Honestly had no idea that /die reset the birth cooldown, (probably one of the many changes that happened while I was on hiatus). Are we sure that's a thing?

#177 Re: Main Forum » We need your help for the PIES 2.0 Mod » 2019-05-09 00:52:05

Hmmm...okay, here's my last suggestion. What if you changed the cuts? If we assume that the pies are perfectly readable when full, let's try to keep them as close to full as possible. Your first bite would take 1/8. Then the next bite could take another 8th (so you don't have to make a new 5/8 pie sprite and can reuse the 3/4), or maybe a fourth (to make it slightly more readable but you'd have to make a 5/8 pie). Then after it's half gone, you're only missing 1/4 of the pie (or 3/8). After your third bite, then you would have just the quarter left you normally would, but it would have the letters of whatever pie it was (C, B, CR, C B, CRB, ect.)

That's all I got, good luck with it!

Personally I like them bare most?

I mean, not really...Maybe do like Jason does with salt water and draw a letter on the plate. R, B, C, or any combination. It shows up the more you eat the pie.

#179 Re: Main Forum » We need your help for the PIES 2.0 Mod » 2019-05-08 23:44:39

In all honesty, it looks pretty good as it is. It's almost easier to tell what each pie is from a distance based on the plate, than it is the actual pie.

#180 Re: Main Forum » We need your help for the PIES 2.0 Mod » 2019-05-08 23:40:42

So what exactly is the problem, lack of visibility? Instead of doing rings, you could have horizontal or maybe even diagonal bars. I don't know if that would compromise the aesthetics of it. I feel like horizontal lines would be the most visible, but then it'd probably look like a flag.

Does winning suggestion get access to the tiny tree mod? tongue

#181 Re: Main Forum » Should suicide be limited? » 2019-05-08 15:29:34

Yeah, I agree that this issue is just a side effect of other problems. But I disagree that the main issue is that you cannot choose where/how you want to play. I feel like that is also a side effect. But it's definitely a hard problem to solve, without basically gutting the core concept of the game.

How did you get two hours? If I'm not mistaken, they need to be hit every half hour at most and 59 minutes at least.

My mistake.  It becomes rickety in 30 minutes, and you need to hit it every hour to keep it from falling.

So, once a lifetime, you run around and keep the fence alive.  I think the "labor" part of it might be that each piece of the fence is on a different timer, so you feel nervous about the part that just became rickety, so you check it constantly.

I could push it up to 1 hour until rickety, then one hour to fix it.

I feel like one hour until rickety would be enough. Like, once you hit it, you know that you'll never have to worry about it again (for the rest of your life). I don't see why you'd need a whole hour to notice it being rickety.

Yeah. Just giving ya a hard time, Jason tongue

Looking forward to when you finally have the time to work on the content bugs. I got a few that I have my fingers crossed for...

Jason, here are the results to a survey I did on the die issue from people in this forum. It has about 60 responses. Wanting to go back is up there on the list of reasons.

Yeah, I figured 20% would probably be about the percentage of people that /die for that reason. I would be very much against this "mom-picking screen", personally; as it really goes against what the message of this game. But it is always optional. I just think it would muddy the game, a bit, for the sake of a 20% fix.

I feel like you were closer with the whole "spelunky" thing. I think that's a great example, from an amazing game. I feel like that's more the direction to go in, personally.

#188 Re: Main Forum » Mini guide: Property sheep pen » 2019-05-07 10:10:54

So how would someone make something like the tiny tree mod? Is it changing the code? Changing the sprites? Kind of curious how to mod in general.

I really love the "StakeMeHigher" and "NowYouSee(d)Me" (even though this one is pretty much just for hot ovens, since most of these seeds are in bowls now. Which is still wonderful.). Maybe there would be a way to combine them. I would also like to try out this "Tiny Tree" mod, but I'm not sure how to reach out to MR.XIX (aside from hopefully catching him on the forums). And even then, there's no guarantee he'd let me use it if it's not openly available.

It makes me wonder how many other mods there are like the these, especially ones that people don't openly distribute. There isn't some place where these all can be found, is there? I find it unlikely, but maybe there is and I just don't know about it.

#189 Re: Main Forum » Engine builders: how can we support your building efforts best? » 2019-05-05 23:57:35

Yeah, pretty much just rubber is missing from the list.

