Pulling the scab off with the bandage isn't a gradual change.  What you've said implies "boiling the frog" as stupid, since such is slow by definition.

Worse you don't seem to give a damn that it dehumanizes you personally.

Right, so it seems openly implied several times over that the game designer used misleading ads at best since "content is still a few weeks away", and Mr. Rohrer's claims of "I'll do such later", when such could get put off indefinitely AND when such is completely incompatible with 100 new objects every week as talked about in an advertisement before the game reached the market.  Again, get your head out of the sand.  Someone using such manipulative tactics doesn't deserve much.  Not your time, nor anyone else's.  No one should be on such a person's 'side'... not with respect to a game that had misleading ads (and if much of the game industry is like that, then gamers should NOT be on the side of game designers in general also).  And people walking away from the game permanently and not looking back is a step in that direction.

Irony is telling others Jason doesn't deserve their time.....yet devoting all of your time to Jason.  It's fun to mock you doug.

Spoonwood wrote:

If this game is to get more attention from people watching videos (Jason hypothesized this as the cause of two increases in player count that happened last winter), then it needs to look like an interesting game to watch.

I have looked at some of the old videos from before the temperature overhaul.  The first effect I will note concerns the temperature bar.  No matter where one goes it dances around so long as the player moves.  A similar same sort of dance happens inside of buildings these days near fire, or passing from outdoors to indoors or vice versa.  But, that dance happens in fewer places.  Characters journeying outside of towns would have that dance going on rather consistently.   And the indoor heat dance now seems narrower than before the temperature overhaul, as getting to a burning temperature doesn't occur as much.

I also saw a family living in a small desert between a grassland and a jungle.  Two horses trotted around in the desert!  Who lives with wild animals like that these days?  My eyes see a rather consistent pattern of farms for people playing these days.  Farms are in grass.  But that's nothing dynamic like a horse trotting around wildly.  Or a snake or a boar around.  Or mosquitoes doing their mosquito float.

Personally I remember hunting lots of boars as an Eve under the old water system.  Often enough your family would have its farm in a swamp before the pump overhaul.  Thus, I suspect, the pump overhaul, though I do think that it changed pumps in an interesting way, with its introduction of springs, made blander environments a more common sight.  Springs have made the game less visually appealing in another way.  Before the pump overhaul, one would see things like a shallow well next to a deep well.  Or a pump next to a deep well next to a diesel water pump.  But now?  Now it seems like you're lucky to see a pump next to a pond.  And there's fewer possibilities that you can see if you were to watch a video at random.

In one video I also saw a seal in a grassland.  That's kind of interesting.  How did the seal usually acclimated to snowy environments, survive in the grassland?  I do remember things like out of biome mosquitoes, but it could be interesting to see a wolf moving around in grass, even with the increased danger of something like that.  But, such danger from nature can provide interest in the form of challenge, though it can also be annoying and seem too unrealistic.

There's also less tundra, desert, and jungles on the map relative to other biomes since the topopgraphic map change occurred.  Players probably see funny penguins less often.  Same goes for those dynamic trotting horses.  I guess players do see more bison, but still that's fewer moving animals than seals, penguins, horses, snakes, and mosquitoes.

And more recently with the introduction of the hideous dropsy, players probably see animals and other interesting things like bananas less often.

As a counterpoint, I suppose malachite and sand pits came into existence.  But, the increase in resources doesn't seem to have quite the same effect as seeing horses trot around.  Or those out of biome animals did.  And though jungles got more interesting with sugar cane and peppers and tomatoes, it's less likely that a new observer to the game would see those plants than before.

Watching television would probably be less appealing for most people if people switched from color television to black and white television.  So, why the hell does there apparently exist a pattern across many updates which causes the diversity of surrounding environments of characters to decrease?  Doing such doesn't make things more beautiful.  It just consistently makes things more bland.

