Blocking 25 tiles in the center of the town doesn't feel efficient to me.
If you have a cart and empty buckets you can transfer water very fast. I feel like there is no point having more than only a few cisterns in the town that are actually used regularly and the excess of water having in a place that doesn't block movement and useful space. Transferring water from the water storage to main cisterns sounds more efficient to me and requires very little work (if we have cart and empty buckets) that has to be done really rarely.

Say what you want, but it works perfectly and it doesn't waste space, I will continue making cisterns with this kind of design in other towns too.

Had another life in blacks, actually 2 lives. They had kerosene, so I decided to make another well 300 tiles west (was first natural spring that I found, and was close to browns). Got all the water from shallow and deep well to the town, then upgraded it to kerosene newcomen pump. Got a few tanks of kero there and got lots of water from it. Sadly, was pretty unlucky and it got exhausted after only about 25 uses (while estimated number of uses is 41). Still got lots of water.

Then I went to browns give them 3 tanks of kerosene, they are pretty close to blacks, they have tons of rubber tires, I used them in my newcomen pump.
But when I went to their well, I was in shock. Someone made cisterns around the well. This looks really awful. Was it you testo, haha? big_smile

I made a little water storage place. How do you like it?

Seriously? I have trouble figuring out a worst design and location. For starters six of your cisterns can only be accessed from one tile. Second, it is completely out of place and third they form a wall. There should be a rule of never putting cisterns next to eachother.

There were 5 full cisterns inside the town, these that I made had to be for any excess water and not for regular use, that's why they are a little bit outside the town, to not block space and moving.
Once the cisterns inside the town get empty, someone could get a cart with buckets and get water from those wells and fill main cisterns, would take only a while and the benefit of this would be the space saved.
Isn't it a good idea? Would you prefer to spam many cisterns inside the town and block so much space?

Also, it could be a good strategy to not use kerosene on diesel water pump at all until near wells aren't exhausted (200 tiles away from main well).
We don't use newcomen stage wells out of town, because of how much work it would require to make all the charcoal, but upgrading these wells to kerosene newcomen and then using kerosene on them would be very efficient and would require very little work - of course if we have rubber tires. This would effectively double the amount of water we get from kerosene with just a little bit more work.

Imagine bringing back home cart of 8 tanks of water with 8 uses each in only one go - big water storage would be very useful then.

Yeah, having many cisterns is very useful.

I think it would be smart to have only a few of them in a town to not waste space, and make a real big amount of them just a little bit out of town, just for the water storage that wouldn't waste space in the town, so we could easily bring water to main cisterns from those whenever needed.

Linux version isn't supported as far as I know.

#183 Re: Main Forum » super bad problem: default vanilla zoom. » 2020-05-16 15:26:43

Yes, default zoom is horrible. I feel sorry for vanilla users.
Vanilla should have x1, x1.5 and x2 zoom, with mouse scroll.

Jason doesn't read forums lately, he won't see this topic.

Still a good update, thanks <3

Tho I'm excited that most of the time I will be the leader tongue
Just imagine being a king at 3 years old, this will probably happen from time to time.

#186 Re: Main Forum » Jason just gave us the biggest tool to protect from bobo. » 2020-05-15 22:23:37

I'm 9 place with 48.8 gene score. Had 52.25 game before, but this one life was unlucky I guess.
I never care about my relatives, I don't care if they afk, sometimes I even let my kids die if I'm too lazy to bring them home when I'm outside. I just always live to old age and work to leave my town a better place than before I was born.

Yeah, this may slow down Bobo maybe, but I will be surprised if he won't be able to kill a family for a whole week. Hopefully he won't be able tho tongue

I enjoy lives when I play with smart people. I also love cooperating, working together on the same projects.

You want to have allies, otherwise anyone could solo kill you.

I remember times where we had so little griefing. I could play a whole week and see no griefers.
I like the current state of the game, except for griefing part. We have too many griefers now, and they are effectively ruining this nice game.

#189 Re: Main Forum » New Iron System Boring; Old Iron System More Interesting » 2020-05-14 08:10:31

It is boring to you because you don't play on bigserver2. Infinite iron would be more boring.

tocal wrote:

I would argue that the new system makes iron more abundant, not less.

True, we still have technically infinite iron, maybe not infinite but there is more of it than we need. And that is because we use dead families' veins. It's easy to find dead villages because of dry natural springs mechanics, and once we find a dead village, we just check east and west from the well if there is still an iron vein, in many cases there is at least one.

#190 Re: Main Forum » grief at berg town » 2020-05-13 16:57:29

Perpetual leadership is great, up to a point when a griefer becomes leader. Defending against a tyrant is barely possible.

What would be the best you could do in this scenario?
I think fighting against griefers on your own isn't the best strategy anymore, I think it would be better if instead of trying to stop the griefer from making fences on your own, you went to the leader right away and asked them to stop the griefer. This way you would prevent yourself from being cursed and it would be up to the leader how this problem will be solved.

And what if the leader turns out to be bad and won't stop the griefer? Here is the part of leadership mechanics that should be improved by Jason in my opinion. Currently all you could do is redeem the leader and ask people to do the same and follow you, to make new kingdom, but this is technically impossible and would definitely not be fun, but only stressful.
Picking a new leader and kicking the current leader from their position (via voting or something) should be definitely easier.

I don't want to get paranoid. Yumming is always the best choice even when eating the least water efficient foods. I'll be eating anything that is yum.

#193 Re: Main Forum » Dry natural well sites and eve » 2020-05-12 15:38:57

What direction were you moving? If you were going east you were doing it wrong, since you could find only occupied areas there. Here is Eve spawn pattern https://i.imgur.com/48HSIcX.png.

Also if you have no home you stil get homesick if you enter other family's area.

I haven't been there but I see Moni's fam starved to death and not being killed https://wondible.com/ohol-family-trees/ … id=2979645.
152 generations, damn :P

According to what Jason said, birth changes come into effect mainly during server restarts, since during normal times baby/mom ratios don't exceed 1.0 anyways.
So maybe people actually get better tongue I can see they do.

After the food changes, I started following how long families can survive, it just became interesting to me.
Two weeks after the food changes a family made a record living 63 generations, other fams were dying much quicker.
Now, one month after the food changes, we are really kicking it. Garden's fam is already at 100 generation, and Moni's fam is at 138 generation, both of them still living, damn, that's crazy big_smile

I noticed, lately families help each other much more often, which is great, we don't constantly lack rubber tires anymore, and also kerosene can be seen more often in towns.

There is still large room for improvement, but we are getting better and better.
Keep the good work people tongue
