... and their kids can't be cursed. Is this how it should work? Shouldn't people with the same last name be in the same family? Especially if you adopt the child of a dead woman and raise that child?
the only problem i see is that you got mood to play, you will play
most people wont care just go in
now it's a difference between main hours and off hours
also if you limit to age 60 then those eves generally will be able to stay alivejason already said he will limit people in families to 15-20 people (the only issue there is older infertile people and males somewhat)
so the current system im almost good
sure is bad that only 2 families are there, but if the outposts get fixed and 5-6 families with a cap of 20 people souunds goodi think still would be technology limited pop, so everyone can eve but if they don't progress they wouldn't go far
it might still be fun to some newbees to have a population of 5 with a guaranteed 2 girls all time
I'm pretty happy about the 15-20 people limit too. Perhaps add this:
-The Eve box is default checked for new players (most won't mess with settings before playing)
-New players start the game with a gratis Eve token, so they have a chance too, and get more as they live to 60 more often.
-I am a game designer (Not professional as of yet, but it's always been a passion)
-Which is why I enjoy thinking about how to address issues in a game and then seeing what the dev chooses to do
-Naturally I'm thrilled if Jason uses my suggestions but I really just like talking about these kinds of problems it's fun
-I'm totally baffled by your response to my post TBH. Going off on me about paying money? Did I say anything about "I paid money so..." No. I had to re-read my post to see if it came off as someone who thought paying 20 for a game gives them the right to order the dev around. It doesn't. It's a proposal. One Jason probably won't ever read and that's fine. I just like to think of ways to solve the problem and I like reading the solutions others come up with. It's fun. Jeeez.
-You earn an Eve token by living to 60. You can earn one per day. They accumulate. If you are Eve your number of tokens resets to zero.
-In settings there is a box that says "play as Eve" if it's checked you will have a higher chance of being Eve if you have a token. No tokens no Eve. People with the most tokens have the highest probabilty of being Eve. But everyone with the box checked has a chance.
-You will only be Eve if the server needs one. If the number of families falls below some low number like 4.
-If you don't check the box you will NEVER be Eve. (why are we wasting Eve spawns on people who hate it?)
-Eves spawn 50 percent near other towns, 50 percent far from other towns to help provide variety in gameplay and to make the map more interesting.
That one cart I made, was more meaningful than the 8-10 I could have made
Sometimes spoon, being out of control leads to pleasant surprises
I agree. My best lives often didn't start out the way I wanted them to.
make it so we can dump em all in the trash pit.
it goes "mneaaah" what more do you want?????
Wheat is also like that. But one wheat gives you flour AND compost, so it's not as big of a deal. Something simple like giving milkweed a chance to regrow (not make it always regrow like in the past) something like 1/3 of plants regrow would go a long way to making it fun to farm and ease the rope crunch.
Otherwise having some rope higher in the tech tree would be great. Hemp plants that need to be boiled then twisted on a machine but they give you a whole lasso...
Someone had 55 kids?????
Ow my womb hurts thinking about that.
It's much better now than right after the change. IMO. Is there any data?
I think part of the issue is that more kids are being funneled to just a few women because the server isn't just making new Eves as often.
Hard isn't the same thing and boring grind-y and not fun.
Lots of hard things are super fun. Milkweed isn't hard it's tedious. There is a difference.
I generally like farming and spend a lot of time growing most everything else, but when you grow milkweed you get nothing for your efforts not even a hardened row that you can replant. It's not better than the wild version like berries where you get one extra berry, it's not like carrots which are amazing and grow multiples per row. You just get the same boring wild plant after having used up soil and water and they take forever to despawn if harvested incorrectly so you can't keep a farm plot going. Someone can clear it all out in a few moments. It's just annoying that growing milkweed can't be avoided.
When we have 1000 eves each day, we have a lot of weak lines. None of them have enough people to stay alive long-term. So they eventually die out from lack of girls. Fewer Eves means fewer families. Which means each family gets more people and can continue for a longer time without dying out from lack of people.
Agree. Towns and lines are much more healthy now and frankly I've been having some of the best games in weeks. Really making progress, even seeing how a town changes over time a little.
I do think we should aim for more than 2 families though. During peak hours maybe 6 or 7 over night only 2-3 might be around.
For once it feels like we are really building something that might last.
-the number of families on the server is based on server population. If it falls under server_population/15 new eves are spawned until there are enough distinct families
-Eve spawns alternate between spawning near existing towns and spawning on something like the old spiral. So you might be in a populated area or you might be a pioneer.
-of course once your town is established there is a chance half of the now much fewer eves would spawn near you...
-the total number of Eves for a day is capped at about 25... this is to keep people from re-rolling for a better spawn when the server population is increasing.
If we have a fixed number of families, do we spawn a new Eve whenever we drop below that level? Like, say we want 20 players per family, so we need 5 fams if we have 200 players. Or lets do 15, so it's 6 families for 100 players?
Just make it server_population/15. That is how many families there should be. That way if lots of people log on they don't get sent to already huge families, but when the server population drops you don't have baby droughts.
planting milkweed isn't fun-- there should be a domestic variety with a 20percent chance of getting string when you harvest. All of the other domestic crops are better than the wild versions. Milkweed is the same, but you are eating up soil and water.
I've farmed it often because it's needed. I collect it when I can. I still think it's just a grind in a bad way.
Even if it was hard having a way to make lots of rope would be amazing.
Imagine you are on a map with just one stack of wood, no trees, a diesel pump, oil well, refinery and a garden of all the main plants and sheep.
Can you farm trees fast enough to keep the fire going and make enough kindling to make more oil and cook pies etc.?
There are no branches. All your kindling must come from trees.
Cleaning up trash in town is so much better with this change. I have to say THANK YOU again.
Most people seem to have learned not to put fast roads near berries. But there is still the issue of the following:
-property gates
-doors
-entrances
-corners and junctions
You should never put a fast stone road near a gate of any kind. Someone will have to come back later and remove your sections of road and replace them with a stone floor or wooden floor. Don't make extra work for the future and save your kids from getting fed up with your gates and doors. Do not place fast roads in these locations.
If a road splits in two you should also put a stone floor or wooden floor at the junction.
Imagine how nice it would be if you could store a lot of wheat at one tile in the bakery, maybe next to it a bucket of water.
That would be amazing.
I think it'd be good if the number of families on the server were a function of server population. So if there are more people you'd get more eve chances, fewer people fewer chances.
*standing ovation*
I'm... I'm crying...
I can make an icecream cart at last!!
This is seriously going to make life so much better.
I like this idea. You both say "We are the NEW_LAST_NAMEs" while standing near each other and you start a new family. The kids could look like either parent...
I really like that the families are lasting longer it will be exciting to see of one of the new eves can start another. It's not like there aren't eves it's just a BIG DEAL if you get to be one. Make the most of it!
Pregnancy preview where the baby watches the mother's life for 20-45 seconds and she has a pregnant belly? People could use /die during that time and the mother isn't bothered, just a little disappointment about the bump going away without a kid. I think it'd be important to make the baby be born 45 seconds old to keep the wait time till you can play about the same for everyone.
The point of the reset is to replenish resources.
But old abandoned towns are so much fun to find and explore.
And overgrown abandon town sounds amazing...
