one question
how much good experience do you yourself have with raising multiples ?
instead of seeing only your view of the situation, look at it from the opposite side
- - -
i don't hate any kid or any player in this game, i am trying to rear all my kids meantime to the age of self-sufficiency
but in general nearly all my experiences with multiples are bad,
either they died right away, or they all ran away after self-sufficient & did not contribute to the town or they died after one of them died, or they were at the very least obnoxious or even outright griefing
OHOL is basically not a coop game, it's a multiplayer
what players like you attempt to do with twinning/coop is, to press a private session of coop into a multiplayer game, those just are different rules to play
coop doesn't support the multiplayer aspect, it interferes with it
- - -
...
lets be real, 90% of you who never kill, cant even defend a camp from griefers
i kill extremely seldom, that's a difference between killing as a rule & never killing
i am not a pacifist, but to kill in this multiplayer, where players spawn randomly somewhere & where it belongs to the core mechanics of the game that you don't know who you're playing with, plays into the hands of griefers, who can hide easy but also prevents players from realising what's going on at all
add to that, that i am playing vanilla, means no awbz info & no zoom & the life gets pretty hard to live already on itself
& not every player is using mods & not every player is on discord while playing
in fact, if i realise that a player is roleplaying, chatting on discord while playing, twinning, using awbz to manage the game, then i am out, cause i see all that as cheating & destroying my gameplay
& there is no value for me to play with players skewing & actually destroing the gameplay in those ways
and you totally think that healing a griefer is good, stabbing the player who kill the griefer is good
someone who is mean is bad
and on a fair duel, when both of you got weapons you would lose anyway
people kill & curse often not because they know what they are doing but because they want to get on with their life, without much thinking
where you see conviction i see confusion
players have seldom the knowledge what's going on at all & curse the wrong players, heal the wrong players & let die the wrong players, yes that happens
but as often happens also that they realise what's going on & kill & curse the right player & heal the right player
so, there is no reason for any panic
- - -
if Joy Star is getting cursed instead of Joy Star II, that's not the problem of the curse system but the problem of the naming system
Jason has to revise the names sytem
eg players given only the first name cannot be cursed at all, they get away with griefing because they don't get cursed
it's a heavy exploit
& all those II & III & IV & so on is the stupidest way to solve the problem with repeating names
in a community as small as ours there shouldn't be any repeating names,
the same name given to a child at the same time as there is already someone with such a name, should be given just a similar name, there are enough names on that whitelist
- - -
i've been today to a newish town & someone was building there a tool shed
it was not very well placed, but what building in OHOL really is ?
it was not a big house, probably 3x4, it had two doors on one side, several boxes to keep the various tools more organized
it is probably one of the good ideas one should keep as an OHOL staple
- - -
you've forgotten one basic point - backpacks
backpacks are the life saver in many cases
without a backpack you are not an efficient worker
everybody who has no backpack will be having problems to stay alive if there are food shortages & as you described, those happen fast
- - -
yes, but i don't need mass production cars
To be fair:
This systems forces me to let obvious griefers kill before I can fight them back.
how do you "fight back" in OHOL ?
lol
Otherwise I get cursed into nirvana
killed players rarely curse
already because one has only one curse token per hour played tops
And even more problematic is that Eve-chaining (even on empty servers) is not possible while in Donkey-Mode. This prohibits one from going above Eve-lvl and thus makes the game mostly unplayable.
either empty severs or DT
Eve chaining is not any objective of OHOL
DT is punishment & not a reward
curses don't make the game unplayable

as long the towns are dysfuncitonal is every fancy stuff just that, fancy "i am a bored player" temporary solution
also planes are far more practical than cars
by plane you hob from one town to another, thus wasting no time in between
the situation would change if the car would become a true transportation vehicle & not just a fast sports car to show off
a cargo plane would be probably the most optimal transportation option
the game lacks in many areas, mass production of cars is not really my main priority, sorry
rather production of planes & landing pads in every town ![]()

your score goes down while you play in regular game, as quoted
the high score is amounted by players who just can't get over the fact that players are killable in this game, so they kill repeadedly & get cursed repeadedly
to reach such a high score, which doesn't go down as easily, you have to grief run after run & get cursed a big amount of times
if you've never got to DT, then you worry about scores which are completely out your griefing league ![]()
why is this global life time score for repeated offenders necessary ?
