The justice scale I use is acknowledgment of wrong doing, apology, small task e.g. (fill one or beri bowl, fetch basket of carrot or mutton), surrendering of weapons, exile, execution, and lastly curse...tbh tho exile is terrible because it just creates a raider.
Could toss in confinement in there however thats not my style, smith could run jail? lulz
this post is not about smithing its about justice actions and property items contained in the city limits belong to the village not the person.
the person doing the smithing or w.e. is its guardian if the guardian is corrupt remove them.
nit picking the analogy does little to further the discussion..next pls
tbh the smith has every right to deny a request per his judgement and he controls the smith and his judgement calls on justice should be backed by the guard if there is communication between the two....
the lowest form of justice action would be observation and the most severe would be capitol punishment. there is spectrum of justice.
and before you say observation of a counter-survival action isn't a justice action...do you slow down when a cop is driving behind you? i bet you do. observation and presence are big part of maintaining order and function within the city.
We can build the cities but can we maintain them? Short answer not without guards, not without justice and certainly not without communication...period.
yeah roads might not be worth the effort i do a marker set first like every fourty tiles as a guide so if you running north south can hit east west markers and orient to city....eventually once people notice its a unfinished road may do some work on it.
yeah man you do mad work pein time and time build something to be lost if we can orient and preserve maps we can totes reseed old cities.
Maybe make navigation outposts too seed with maps maybe a standardized key set for map outposts? so not easily griefed so those in the know can be like oh ill pack D J key set for map outpost if i hit it...stock it with paper and pencils and black dye the more maps we trash around the more likely to stumble upon a useful one.
imagine doing multi-generation migration as a nomad family to super distant old cities its possible hard but possible. Living on the road isn't that bad with a cart and some knowledge. I can easily sustain a six member family.
if you find yourself in a town with a lot of loafers no food and random violence...time better spent locating ruins or pristine abandoned cities.
The towns I describe are unlawful ones avoid them and found new cities if possible or if male or infertile can leave maps and relocate lost work.
Much work gets lost efficient to find old cities left in good condition and even good salvage in old ruin city. So maps and roads are pretty high priority on my list of to do. Anyone care to connect the dots with me in game not on fancy map dump.
fair the argument isn't about the damn hoe forget the hoe. loool anywho this is nuanced subject more brain storming than actual well thought out post i got some good feedback tho thank you to those that replied.
some good points raised be it off topic about restricting hoe access to slow farming and reduce water consumption during newcomen stage it's a valid ponit tbh....I prefer to fill cisterns and get way ahead on the water running the newcomen pump constantly and roaring at smith's moar coal, lol.
I erred in making complex post I think more basic info be more useful. i.e. profession write ups.
that is hilarious i must live a life of a manchild in mama's arms....adding that to OHOL bucket list looool. does that mean i have to be spoon fed once mom is old? oh man that is rich
Don't get caught up in the analogy of the smith and the hoe this isn't about the smith specifically or beef with them in regards to not getting a hoe lmao.
Murder is unlawful by justice I mean action taken by village to restore function killing is included in that however it is not murder if done lawful.
murder is specifically the UNLAWFUL ending of a life....prisoners sentenced to death are not murdered they are executed. So yes killing can be an extreme justice action. It could be hey we want a new smith....then guy gets but hurt starts agroing or won't step down when asked so yeah then you kill em.
seriously tho the smith story was just meant as a parable obviously there are etiquette and manners involved when getting the smith to make you a hoe.
the major point was the village can take action against an unhelpful professional i.e. a smith indifferent to the needs of a village and continues making his car or some other non essential while essentials are needed.
tbh a good smith makes back up tools in baskets and keeps em stocked so that trumps all arguments in regards to the analogy.
Fair there may be mechanical limitations to a solo smith doing engineer work. I didn't necessarily mean to throw shades on the skilled smiths around OHOL I'm certainly not one of em. Perhaps the example was lacking.
My point was more along the lines of the need of the community should be served by those using community property and facilities.
Thus if a guy needs a item crafted for all intents and purposes necessary to the function of the village those with the capacity to fulfill that requirement should do so, else the village should take some action to administer justice.
