It's a little harder to play as female and get much done, but I think that's OK. This could be a very good change I'm interested to see of lineages last a bit longer now... Thanks for looking in to this issue.
I also like this update. I think the people using /die will calm down a bit when they realized they can't use it to become Eve anymore.
Cross post:
On the forums, Jason, you mentioned the problem of server load for having lots of generic storage.
Wouldn’t this be resolved if instead there were specialized storage containers (e.g. grain silo)? I believe(?) currently you use brand new objects for each element of a stack (e.g. bucket with 2 bowls of water => bucket with 3 bowls of water), however this is quite tedious.
Grain or flour storage could work just like water buckets. Great idea.
Well if jason can't add better storage tech I'll take stacking. I don't see the harm in using the crock to store more things too. Why can't it be filled with flour? why does baking have to take up so much storage space?
This is a simple change you are trying to fix deeper issues in the game which is fine, but I just want to stop drowning in clutter and having nothing to do to fix it. A table would be fine but it won't solve the issue with grain.
Decay would help with grain, but I'm not running around playing with dozens of bowls just to save the grain. That just isn't fun. Being able to be organized and bake a bunch of pies *is* fun. So if we get decay it need to be balanced with better storage for the items that decay.
Something as simple as making meat decay if not stacked would be wonderful. Or make a whole new host of items I don't really care. I just want the mess gone.
Not hard to have a list of things that don't ever decay, so I could do that with stone walls, at least.
Having some things remain would be amazing and give the map more life especally if you have trees groing inside of buildings and such.
Let floors decay, but not walls, paper, kilns, pumps or tools.
I don't see how simply having more things stack would hurt anything!
It'd be nice if pies stacked like iron. A lot of time people use baskets for pies just to save space. That seems off. Why can't we just stack pies on the ground in sets of 6 like iron bars?
A closet would be nice too. Though I think it may be more difficult to store multiple items.
Making rabbits and rabbit meat stack like iron would also help and if we could stack mutton and pork that would be great too.
One more: make copper and zince bars stack! So manly things don't stack that should and it makes the smith look like a mess. Stack copper ore, stack copper, stack pipes ... more stacking is needed. My favorite update of all time was when you made carrots stack. That's why it's my icon. That change made the game so much better and I just want more things along those lines!
I'm happy to make bread and often do, but it's tedious to move bowls of wheat around and you can't put a bowl of flour in a cart. It would be much nicer to bring two crocks out to the piles of wheat. Mash them in to flour and put it in the crocks then take the crocks back to the bakery where they would not take up so much space on the flour. I want wheat to work more like water buckets.
Wouldn't storage that works for only certain items be less taxing?
Let us put 6 bowls of flour in a crock pot.
Let us stack poop
Let us put more types of bowls in carts and baskets. I've had a github issue about this forever, there are all kinds of items that won't go in carts and boxes that should.
Let us put rubber tires on horse carts and store 6 items
Let us simply stack seeds on the ground.
Let us stack corn like carrots before it's shucked
Let us stack 4 squash in a neat pile
Let us put things like carnitas in to trash pits to empty the bowl
Let us put salt in a crock pot, say 6 bowls of salt so you could streamline production.
Let us make a crock of vinegar, with several bowls of vinegar
give us an upgraded version of the basket that lasts longer
let us put shelves on walls, even if they only hold 4 items like boxes this would make houses much more enjoyable.
Things like this would really help.
It'd be great to spend time making a few crocks of flour for the bakery and then the baker could just scoop out what she needs. It'd work like water buckets.
Agree.
I like the idea that any tool, hoes, shovels, chisel etc. can be used to attack a person. But it only harms them if 3 people hit them in quick succession.
Come at them with your pitchfork farmfolk.
Resources have not ever gotten so scarce that it was a huge problem IMO if you have a horse you could still get iron and if not iron tools from abandon towns.
I'd rather griefers roam the map trying to.... lol keep iron from re spawning than the other stuff that they do. Have at it!
I agree!

I've been seeing a lot of suggestions about what are essentially more tools to harm other players. Shackles, billy clubs, etc. I get the impulse. If you have a problem it's the direct approach. But I also think that we forget what fun such tools will be for griefers. If you are a player like me who isn't really interested in violence you will never be as skilled at using tools of violence as people who are.
Now I'm not exactly a pacifist not in this game or real life. But, I'm not interested in "combat" most players in this game aren't they just stand there when someone attacks, and you might find that unnatural but that is exactly how people react to violence IRL if they aren't familiar with it. It's only out of frustration that I've gotten to the point where I can stab the griefer when it needs to be done.
So, what kind of tools can peaceful people use?
-watch towers (a structure that let you look at the town on zoom when you go inside)
-tool racks (tools get stolen because it's a pain to account for them. Having a place for everything makes taking something much harder)
-Easier cursing: I don't use curses often and in some cases spelling the name correctly is an issue that keeps me from using it at all. I suspect that most players don't use their curse token and that's a good thing. It should be possible to click on a person and get their name typed in your bar for a curse. And if we are only allowed to curse in our own family why do we need to type the last name?
