
Here is the plan for today.

I doubt all the flat rocks in the blue area will give me that many roads inside, but, I'm going to try to do something like that, just to connect the wells inside so farmers can have their own personal farms, if they like. Feel free to make a few sheep pens inside, we can use all the soil we can get; lot of desert and badlands in there. At least we got oil and iron inside this time.
I'm not sure about the mechanics of the oil wells, do they last very long? Do they regenerate oil after awhile or once they are out, is that it? No more? Which, would sort make sense, I suppose. Unless we had a few million years for the heat and pressure to turn more of those long dead organisms into black blood.

That's about to change though...
Figured some of you may have wanted to see it. Before much is changed.

The Plan

The General Idea - The roads pass below the springs to avoid interrupting travel every 40 steps.

(This is 701x701 pixels in Paint, which has top left pixel (or square) set to 0,0, so, it's actually 2 x and 2 y larger than it maybe should be, but, they are 1 on each side, so it is still centered. It might look more like this: https://i.imgur.com/3Ya7zHA.png I'm not sure, at the moment, if the rift is 700x700 or if the playable area inside the rift is square 700x700 and the rift is a box 702x702 and 1 tile thick.)
Couple things I ask, if you want to help:
- Please try to keep the roads straight. No veering around trees, rocks, or anything that can eventually be removed.
- If there are, say, two rabbit holes spaced a few tiles apart, fill the road tiles between them for a consistent, visual, line.
I would do the 'Eightfold path' with the eight roads radiating out from stone floor at 0,-1, but leaving 4 spokes leaves half the flat rocks out for players to use for town paths; whether in the towns, to the oil wells or to connect up to one of the four spokes.
--
I appreciate all the help many of you have offered in the past, making these roads; whether gathering flat rocks and placing them on the paths, cutting down trees and removing obstacles, or hammering stakes with rocks and laying the stone roads themselves. (Remember Stone Roads ≠ Stone Floor, stone floors do not give a movement speed bonus.)
Oh, and if you've seen these roads and don't know how to use them (some don't, it's ok) step on one of them and then click on another and you will move automatically, faster than you normally would, along those paths. Just be prepared to step off the path if there happens to be a bear, wolf, boar or snake along the road.
--
Long term plans for these roads.

