... in early camp. One starves face first into food. The other insta-suicides. Awesome feature. Ain't gonna keep any. They use 2 times food, are are 4 times as likely to die.
Squash seeds? I want my bowl back. What should I do? Don't want to waste soil and hoe. Quicklime? I don't need plaster for anything. Wheat? I don't have time to cook now. Berries? I'm not hungry. I need berry seeds.
I think it's broken. It should be more likely to be born into old town after server restart. After all you are killing everybody on purpose, so give higher chance to reestablish the town. With map wipes it's double plus ungood.
But given that it's humans, or at least humans hand-coding bots for this forum, I don't think that a honeypot with an invisible field will work.
That's not the main part. This one is:
https://fluxbb.org/resources/mods/spambarrier/
- Ability to control registrations and connections by querying the StopForumSpam database
- Ability to control registrations and connections with DNSBL servers
Not sure if it'll work in this case, but worth giving a try IMO. Currently more topics on first page of main forum are spam than there is real content.
Or if the child was female the village could decide to keep them alive as a broodmother by feeding them.
You propose to have incubators?
Actually I had one in a game. Girl went AFK, and I was old Eve. So I just moved her to warm spot, force fed berries from time to time and she keept pooping out babies. She was my best kid this run.
I was really dissapointed when she finally got back in a game.
- Job?
- Stay here, don't move. You're doing great ![]()
You can always choose to just raise one. I spawned as a foursome and the Ma just let me live because I was the best ;-)
They all aren't die at the same time (w/ broken heart or smth)?
So you really mean to say that without going back to the same town over and over and over, civilizations would cease to exist? I find that a little hard to swallow.
Currently I think that's the case. With your proposition it's enough that one gen fuck ups and the town is gone. We have ~140 people playing in the peak. Early morning Europe/middle of the night US it drops down to ~30. They're still split across 2-3 servers. Some are in Eve runs. So there are few people in a town. If all of them are noobs that don't know why and how to compost, they'll just starve there. If they are lucky and do not starve, griefer logs in and kills them.
Scorp, never had a surprise party?
Open the box! What's in it?
Surprise!!Headless domestic geese!
Cool, I always wanted one ![]()
Like I said though, I enjoy me a good city run as much as the next guy. I don't want to be stuck making a forge and a farm every 30 minutes. I understand you being irked, but it didn't have anything to do with trying to force everyone to only do eve runs. I know that probably doesn't make it any better, but just wanted to make sure that's known. I'm not out to kill the city life and what people like about it.
But your proposition would have exactly that effect. It takes 10-15 gens to build a town. If you have a skill and a bit of luck it takes 30 minutes to kill it. Banning Eve spawns there wouldn't cause mass of new towns to pop up. The effect would be that there wouldn't be even single viable town most of the time. And a lot of less players.

That is exactly what I was referring to, you still haven't specified what exactly you meant with your comment. I'm just going to assume you meant to say that I was a "butthurt griefer" and taking actions solely based on this belief.
You misquoted me. This is what I said:
I was referring to this:
FeignedSanity wrote:You can kill a city (and I have) over, and over, and over; [...]
There's no ending to any of these cities, death is pointless. A city dying out doesn't mean a damn thing, [...]
So a griefer complaining that he killed city over and over and people have still fun playing in it. "I worked so hard to destroy it and I want them suffer endless Eve runs! Jason help!"
And I swear, no one is reading the whole OP.
I read it. It's just petition to Jason, to stop people from having fun rebuilding towns after griefer attack.
I said that I have baby suicide multiple times, and don't want to have to keep repeatedly doing so. And the solution, is by no means trivial. It is a very tedious, and sometimes time consuming process. I don't start up the game just to close and open it another 15 times.
Clicking few buttons tedious? Looks like you never did anything really tedious in your life. You're being just a drama queen. Some games start up longer, than it takes to suicide few times in OHOL. And it never took me 15 times to get born as Eve. Heck I'm born as Eve most of the runs. I wish I could get born in towns more often that 2-3 times a day.
That's strange, never seen that, except in old towns.
Bow, arrow, RMB may be good workaround ![]()
+1 to removing straight shaft, sometimes it's just a misclick
Also, while we're at it, why it's not possible to put shafts on cart? You can put branches...
And chests without locks are just annoying - I don't understand why they are there at all. What's their purpose?