to prevent the sitting out until the score goes down & then grief again the heck out of it
- - -
1. clickbait indeed
2. that's why i am repeatedly catching rabbits in towns & settlements
3. that's why i am repeatedly making about 6 new needles in towns
4. it's dangerous to give players the own backpack, because griefers, thieves, spoiled brats, ungrateful egoists
5. if you have to carry iron, stones, kindling, put four baskets into cart,
in the case mentioned it means you steal not only a horse cart but also four baskets ![]()
does that make you egoistic ? nope, you still steal it not for yourself but for your own kin
true egoists take it for themselves & only for them & for what they want to do alone, without care if it will benefit or hurt anybody else
- - -
you are mistaken
Curse Score
For every hour you play, one curse point will be removed from your score. But the time will only count if you have lived for longer than 10 minutes. So if you live for five minutes, that will not go towards decreasing your curse score, but living for 15 minutes will decrease your time by 15 minutes. Curse scores are global. So if you are cursed once on three different servers your curse score will still be 3.
so yeah,
decay is what you make it
you live uncursed & you'll never see DT
btw, i don't grief, never been to DT, been cursed few times but lived much more times uncursed, so no worries there
& even, if i should ever get to DT, i have no problems with being a childless Eve

a fine example of bad bakery space design
it might be enough functionality for a single player
but it's the overkill of dysfunctionality in a chaotic multiplayer, OHOL
an oven or kiln put directly under a wall makes it inaccessible from above
put near a corner makes the working space unnecessarily crowded, while the whole space remains empty
then two doors from side but not accessible from above & under
again, in a single player it might be enough
but in a busy town it's just a time waster
if you want to make this even more dysfunctional, surround that building with fast roads, no stop gaps on doors, lol
& then the nice looking idea of a fire "room"
i see immediately some mothers trying desparately to fit with their kids to that tiny room
why ? just why so little focus on the actual functionality of a bakery in a multiplayer game ?
what's the use of yum or warmth if the spaces are dysfunctional, stealing the limited in game time & making the production flow stuck ?
bad working space design
- - -
yeah, bad
griefers & killers get away with this
- - -
why does Jason not see that a craftable map & a craftable zoom would be a good thing for this game ?
i couldn't make such a journey like yours because i play vanilla
i can barely find anything in a town, but running into the wild is very dangerous for me with the narrow view i have
- - -
why do i never see pigs, dogs, and rarely see cows
I'm wondering why I almost never see pigs or dogs in a village, I get dogs have no use but even in really end game villages I don't seem them or do I see pigs which can make a pretty good food. For cows on the other hand I don't understand why they are such a low priority for people they have a lot of uses and give many food.
pigs are quite useless, people still mix up pork for mutton
pork is being used only for two recipes - pork tacos & dogs
dogs are indeed rather a griefing form than anything else
cows are not as useless as pigs for they give milk, which is quite nutricious
but they take up space with the bison needing a whole hour to disappear after being shot & that's mostly being done middle in the sheep pen blocking the already cluttered space with all the bones, dead lambs & poop
also how many know how to tend to a cow at all ? i don't ![]()
& additonally, buckets are probably scarce because milkweed is scarce & in a best scenario all the carpentry tools are scattered all over the place, in the worst, are broken & someone had to get iron first
also
the pens are still a pain in the butt to build
i will make pens after the basic production chains flow in towns,
atm it doesn't look like it will happen soon
- - -
probably none
because i extremely rarely spawn as Eve
also not the number of Eve settlements counts but if they can survive into future
in those scenarios is my help as kid or grandkid of Eve more important, because i usually am able to survive even if the conditions are harsh
this game is not about achieving goals
it's a social game, where cooperation & realisation where the bottle necks are is key
it's about being helpful where help is needed & that's hard to quantify
- - -
i always tried to be constructive, meantime with players working like mad on things which have no chance to function i suicide often
i think this makes also the difference
if i stay, i am helpful depending on what the town needs, there is usually plenty of work to be done & i can do lots of things fairly quick, so i am being helpful, no matter where i spawn
& if i suicide, then i am being helpful as well, because stupid set ups deserve to be forgotten & annoying players don't deserve my help & if other players around just don't care, then good riddance
if i stay in town till 60, then that was a good life & people were at least not jerks,
if i suicide before, then people were jerks & the town was hopelessly set up, so no real improvements could be made without others helping
or people were just that much of jerks, that even if i could help the town, i just don't
cause my RL time is precious, i don't waste it on idiots working in a social multiplayer game against my genuine efforts to be helpful,
muderers were months ago my main source of sorrow, but meantime it's the egoistic players who just work without any consideration if what they are doing is even helpful
just because someone tends to berries & saves every berry bush doesn't mean it's helpful while i am trying to get hold of the whole farm by making it functional & not just let it spread wider & wider
removing berry bushes from a huge & proliferating berry farm is probably the most thankless job ever, i do it only from time to time, because it's a very frustrating job