TBH I often find it difficult to obtain even the most basic of help action to obtain higher tech...usually a piece of a cart har.
what never gambled at the hearth? woll you fer you sick hat bro Kappa
a hoe takes like two seconds to make...if you're burning down forests at least make the woodsman a hoe to replace what you burn. With corn cows and stew you can make duck pond water last a long time.
Also can make another newcomen pump hundred tiles away there is no reason to rush kerosine.
just a thought on resource consumption...if the town needs something i.e. a hoe or w.e. and you go to smith and some guy cranking out pipes or smithing and he doesn't make the hoe...he is not working for the village and should be removed and replaced. just my two cents
tech will never advance if every life you piece meal a job i.e. smith just to make that damn hoe the village needs to eat
Also I've found people are indifferent to trade so a forced in game mechanic to make trade part of tech tree is a good change imo. People usually just end of giving me what I'm after rather than transacting the trade tbh.
On one of my exploration runs as an old woman I found a town. I collected a horse brought it to town as trade and the town killed me because they assumed I was making horse to grief or w.e.
Was pretty disappointing just axed for giving town a horse. Where as now if I roll into town with a horse they gonna be willing to trade for that quite valuable horse.
At what point will horse become interactable by other specialties? tamed horse? saddled?
I like it enforce a culture on the races. We as players will adjust. So vets means we gotta spread the word write notes in towns explaining culture mechanics. i.e. Hey we're desert specialist we trade horses for rubber or w.e.
Make it part of your child rearing spiel "hello child we're desert people, mau dib! We collect horse dye fine cloth and make snake boots.
Plenty we can do as players to adjust. Also make roads and maps more valuable. Start exploring and connecting towns without trade civ won't last long.
edit - Honetly I've heavily influenced eating habits by prominently displaying soup and efficient foods. When I don't cook my fitness drops tbh. Pie gobbling is convenient and any bebe who grab pie gets scolded by this eve tbh and even tk'ed.
I've have been attempting to explore and connect towns and ruins on a few lives, but when I don't cook the civ suffers ironically.
Honestly do inventory of village and you will find something that needs done...start with food. A lot of food means someone cooked recently. Missing tools? smith some. No discs? Go saw some butt logs. No drilled disc? go flint tipped bow drill etc. Food and wood are the foundation of the civ so start there and work up the tech tree.
Doing a water food and tool inventory when I spawn is usually my road map to wtf needs to be done.
i preferred the smaller rift environment faster action and concentrated player locality made it much intense imo.
you'd be surprised how many death are player inflicted. beri famines are cause by other players...bear attacks caused by other players. rarely does the food supply break down without malicious intent behind it.
yeah plant em close together so they have to dig stumps to get to the rest as well. i especially like going ham as a kid on pine tree forests lol
I believe I handled it in game. I erred in thinking I would find support from the mods and the edge lords in the OHOL community.
Can we lock this thread now? It's gotten ugly.
fug have you been playing on the arc? its a warzone man. I'm not fighting over the resources but griefers attack the water. they attack the buckets....they attack the food supply...they attack the well.
Have you considered griefer are using the curse mechanic against competent players? because they are......
if you are countering a players grief you get cursed...
yeah something like that right now curses just feel meh like i get cursed for guarding towns its awful.
and if we fight for said resources we get cursed to donkey town? If we protect resources we've claimed we get cursed to donkey town. I mean the whole curse mechanics need a rework imo.
i mean at least let donkey town players play together even if you run into an eve you can't talk. Why not allow donkey town eves? and build our own cities on the dark side of the moon i'd prefer that tbh.
that way you get like hardcore pvp on donkey town and then the sheep can chill on the main server. also added benefit you wouldn't be spawning new players and the cursed players could do their own thing and tech up towns there or w.e.
why not change curses to remove a life and then when out of live you go to donkey land and if you wanna spawn donkey town can just suicide to zero lives.
are you using one life plus? Pressing H with the chat window closed will hide all people if you are.
and tanks found behind bear caves lol
the world goes on. Guy robs water I pump from newcomen pump like I care dood its about getting the water out of the ground go ahead use it. lol Way i see it two camps on server those keeping it alive and those wanting to kill it.
it's easy don't work for evil towns...if a corrupt town forms find an eve start camp or find the other town. It can be real tough taking back a town from an organized prepared group.
Honestly I'm fine with having players police it as players, it can be bad for the community is all. I'd like to see OHOL get bigger and avoid a bad reputation.
