You would imagine you would make some extreme meta gaming by yourself with a mass of players who don't have as much of experience of the game than some of us... but it's quite a struggle
I guess only thing you can do is continue to play and try to teach new things. It's not hard... it's just, people are sometimes just damn clueless... it happens to me sometimes too, and I need to hit and miss on jobs that might be doable or not.

#27 Re: Main Forum » No family can even survive!! » 2019-08-05 11:36:18

There have been several occasions, where family wanted to be (solo family), so they wanted to keep their family safe from other families from interrupting them.
It was this one ginger family, that kept shooting brown ppl who kept coming to see us with hearts on their heads. Angry faces didn't make them go away so we had to have few of them shot, and gain free loot. It's sad but simple 'go away' doesn't work nowadays when they think it's 'hi sexy'.
They didn't go that far, but they had quite an ambition.

Sometimes eves have to understand, that some families just simply 'don't' need you. If they needed you, they would probably show it, but it's often very unlikely. Eves just gotta try to struggle through elsewhere and wish they get a good spawn to live in.

No point in using that, when you can implement roman numeral system for more complex numeral situations

the biggest problem i see is no ownership on items

so you do alll work to make compost and someone helps who gets the points?
like you can prepare everything for engine and worth a lot of poins but some toddler assembles it then he made the car,no?
you stack the furs and others make a pack? or you make packs when people don't need it
or you make 10 hatchets for the points and no ropes can be found i ncity

Good point. I think there should be no point yields on repeatable things like stacking items, and progress should be shared in stages as when it's done

Rope + short shaft = 10
short shaft with rope + sharp stone = 10

and not yielding points in techs that are only about 1-2 stages long. Rope being an exception I think, because you can't really spam it too much.
So spammable items should not yield points, only items or jobs that have value in village, should have some sort of point system to encourage people equally in jobs.
Other than that, you have solid point.

I was having quite sleepless nights during waiting for my tests from college and university to be checked on. During those endless waitings I began to wonder about OHOLs situations and reasons I began to lose my touch in going in daily. It was mainly because of advantages taken from every aspect and I don't really blame anyone for it.
But then again, I came up with very stupid idea. What if you earned karma points from creating tech? Like for example, you earn 25 points if you create a hatchet or 5 points if you put soil and water on any plant. Doesn't sound very realistic itself, but is it any more or less realistic than your spontant rebirthing and dying because the mother stuffs you with gear.
It would make advanced cities once again another place to consider worth looking at, when you could earn points by progressing in there.

Where you would use those points, then?
Maybe giving a small starter pack for next Eve run, like basket of hatchet, bow drill and rope/sharp stone.
Or entirely blocking /die function, only having it as a reward for reasonable price for each, so that it would not be overused...
but it would not be entirely overrided option.
Or for new players, unlocking tutorial features for technologies you haven't learned yet, but would like to 'specialize'.
Or ancestor perks. Family first generations not only leave behind their property and pretty new children, but their own designed specialities. Considering that in biology races have developed through mutation, so it would feel odd to find black bears by iceberg.
Perhaps for very experienced and buffed with points, would be able to give next generations temporary boost abilities to use, for example swift feet, or flexibility (instead of 100% hit chance from animals, you might dodge if using boost at right time.), or fast learner (foreign languages begin to resemble more their original text, and it is little easier to see what other families have to say.), or green thumb (farm products may yield more seeds, fruits give you 10%-15% more pip)

It's silly, but if I was to live in advanced city (which I often enjoy more than in being in early village, which isn't really as bad)
The achievements in city doesn't mean that much there, so having points system would even the scales both in early and advanced cities.

Oh... and maybe give small cooldown once you die, like 5 minutes. I've found myself playing 6 hours without taking break, so forcing break would help ppl stretch their legs.

#31 Re: Main Forum » JASON!!! SAID THAT GRIEFING IS IMPORTANT!! » 2019-04-26 09:20:28

I myself find griefing refreshing part of the game.

No, sometimes it doesn't feel great, it doesn't feel right and certainly doesn't feel what you paid for.
But it is a social aspect of which you kind of need to deal with.
Have you seen how many interesting stories have sprout up from killings? How many exciting stories of heroes chasing the villains and saving towns?
If you just complain that "Wooo... they kill just because they want to eradicate town."
You are either a pussy, or just can't deal with player punishing yourself. You have no right to complain if you yourself are unable to protect while you can.

I myself never saw OHOL as simple building simulator. Never really did. I enjoy and still do enjoy when someone decides to challenge town into killing game. It challenges your willpower of surviving. It challenges your "Kill or to be killed" ideal, in which you pretty much have no choice when it happens.
If OHOL didn't have this pvp aspect, I don't think this game would have any meaning as community game at all.
Call griefing whatever you want, but it is riskiest job to grief because you can be isolated to DK in one go if you're stupid enough. That's why it should challenge them as well, and in turn, challenge you.

#32 Re: Main Forum » warning others » 2019-04-26 09:10:01

White name? The names you see in OHOL from bottom screen are black, not white.
Black should be default name, but if they begin to gain infame, it should be colored dark red.
The brighter the red goes, the easier it is to tell that the person is up to no good.
After about 10 so called infame has increased, it would become purple, and it would not change up until the 10+ infame has began to drop down during gameplay below 9.

But then again. Why would we need these warning things? We already have a curse system. Those players who are in donkey town are still people. I don't see this very humanly ideal especially for such casual game. It's nothing too serious, and besides this warning thing would only make people go more idler doing what they want.