players are constantly putting soil on bushes i am working on to remove, it takes time & in that time frame those busy bodies just do their mindless stuff again & again
i would even go as far as to call such players griefers in disguise of helpfulness
so in the different time length i live per life, the first thing i am trying to examine already as baby is if the town has at all a chance to be made a bit more functional by me & if the people seem to be reasonable
there are lives where i suicide right away as baby, because the people are doing morronic stuff, so no use for me to waste my time trying to work against them
then there are lives where i have a chance to improve things & am working already on them but all of sudden one player or two are extremely rude & inconsiderate, i then suicide right away, no matter if i am male or female, even as the last girl, i will suicide, cause the best thing i can do in such scenarios is to remove myself from the space of those players
i would be happy if i could mark players as extremely rude to never again meet with them in game, from time to time i curse them, but i don't even waste my curse token on every annoying player, some don't even deserve to be cursed
the game is meantime quite complex in social interactions & it's hard to tell if someone is being helpful or not but there are signs, the more experienced a player is & not a griefer by will, the quicker they can realise what a town needs
but all efforts can be made nil by players being obnoxious & inconsiderate
do those players make also a difference ? yes, a negative one
they are the next gen griefers
being antisocial is meantime being a griefer because OHOL is a genuine multiplayer, where players have to play constructively together or at the very least not stand in the way of others working
- - -
lol, well done ![]()
i especially like the carnitas ![]()
some comments :
Stew Farmer
Water management ? [strenous with newcomen pump, kerosine could be already too wide to handle alone]
Compost [Maker]
Sheep management ? [too boring to do alone]
[Pie] Baker [hard since others barge in]
Berry management ? [is like herding a sack of fleas]
Tool smith
Rubber Maker
Horse collector [temporary]
Iron gatherer
Branch and Kindling supplier
Woodsmen (chopping and collecting but logs and firewood)
Trapper
Tailor [defined too narrow]
Chef (cooking specialty foods) [too wide, has to be broken down]
Burrito Barron [Tacos as well]
Tech smith [can be thrown together with tool smith]
Builder [nope, needs town planner]
Rock gatherer
Wood smith (making carts, buckets, boxes)
Nurse [not enough to do]
Baby teacher (assistant to the nurse who gives babies tours)
Wheat, milkweed and carrot farmer [wheat farmer goes together with compost maker]
Supply runner [?]
Bone and junk removal [probably a boring job, even if it's expanded to undertaker]
additional jobs :
Fisherman
Potterer
Milkman
...
also
every of the workplaces would need an actual place with enough space to work properly
we have atm extreme mismanagement, it's really like Babel i imagine
& space problems, missing tools, missing skill are the things that had to be improved
i will make an own Jobs thread
...
specialization would require communication
yeah, that's why i suggested a craftable info board
that would be communication not in a direct manner with speech
but i still think it would be used because some sort of management of settlements is needed
...
also people tend to build ovens in random locations, then before you could say anything they put down floors and put walls around it
yep
see that everywhere
not enough space to handle all the future load but already putting boards around no matter what
same goes with kiln & newcomen pump, which is not even destructible & stands often somewhere middle in the way of something
i've been now to some towns, where i just suicided cause improvement was impossible anymore, people have made houses with stone walls, completely dysfunctional, small, narrow, next to fast roads, meandering roads between doors, have even built those dysfunctional things further as i was there
i am trying at least to do some minor improvements like putting a stone foor on crossroads, on tile with door
but some towns are just to run away from
if people additionally are there obnoxious or rude, then i sure just quit ![]()
unrelated: is it the case that you can recycle a chisel even after you use it a bit? If so, should we recycle all chisels before they break to save 1/2 iron?
it's too much to bother
much more important is to collect all the broken steel tools
i wish all players would learn, that bringing broken steel tools to forge is a good thing to do
- - -
did suicide now after born into the Jo lineage ![]()
i will from now on suicide in 3 additional cases !!!
1. if there is someone with a crown
2. family with the surname Skyles
3. if there are people without a surname
i've been killed today by a "queen" with several knives in backpack
but i couldn't even curse her, probably because she didn't have a surname, how lucky for the player to have found an exploit
she lived a long life & killed several other people
her ancestor Eve had the surname Skyles
so from me 3 suicide causes more to all those cases where i already suicide because of egoist players
if your lineage dies it might be that i just suicided & didn't want to help you, because your town was just not welcoming
cause i am not going to spend my RL time with your forced roleplay
& if similar incidents happen, i might even reconsider ALL roleplay cases
so be aware - if you roleplay, i might be your only daughter who would otherwise survive
but maybe your roleplay is anyway more important to you than the lineage
- - -
there is no correlation between the size of a town & griefer occurance
as others have stated
griefers are everywhere
there is only one obvious correlation
the higher the number of people the higher the probability of griefers
- - -
@Spoonwood
maybe you just troll here, stating some irrational stuff to wind us all up ![]()