Just a few ideas. Be creative, be friendly, show Jason what we are really 'interested' in.
Show each other, what we really care about, is, each other.
Glad you all like that town.
Sorry I http://lineage.onehouronelife.com/serve … id=5236668 didn't start closer to oil when this arc began, but after the last arc, I noticed some of the really beautiful cities had ancient walls around them instead of simple fences, so, rather than spend my first 20 lives or so working on the X Road connecting the four corners to the monument, I took the opportunity I was given when I was working on the northeast corner of the road in the last arc, and instead decided to box in six springs, a fair amount of soil and an iron mine.
I could have taken another life or two to search the other four corners for 4, 6 or even 9 springs that would include an iron mine, oil, and enough other resources, mostly soil, for a town to get off it's feet and really distinguish itself from the surrounding area. I think I spent about 8 full lives yesterday working on the walls (while doing anything else that I felt necessarily needed to be done) and another 4 working on the flat stone road from the gate towards the center, as well as around the inside.
I just didn't want people to feel as trapped as they did in a 1, 2 or even 4 well sized town, and, having 2 of the 4 sides be the rift, that just means I could make the other two sides twice as big.
Many thanks to Mercury, Venus, Terra, Luna, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, all the other astronomical bodies I have birthed while working there and all the friends, families and Eve's who, didn't just help, but, made it possible. Let me just thank all of you; each and every one of you, for playing this game at all. I also want to apologize, to those of you who cared for me yesterday, who I then ran away from at 3 years old to go work on the walls, roads and gather resources for that growing town. Maybe if you have been born there since, you have enjoyed the fruits of my labors, as I yours.
Things I'd still like to see for that town:
- I'd like steam engines (charcoal fuel) on most of the springs.
- I'd like people farming branches, maybe some nice parks with wood, stone, brick or concrete paths working their way through them, so harvesting and gathering branches for kindling is convenient.
- Any project you'd love to work on.
The place is already so beautiful thanks to all of you, keep up the good work.
Today I'm going to try and work more on the Monument Road Network; the X from corner-to-corner, so that people can once again continue to move, a little more freely, across the map, whenever I am born outside the town. And when I am born inside, I'll mostly be admiring everything, all of you have done, while contributing what I can to your projects, here and there.
--
I realized the value most of you diesel-engine-focused players put on oil, and I did what I could to get a road to the well near the closest oil patch. I'd decided early I just wanted one main gate for the town, but someone went and made a second one anyhow. ...I wish the walls were only there for looks, and that they didn't serve to host the fence gates or anything else to prevent people from flowing into and out of the town, but... who knows...
Who knows? Jason doesn't care about our happiness or content. He doesn't care what we are interested in, only in the stories he wants people to make for his sake.
He wants epic villains, which create epic heroes, but let's do our best to see he gets neither. I care about all of you. It's too late to not care about all of you. I'll remember all of you, the more you contribute to the game and the forum; the more of your lives you share with me, the more we become a part of one another. I think that's pretty much the goal, of all this. All of your systems. Everything that makes getting resources, and information, around to each other, faster, better, and more efficiently. We're a great being; call it life, call it Earth, call it what you like for now. Maybe, once enough of us have fully realized that, we'll be ready, to turn other worlds, into similar beings, and then, this whole process can begin to occur again, on the next great scale. We're on the cusp of it now. You're all a part of it, simply, by being. It's been a pleasure to love you all, along the way.
--
Thank you so much, for the screenshots Rheianos, I'd love to see more, in this and other posts, from any, and every one, wanting to share.
Pein, is land reclamation still active in the rift?
Yeah, miskas, you can find places where flat rocks, stones, muflon and snakes are respawning because they are areas people just aren't travelling through often enough.
I suppose that makes me partially to blame for there not being more iron or tarry spots spawning in, as I have traveled though those sorts of areas routinely while building roads and looking for the flat rocks and stones to build more, roads and wells.
But the good thing is, once those road networks are in place, those eight areas around the edges between the eight spokes, would have been avoided more often, as once people ran in any direction and found a road, they probably would have taken it to reach a destination of interest, sooner.
There are definitely places though that have become packed, at times, with respawns on top of respawns. The badlands are the most obvious of them, they just become packed with muflon, wolves, flat rocks, stones and flint, among other things.
And nobody called this person out?
Nobody tried to 'cool their jets' and remind them that people need to be shown kindness, and empathy, in order to see that that is how people are to behave?
What fucking psycho comes into the forum for a game about parenting, asking people how to kill their family?