People ruined this game.  Can't play how you want without the 20 regulars joining up together to curse you.
Then why even care about long lineages anymore, when there isn't any goal.  If in 20 gens you have now maxed out all possible tech, why bother when all it is, is maintenance at that point.  I would suggest just taking this original OHOL out of commission and playing one of the other versions, that have more tech.  Why even bother with this one anymore?

You seem to have assumed that he did think he could do that many every week.  I just don't find that likely.  The old-art style promotional video comes from November 18, 2016: https://archive.is/SMVJA, which is 15 months before the game got released.  There's already a sharp stone, and a cut sapling skewer in it, and both of those are craftable objects.  Mr. Rohrer also had something like 12 or 13 years of development experience at that point in time.  And each craftable object takes art work and coding.

Really, I think it's reasonably to ask if there's ever been a single week where Mr. Rohrer did add 100 craftable objects that particular week?  If there wasn't what sort of basis did he ever have for thinking that he could do such on a regular basis?  And even if there was one week, so what?  That's still not much of a basis to conclude that 100 craftable objects could get made every week, correct?  And again, Jason wasn't a rookie game developer in terms of time spent developing games.

Again, it just doesn't seem likely to me that he thought he could make 100 craftable objects every week.

Destiny's idea is perfect, I love that idea.  The last life I've played there were 5 AFK people (including my mother) and people become hospice workers rather than actually having any enriching life of their own.  We should also be able to move these people somehow, since they are usually in front of an oven.

Spoons interactions in real life.

Friend: Man, the weather is crazy!

Spoon: 'man'  are you assuming my gender!  To suggest I am a man without first asking me about my preferred pronoun takes away my autonomy, you are violating my rights to choose to the gender I want.
'The weather' first of all, generalizing all weather is wrong and you are ruining the institution of weather as a whole by making such grand generalizations.  Next time say 'the rain' or 'the snow' and be very specific otherwise you are wrong assuming one would even know what specific weather you are mentioning.
'Is crazy' is extremely insensitive and an outright attack on the institution of weather.  You perceive the weather to be crazy, when such assumptions cause irrepairable harm, and offends every person that is currently diagnosed with a malady on the DSM-5.  You as a person are wrong for making such a crass statement and goes way to far.

Can we just consider the fact that the characters we play in one hour one life were never explicitly stated to be human, and likely wouldn't be human due to the fact that their reproductive functions are nothing like ours?

Spoonwood, you are equating uncontrolled births to our own when it would actually be more like Asexual Reproduction which a number of animals on Earth use.

Try telling any of the species in that article how unnatural and gross their reproduction methods are, and how it is bad and should not exist for them. If they were intelligent enough to understand you they'd probably be offended.

For a society that only knows of and experiences asexual reproduction uncontrolled births would be completely normal and no one would be uncomfortable with it in the same way any animal that reproduces this way wouldn't.  To these people the idea of sexual reproduction would likely be completely alien and even more repulsive to them then their reproduction methods are to you because it doesn't even exist in their world. They'd probably find the idea of getting to choose whether or not you give life to your next of kin with the same disgust as you view their inability to choose.

This leaves the question of why we still have the same sexual dimorphism in the form of men and woman. In this case there wouldn't even be males or females because sex doesn't really have a place in a species that reproduces asexually. What looks like men and women to us is likely just two distinct castes of this human-like species sort of like what some insects have. One caste is born fertile, and the other is born infertile which makes it focus entirely on labor to provide for the colony.

There I just described the biology of our characters in the game. Make it canon.

I like your thoughtful response.  Now if other people could stop trying to 'one up' each other about who has the most knowledge in mental illness (let's not kid ourselves, we know it's me) and let spoon live his life.  It seems like he's taking his own advice and stepping away from the game-forum-discord.  Which I think is a great idea.  Self care is important, and it seems like spoon knows that this game puts him in a fragile state (based off his own words of 'I need to protect myself from this game).  The style of communication here is exactly why I loathe forums.  There isn't a way to have honest dialogue when you have to react, then wait for god knows how long before you see a sentence you don't like...then react again.  Seems stressful.
