a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I thought it'd be a helpful little story in light of the intellectual property issues the game has been having. But-- I guess it made more sense to me than anyone else. I'm sorry. ![]()
Itsa name
I have NEVER seen locks used in a positive way. Also I hate stone walls. You should never make any building out of stone walls. Please.
I get the idea of locks, but they don't work in this game. They'd be a bit better if they didn't auto-lock everytime you closed the door/chest, and if the installation process was harder, not just slapping them onto normal doors and chests.
The fact that they autolock baffles me. A person without a key should not be able to use the lock.
It shouldn't be harder to remove a berry bush than it is to lock a door.
Getting locked in without a key should not be a thing.
That's the point of the chest, you cant just slap a shaft on it and drag it away.
I don't think most of the people "taking" tools I was using even realized that is what they did. It's not like they have my name on them.
Tools not being used will be picked up and used. It requires a surplus to have one hoe for the soup farmer and one for the carrot farmer. Same for the flint chip and round stone--
I do say "please return that when you are done" seems to work about 3/4 of the time.
i would lock up my car i worked for 90 min or so
or if i plan a marathon and some shit for next life but locks on buildings are bad idea
you can put more doors on buildings, you can put all doors, they are portable walls
how do you mean portable walls?
Can anyone tell about a time something good came of a lock. I played 4 games today and in two there was a locked stone room. One was ancient and couldn't be opened. My mom was in there and she died, it took like 20 min since she had some food.
The other, we got open by breaking the wall.

Locks are just for greifing.
Milkweed and wheat used to sit there forever... no longer.

Why does it matter if someone takes your stew-making supplies if you can just go get another bowl/plate/flint and keep working?
This is what I do now. I get or make another since there are clearly not enough.
The famous theorem on limit convergence and derivatives is called "L'Hôpital's Rule" in every text. Every text also generally mentions that, although attributed to L'Hôpital, the theorem was first introduced to L'Hôpital in 1694 by the Swiss mathematician Johann Bernoulli. Guillaume de l'Hôpital was a wealthy gentleman mathematician and wanted a rule to be named after him. Bernoulli needed money.
You should let the people who created Don't Starve know about this. I hate these kinds of half-assed games. Some of the time you buy one by mistake when someone tells you about a great game and you don't remember the exact name. Then it's something hacked together and hardly playable.
That happened to me with a puzzle game a few years back and now I do more research.
CatX that's really well put. I don't see how Jason is being unreasonable at all. And I guess what bothers me about all of this is the idea that there could be 1000s of players who think that someone else made the game. That seems really unfair.
But you don't have the right to make that decision. You gave that right away when you put your work in the public domain.
He can do it for the content in future updates. And, I think that would be smart.
There is no parenting, only communistic nursery.
Only if you choose to play that way. I ask my kids if they want to learn about what I'm doing and if they do I keep them with me as I work showing them whatever task I was on when they were born. I have taught the entire soup process in game, by having my toddler child copy each action I do so that together we make two pots of stew.
To do this is it key to have sliced bread and remember to feed the kid breast milk as long as possible.
The kids who I teach tend to live to old age more often.
I also make a point of finding my kids from time to time during life, bringing them a pie, or setting up soup where they are working or making clothing for them.
The pop-n-drop child quickly named and dumped in a nursery is a recipe for dead kids unless the child is already an expert. (not just "not new" but someone who knows more than I do)
suggestion to close the tap (pun intended ?)
F) from now on copyright internationally - all your content updates - (your action)
G) the mobile game happened but what will they have to do if they are not allowed anymore to update it with new content you provide for free ?
i'd guess, if they go legally, then they have to make their own content, this means the game will develop in different directions if they are lucky, if they mess up, then the game becomes slowly unpopular because they don't have a creative genius in store (if they had, then they didn't need your public domain open source in the first place)
they can oc still pull their copyrigt infringement act (their reaction)
This is a good idea. I get the objections to intellectual property, the laws aren't really designed to protect or help artists, however, I don't think that means that artists should just go without protection at all or shoot themselves in the foot. You are working in a broken system refusing to use any of the small advantages you have won't really change that system. Protect the new content. Require approval for new art and assets. Go after low quality games that don't listen.
We all want more people to create and build off of existing good work, but too often it's just vultures who make lower quality knockoffs or see those who avoid protecting their creations as fools who deserve to be plundered.

This is so true in real life as well.
I'm doing IVF right now and this is fucking me up.
Don't wait till you are 38 to have kids, young ones.
CrazyEddie wrote:Infertility comes from short-run declines in player population (i.e. people logging off for the night), not long-run declines (i.e. fewer people playing this week than last week). In the long run birth rates stay the same no matter how many or few players there are. What changes is the number of towns alive at any one time.
Maybe what you're seeing is because of the temperature changes. If you're not keeping as warm as other people, you'll see a big drop in your own birth rate.
I had that problem today, and I realized too late, there was even a note on the ground about how the smith needed to be moved from being on the edge of a desert biome, so I had yum chained somewhat but I'm sure my temperature was just terrible, should have spent more time inside by the fire. It turned out my fertility mattered more than someone manning the forge.
OMG we were in the same town again. It's super-tempting to start an invite-only server for chill yet schooled players like yourself.
"an app that would have given us a bad reputation, and open the playing field for copycats to take the name"
Seems strange you are concerned about this. The point of it being open is that more people get involved. Further I don't think people will think "unofficial" means that you stole anything. I have the mobile app as well and it was not clear to me that it wasn't a part of the original game. I still would have bought it either way, but I feel mislead.
Why did it matter that she took the stone if you could make the shears without it?
I like all of these but stacking the wet bowls, which feels like it might not work in real life but I could be wrong.
This thread is like digital Cain and Able. Who is getting killed? The farmer or the Shepard?
I'm still experimenting with the visualisation but I'm pretty happy with it. You can see migration trails sometimes, scattered with faint spots marking the births of abandoned children.
This is lovely! is the scale changing? why is it pulsing? Is this the "eve spiral" ?
I doubt cavemen talked about numbers. Earliest sightings of number usages were from almost 4000 years ago or farther back, we never know.
You could though try to say them in short like "thirfour -fifseven" for x: 34 y: -57 for example. Perhaps use roman numbers like XXVI which is 26, XIX is 19 and maybe like seven- XIV for 74. Always remember that high valued need to be drawn first,
X = value of 10
V = value of 5
I = value of 1
IV = value of 5-1
VI = value of 5+1
Though for better understanding I think discord communicating might help, although not everyone is able to have both in process (Me included)
I'm all over this.
That many people stopping working to do the trial could kill many towns IMO. I don't see how there is enough time. Who would be growing the food and cooking the pies during the trial?