-no more griefing recruitment posts in the forum (Are you kidding me???)
Maybe there could be a "rare" curse token for outsiders. You only get one for every 4 hours of play but it works on anyone. IDK right now it's better than it was last week, but that isn't to say that I feel like the game is welcoming and supportive of constructive players.
Spoonwood wrote:I like your line of thinking Destiny. Maybe a long shaft could knock a weapon out of someone's hand, but it only works on a weapon, it won't work on a hoe for example.
That's really good too, but you would have to be fast and grab the weapon first from the ground to stop the fight.
Edit: Besides, if you try to kill the griefer he could do the same with the long shaft, and i think the fight would last more than we wish. I don't know man, its almost impossble to think about something griefers couldn't use against good players.
This. If you are a pacifist you aren't going to win in an arms race. LOL. Constructive players will never be as skilled in using these tools as griefers who see them as toys. I don't think adding more ways to harm players is the way forward. It will just be used to set up "funny" slave camps and god knows what else.
Constructive players need constructive tools: watch towers, better tool storage (would help with theft!), a less griefer friendly curse system, and most of all constructive players win by just outnumbering the chaos agents. I was just in a town that was a looted mess. Not all of the issues were due to griefing but in one generation we transformed the place, brought it back to life. Found the hidden tools, organized the bakery, make food, stacked up wood and got things humming.
As long as we outnumber the griefers by a large margin they are really ineffective.

In all honesty, the biggest mistake here is to reply to griefers threads. For once you are giving them visibility, and for seconds you are giving them your attention. There is nothing more sweet for a griefer to know that he made someone sad or angry. I could go a little deeper on the psychological reasons, but I rather not. The truth is, each reply to one of their threads is for a griefer a candy, a sweet reminder that he has the power to piss you off. Just don´t reply to griefer threads. Don´t reply to them because you are not going to change their view or make them feel bad. Don´t reply. Ever.
Someone also needs to tell Jason, that if you want griefers to challenge you and that is important, he doesn't have to endorse or condone it. It will happen , even if he says no don't. He needs to be the benevolent lord in a game to make a world people want to stay and make stories in.
Griefers are tough as weeds and will not go away even if you implement countless measure to reduce them, so don't worry, they will always be a challenge
Jason you hear me?
I really wish that Jason got this. Griefers exists if you say they are part of the ecosystem or not. Inviting them in is a bad idea they will take as much as you give and more. Frankly, I do find a little nonsense amusing A LITTLE that isn't what we have going right now.
I'd say:
-no more griefing recruitment and celebration posts in the official form
-no more saying "they are part of the story"
Defend the fun of the main player base not the fun of those who can only seem to have it by ruining the fun of countless others. How many people get turned off unhappy and just disenchanted with the game from one griefer getting his jollies? 5... 10? It's not sustainable.
I'm thinking about putting up fences or some kind of warning near iron mines to get people to stay out of picked over regions so we can hit that vein again. Maybe I'll just leave little piles of 3 stones or 3 lime stone and if you see those avoid any nearby stone biomes there is a mined-out vein there and if you walk past it it will stay mined out.
You should try asking on discord. There are tons of people just lingering around there and hopefully some have decent microphones and can do a little voice acting.
People were playing at "race war" in the town I was in as well. Like people think it's funny to yell "race war" and then the chains of killings start. My brother was one of the worst instigators. Killing people from the other town for no reason at all.
So I killed him.
IDK if it made things better but by then most everyone in both towns was dead anyway.
The whole things was really unpleasant and not in a weighty way. It just felt like a bunch of people playing at being racist and murders and letting their towns go to hell. No one had any clothing, there was almost no food. I felt like I was one of maybe 3 out of 15 people doing any work at all to make either town better.
I am of a similar opinion. One thing is to defend everyones right to play as they want (that includes griefing). Completely different is to endorse it by means social validation, by giving them extra power or by making them a counterpart to the game.
Really well said. Now we have people coordinating greifing in the forum as well it's really discouraging. I don't really care to battle greifers. I'm not here for that.
Give us pork and beef! PORK AND BEEF!
Pine wall recipe could be changed to adze + long shaft = notched shaft. Combine 4 notched shafts to get a Wooden Frame. Wood joints and joinery is realistic and doesn't require rope.
Pine walls could require mallet to loosen and then axe to destroy.
I agree on all counts. This recipe sounds pretty good. just add the pine needles to the frame tho. I really want to use pine needles for something.
I remember the long roads that we used to have, connecting two large towns, often a bell town and some other town. Now the bell town is best avoided, no one ever rings the bell and I haven't seen any "great roads" in a long time.
After all why would you want anyone to find your town? The best way to keep a town alive is to luck out and be on the edge of the main cluster of spawns and not have anyone happen across you.
And roads, especially long ones, make towns far too easy to find. No one wants to be found.
IDK. Maybe my observations are off, but are "great roads" dead?