That was my first post. I was convinced by this community within the first month of gameplay, that in order to get things changed, you needed to break them.
Yet, I never went on to trigger one apocalypse. Once I got back in game, and was picked up by my mom, how could I keep such a horrible idea in my mind?
It is a shame that that was my first post in this forum.
It is a shame that that first post, might have inspired others to do similarly horrible things, people like Tarr for instance, with his sword rampage that probably turned dozens of people away from the game on it's own. People we could have learned lessons from, people we could have loved, even if just for an hour, here and there.
It was a similar problem with people being given children at hard times, that decided rather than to care, and give their children the last shot at life that they had to offer, would sooner abandon their babies. Then that practice become abandoning boys, regardless of the state the family was in foodwise. Then players just started killing themselves, as babies, to cycle through families.
ALL terrible actions that should have never been seen as acceptable or even permissible, by the community.
But what did people do?
What didn't enough people discourage, before it caught on?
What lessons did we fail to bring, from our our experiences as children in the real world, into this game?
Instead of getting sicked by it, Jason just proclaimed it as "Interesting" and went on to encourage other "Interesting" behavior.
Imagine, if you will, Jason inviting all the girls in the neighborhood to one of his daughters birthday parties, and then raping, and killing them all. That's basically what he did to us. He fucked over the community he invited to play with his creation, and now he is killing this community.
And he sends me an email saying he's worried about me? Jason, I'm not the one finding it entertaining that people are killing their moms and children. You're a sick mother fucker.
Find that interesting.
I'm sure there are plenty of REAL psychologists and psychiatrists that would.
But you won't know they're REAL till you see them.
SICKO ![]()
Here Morti. Reminisce on this old post of yours. XXXXXXXXXXD
The is one of the problems with the drastic changes Jason likes to make to his games.
Something he just doesn't understand as a game designer.
People invest their time into making guides and strategies, coming up with collective ideas as to how to overcome the hurdles of existing dynamics.
WE, do that part, and WE become closer as a group for doing them together.
To just go and overhaul THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME just because people overcome one of those hurdles, doesn't just present a new challenge for people to overcome, it's hurts the formation and cohesion of the existing community that bonds overcoming those previous hurdles, who did so for the sake of people yet to come.
This guide, and so many guides that others players have made, have become near meaningless to the present state of the game.
I get why he changed the temp system, I get why he changed the pond and well systems (TIME AFTER TIME AGAIN) but what he needs to get is other people.
If he is going to make a game where people want to be together and care for each other, anything he does to hurt that, is going to hurt the game and it's ultimately going to hurt us as people, who would have prospered from the bonds we'd have continued forming as a community, INCLUDING HIM and his reputation as a game designer.
I mean, there are a lot of game designers out there that their community will do everything short of dying for, whereas the people who once cared for and trusted Jason, have left him. But at least he has 4 people in his life that mean more to him than anyone else in the world, right? I mean, that is a big thing, obviously, for any human being, to have REAL people in your life, and not just some NOT REAL people on the internet.
I'm sure if Jason had to solve the trolley problem, with his, what is it now? Something like 70,000 people that have bought One Hour One Life, on one track, and his wife and 3 kids on the other, he would, no questions asked, kill all 70,000 of us, for the sake of his family.
I think that is how little, he cares about everyone else in the world, at this point.
So, now this forum should become a lesson, for any future game developers that plan to put their work out for the public, to make and enjoy as a community.
You make a promise, you better damn well keep it.
Don't say you're going to make a game about parenting, and then just leave it about oil and murder for 6 months.
I'm sure it's hard for Jason to separate oil from parenting, when that's basically what he's told us his mother and father did just to afford him the luxury of being able to sit his big dopey ass in front a PC for long enough that he could figure out how to make a machine add 2 and 2 together, but there is a obviously more to life than fucking oil.
MOVE ON

IS NO FUCKING SUBSTITUTE FOR CONTENT!
Imagine if they had moderated Jason's post-Arc introduction rants by banning him from the forums.
something like that?
a damn iron shovel

Morti's amazing road system
I didn't make those roads alone. Nothing I have done in this game has been an original idea either, I just saw something a new player did, repeated it, and said "Hey guys, we should do this thing, too."
I didn't make the 3x3 farm.
I didn't make up temp locking.
I didn't make up being a good person.
I didn't do anything, anymore than Jason made a parenting simulator where he'd add 100 objects a week.
Nor did Jason make the 9000th murder simulator...
HE MADE
It was sad to see

PS The "Flint Chip Death Throw" in the title was the moment she was starving, trying to grab a berry from a bush, but realized too late, that she had a flint chip in her hand, and, as she threw the chip, she died.
It's a very common occurrence for new players, usually a result of picking up a needle or a piece of thread, and then forgetting they have it in their hand as they go to pick a berry. Sometimes they already have a berry in their hand and forget, but then when they go to pick a new one, they don't get that notification sound or see the berry disappear from the bush, and try to pick again and again, before they die, never even knowing that what they wanted most, was already in their hand.

Because you're not going to learn to be a mom, once you got the recipe for a diesel engine set to memory.
Your lust for steel will just lead to weapons that will turn people away.
In order for you and your kind to reproduce, Jason is going to need to rebrand the game for CS:GO kids;