I mean, you also need the area around the newcomen machine to not be all cluttered. So any help with that is always appreciated tongue

You could also make the lathe head ahead of time. It's easy, just a tied shaft with a blade.

For more stuff, just wait for master elitist pein to find this post. He'll type you up a four page document lol.

I only find it annoying when I'm standing there with a bowl of berries and carrot, waiting for an unshorn sheep to pop out a lamb, and some ninny comes along and shears it before I can say anything. You'd think context clues would make them stop and think "huh, this person is waiting for something. Maybe I should ask!"

Two separate sheep pens--one for bakers and one for clothiers--could probably help. Maybe? So long as they keep to their respective pens and don't step on each other's toes.

I feel like that's more to do with people's lack of consideration or awareness. Which is probably impossible to fix lol.

when is enough mutton meat, like 4 per each person then you don't need more, yet the pen should be fully packed so making 6 balls of yarn should be fast
i see this "dead lambs annoy me" but mostly from people who don't work with sheep
also i could keep up with the poop
just needs 1 wheat per sheep, and one compost per dung
then people use up soil for milkweed or saplings

the problem is that clothing makers create 12 dung with 0 compost and even move the poop
we can have smaller pens now,  or multiple small pens
and cooking the meat in oven is decent option
that meat can be eaten before berries

While this is true, it's also true that survival is easy for a veteran player. Hell, anyone can survive. Go sit in a wild berry field for an hour big_smile

And I don't know where this "enough" is coming from. You can't ever have "enough" food, technically. You will always need more eventually. But enough for the moment? That would depend on population and clothing, I suppose.

I wouldn't really know if most people that say "dead lambs annoy me" are mostly people that don't work with sheep. I don't really ask around, nor do I make assumptions. Speaking for myself, sometimes they are annoying, sometimes they are not. It depends on a lot of different things, but they definitely can be annoying. As a general rule, I prefer a nice and tidy work area. Which is kind of funny considering how the game usually is.

4 mutton is vastly appreciated if you also compost since you get 4 pies for one extra water

Either way, if food is so cheap that some people can ignore it for "Muh clean pen reee" we may have a balance issue

I just wanted to say that being a cock head and trying to arrogantly belittle people's opinions isn't a good look.

@spoonwood

I am well aware of what an atmospheric core is and what it's made of. So it's not the newcomen pump that's being upgraded with the kerosene wick, but the atmospheric core? I don't see why that is. I guess it has to do with the spaghetti code, so it's all above my head. And it's probably ignorant to say that it shouldn't be a problem, but I feel like that should be fixable. Maybe it's just not worth it.

#196 Re: Main Forum » stop shearing last sheep » 2019-05-04 18:07:10

Yeah, there is value. But it's so minimal and unnecessary. I'd rather have the trade off of two extra tiles in the sheep pen and the absence of that stupid sighing sound every time a lamb get hungry or dies.

Also, if I were to take a guess; you probably don't get it because you're the kind of person that doesn't mind working in a trashy environment.

#197 Re: Main Forum » stop shearing last sheep » 2019-05-04 17:56:27

Get that min, max shit outta here; "miss out on 4 mutton" lol. I'd personally rather not have all the dead sheep babies cluttering up the pen.

Yikes, you're right.  Fixed that.  Only wet pumps could be upgraded for a very good reason (this reason), but I couldn't remember the reason, so I changed it so that you could upgrade dry pumps.  Big mistake.

And what a nightmare this would have been..... people could have made pump wells everywhere, undercutting the whole point of the update!

Happy to help!

Although I still don't really get why. Seems like it would be something that could be fixed. Gonna really be annoying that you still can only upgrade wet pumps -_-

Onetech is not wrong as it always pulls the data directly from the code. This was a bug that existed when the kerosene pump was first added, and Jason had to change it so you can only upgrade the wet pump. If the kerosene upgrade recipe is on the dry pump that makes it so any newcomen engine can be upgraded into a kerosene pump. Jason probably just forgot about it when he was changing the recipe.

How does that make any sense? The "Dry Newcomen Pump" and the "Multipurpose Newcomen Engine" are two different objects. How does being able to upgrade the pump when it's dry affect the newcomen engine?