I'm not sure what you mean by this.
I was referring to this:

I feel like I'm back in the old days before decay and hidden coordinates, and it's just frustrating.
A lot of people miss those times. Solution to you problem it trivial: baby suicide 3-4 times. With esc+% takes 30 seconds. Or switch to different server, where there are no towns.
Why you want to prevent people that like to play in towns from doing so?
Butthurt griefer or what?
So this was bout 40 minutes ago?
Yep.
Absolutely nothing on the graph for server2 at that time. No CPU spike, not network bandwidth spike, no disk usage spike.
Very strange.
If there was a problem in the server code, I'd expect to see a CPU spike.
Not necessarly. The most likely cause for me is database access. I haven't looked at the server code, but KissDB is not thread safe, so either server is single threaded or you must serialize db access somewhere. If three requests from different clients come at the same time and each takes, say 50 ms to handle, then first client will see latency of 50ms+his network RTT, second one 100ms+RTT, thrid one 150ms+RTT. For somebody in Europe total request RTT will be 300-350ms.
Try to log timestamps of request/response pairs in server code. Just make sure that socket reader is on separate thread, otherwise you'll get very imprecise results. I.e. if you read the message, handle it and write respone in 100ms, and then handle another one also in 100ms, the latency for second one may be 101ms (if the request just come) or 199 ms (if it arrived immediately after you started handling the first one).
But if it's not that, then it's probably just normal linode network lag. Maybe something else is going on with the host machine for the VPN node at that moment. You know, sometimes websites are slow to load for a minute or so, and then they come back to normal.
Not likely. From what I've seen during last game I estimate total latency to peak in 500-1000ms range. They would get compaints from many many customers if their network or disk lag would be that bad. Even websites would feel sluggish - usually it's not one read per page but like 50+ various resources (html, css, js, images, etc.).
If you want some more help with this, please contact me privately. I've been working on both games and soft real-time systems in the past. So troubleshooting this kinds of problems and getting systems to perform an order of magniture or two faster is bread and butter for me.
If you experience a lag spike that is not "just you" (if other people complain about it in game, or via discord), can you note the time (and time zone) and post it here?
~18:30 CEST
server2.onehouronelife.com
Buncing 3-4 times while picking up items. Others reported the same.
I have also the problem that when someone picks me up (as baby) and put me back down, my camera follows the woman lol. Seems like the game things I'm still in her arms and act likewise, but I'm not. Mostly I see it when I hear the hunger tune so I know I'm not carried but it is weird.
If you have seen it very recently, please send replay to Jason. It should have been fixed since end of last week.
Is there anyway to speed it up or something?
As an Eve's child learn how to forage. Make a sharp stone, a basket, figure out what you can eat and how. If you can keep yourself alive, bring your mom some good food (budrock, onions, wild carrots, catcus fruits), so she can keep building the camp.

^^ YAHG as good as always.
I think it deserves opening a champagne bottle, isn't it?
P.S. It's still one without alcohol for you Aurora, right?
That sorta arms race won't go anyway, the Satan bot can already eat berries.
Yep, this won't go away. But we can fingerprint Satan bot now pretty easily.
The point of that strategy is that you just keep clicking respawn. If they feed you as a baby, fine it is time you worked off.
The real time you will get is when you run out of lineages to be born to and you are Eve again.
Eve starts with MASSIVE full food bar, easily 5 minutes of food. It doesn't matter if you die , you just come back and live/die again.
Eventually you wear off your curses.
We can make additional rule, that you need to live until old age for your curse points to be cleared.