Oh wait, kids like bright colors

a couple hooks and tag lines

a disclaimer

and we're good.
It's ok, the hardcore folks are turning away the ones that just want to play the game they were tricked into buying by the commercials, so, there will come a time soon where there will never be 35 players in the game, for there to be 35 eves.
Then you hardcores can fuck off, and maybe people who want to care for kids can play the game again.
if you are born my child, I want to care for you.
I want you to survive and have been born free, outside of the fences people think they need to make around their towns.
I will do what I can to get you clothed with what I know surrounds us, but it's not always easy out here.
Just know that I do love you; you are the opposite of a burden, you are a welcome respite from the duty I feel to bring the whole world together.
I want you to be sure you know you are welcome in my life, and I apologize if you don't survive long enough to help, or, find a town, to call your home.
If I have seen you, I know when you pass away, and I know most of the children born to be, while collecting stones and flat rocks, for the wells and roads, do not make it past 10 or so, most of you don't make it to old age, and I'm sorry for that.
I'm sorry that some of you have tried to start new camps, near the roads and wells that I was working on while you were born, and many of you have been killed by other players that do not understand what we are doing; trying to spread life, across the world. I admire that so many of you have offered to help me, and I am sorry I didn't manage to get some of you to the homes I told you I came from.
But some of you have worked with me till you did reach old age.
Some of you made it to my old homes, and had families.
Some of you went on to live in other towns, and your children were responsible for peace, between families.
--
I want to share with you, a vision I have, of our current situation.
When all the springs are wells, and the 8 branches of the roads are complete, I want to focus on making new homes, maybe so we have 8 good homes, maybe 16, maybe even 24....
Something like this, is what I imagine we could be capable of in the near future.

24 towns, all with multiple wells. Buildings centered between 2, 3 or even 4 wells, with farms surrounding places for people to store food, and clothing, and gather together, in warmth.
Then those towns can connect with their neighbors, perhaps, something like this.

but the towns can each be unique, to their inhabitants, each with their own layouts, tailored, to the biomes and availability of water, that surrounds them.
Right now, one thing is for sure though, we are not a lot of people. The numbers of us are dwindling, as they have in the past, and right now, 24 towns might seem like a situation we may never reach. Even with 100 people, that just leaves 4 per town, village and camp, and half of us, tend not to stay in one place for long.
We like to travel, we like to mingle, we like to see the changes of the world that occurred in previous lives. We like to see new places, and places we haven't been in ages. We have projects, across the map, and so we need to get around. We need speed, warmth and food, to accompany us on our journeys. And this is why I make roads and wells, this is why, in many lives, I have brought in dozens of horses, and why I have made massive milkweed farms, for lassos and carts. I'd love to make giant milkweed farms again, perhaps when the eight paths are complete.
I know there are still many places where there are 4, 6, even more piles of untouched soil, that could be turned into lassos and ropes, for carts, buckets and boxes, in far fewer lives than the roads and wells have taken, but the roads and wells are infrastructures, that will support those, and all sorts of your projects. Right now they feel a little more important than milkweed. Besides, some of you may want to use those patches of soil to start new farms, to bring life to to the small camps and to support families of your own, for as long as the world allows. I want to make that possible, for all of you.
I'd like, if you would help, make that possible, for everyone.
As I said, there aren't many of us left. 100, becomes 50, 50 becomes 25, and eventually, we're going to be our own grandmothers, and Eves, and we'll just take turns, being the mother and the child. Perhaps, before we are down to so few, we can make this place warm and inviting, where new and returning players, feel welcome, to work together, to raise families, and to share loving stories, like so many of us want to do, again, and again.
Thank you, children, for letting me pick you up, and hold you in my arms.
Thank you, for doing the same.

monument 19.08.06.01.03 EDT
center north could host a new city as well
I hadn't really explored much up there until today.
Problem at this stage comes down to a lack of iron for a typical start; need those axes and shovels for firewood and to clear stumps for working areas.
But it's good land, still a lot of natural soil deposits untouched along with some wild berries for a naturally replenishing food supply.
I see people have tried, in all the central north grassland locations, but there just isn't soft enough ground to get roots in, not to mention there aren't many people left playing the game at all.
just stop using that word
stop using it completely
you don't want this experience to be about that
stop making it about that

I, found the picture interesting because all of the little bears made me think of meat, food and warmth.
Things that any band of people, any little village, would make the most of, in the real world.
Yet, there was no one here.
No kids, to feel the warmth of the fur.
No women, to prepare the bears meat.
No men, to sit proudly by the fire, seeing their women and children, warm and happily enjoying the risk they took, to kill all those bears.
So many opportunities missed.
So little satisfaction, to be gained.
Then there is that bear outside, that, unlike us, can't be taught a lesson from history.
It's not so different from us though, the machines of instinct that we are; hurt, initially, by a broken promise, we live on to destroy that which brought about our displeasure.
Have fun, kids.
With whats left,
have fun.

Because the stars are gone.