In that case, no need of warnings, as long as you're socially active in stress simulation as OHOL and aware of surroundings, you should be solid.

We don't need tools for people's convenience of being lazy. You should know your family well, I mean that's what real life is as well. You don't simply systematically warn others about your sister who just happened to steal your favourite toy teddy.

i was actually one of the dead babies in the last one. I was kinda looking for something to do other than being a curse point.

Can't wait to give this a go, if I ever get to be an Eve... the game really had jumped in popularity after this update, it feels like.

#36 Re: Main Forum » Tragedy of the commons comes to life when people have their "own" » 2019-04-21 05:05:32

In my opinion, only sensible use property fences could be used, is as sheep pen. Althought little controversial, I myself don't even know if those fences are permanent or not, but it would make sheep caretaking little bit more safer, since you see bit too often people putting in fenced areas other than sheep, like cows, dogs, pigs you name it.
Besides, having property house would be cool. Though it's hard to see even working, since you can STILL build on front of gateway and griefe even property area. If used as nursery, it becomes nuisance because kids need to get outside, fire users need to come inside etc....

It begs for a question, which reasonable usage it would be given?
- Stew making/stew ingredient farm. I think it would be vital, because how many times I've seen stew tech items missing?
- Cow pen? Make a small L shaped property with cow inside? like
ooo
oxoo
onno
oouo

o= property fence
x= cow
n= reserved for item - or berry bush
u= property gate
I mean... it could work?

Jobs or places which I don't think should be made into property (because it would automatically piss others off)
-Smithery, I saw this one in one village. Town was really angry at happy smith doing his job alone.
-Bakery, so many people run about there, finding food. Very very rarely see any players actually delivering. If delivery thing was more used, it would make property usage more fine.
-Storage, you can dismantle knives, but you cannot really break arrows and bows, so you probably have to make small property storage for those only. Other than that, it has no critical use imo.

Said question above ^

In said decaying cities, where there are items all over the place, possibly in huge mess, lots of knives and other weapons. It might feel frigging overwhelming, I do agree. But if you begin to replace the decaying items with new ones with anything available in the city (which often times is stocked with them, hoes, compost etc.)

-Personally, knowing that there is at least one basket helps you go a long way. If there are materials at hand, for example unused buttlogs, boards, and stuff, I'd go for at least 1 cart, if all the vehicles in city have already decayed.
-If found any clothing, perhaps try to dress anything best possible, especially if you have to do outside errands far away from food, for e.x. rabbits.
-Farm wheat!!!!!! You need to replace baskets, because decaying baskets are ticking timebombs. Those will burst all the items all over the place, so having plenty of wheat ongoing, if any compost remaining or any other source, or hoes. With bread update it is easier to use the huge amounts of wheat without needing of sheep meat.
-hammer the unnecessary knives. 2-3 knives is enough to have. You get short shaft for kindling and blade for using on bowl for scrap metal. Also handy if there is iron tool shortage, or you need to have tools coming without worry, but don't have anything else but stockload of knives.
-Hunt rabbits. You'll need your family to carry items all over the messy city, so having bags for them will help ease their workload trementously. Having at least 2-4 baskets from farmed wheat, a cart is ideal, and the made/found rabbit snares in savannas (if any around).

Nope. Nope nope nope nope xd

#40 Re: Main Forum » Least favorite wild animal (excluding skeeters) » 2019-04-18 18:18:48

Snakes when you're riding with a horse/horsecart
Wild boars and wolves when you're on foot, they have long distance runs and are almost impossible to avoid if they managed to cross to your path. I've been so many times sniped by pigs and wolves off screen while running errands for town.
It's difficult, but once again, when you're in hurry, you can't make it safe very easily.
Only thing I've tried to do with these issues is make 'safe item roads' to avoid being targeted. Swamps are more difficult since only items that you can use 'that do not decay' are raw clays, and if you don't have enough of them, you have to kill boars around....
Sigh.

You had great family, but due running girl griefer, we couldn't succeed past next generation.
I spent the rest of my life, while mom suicided, in getting sheep back in pen, get mutton pies stocked and cooked, and made another deep well, not to mention killing remaining wild pigs running in outskirts.
It's sad what the family-shopping really does to some families, that are actually doing good, but for first few seconds for others, it's just bad.

Very hard for me to relate this DT system although I opposite it, even though I've never even been in DT, since I've always been nice, and just.
Perhaps you being in DT teaches you other things than being a griefer.
- Unable to connect with people, lack of convo
- Unable to work
- Unable to co-operate?

Of course, some new people may be very slingy when throwing cusses. I've been cursed sometimes, but it hasn't really affected me. The most curse count I've ever had was 5.

You did grief a town with pitbulls, demonstration or not, you did end up griefing it. You are a griefer, end of debate. You know you could've shown the same but instead of bringing pitbulls you would have brought poodles and told the forumers to simply imagine it's putbulls instead.

Every town was once an eve settlement, what makes greifing a big town okay? Jealous due it's sucess while other eve towns do not? Most eves fail, grieferd or not, there is NO reason to greif those camps that DID make it past settlement.

So true.

So basicly, when i was a beginer in OHOL i was playin' alone, but with time, as i was learning, my gf joined me in our adventures in a such cute game. We started playing twin, like forever, and do all our best to make a great team and help the place where are borned to prosper. We never griefed a single place at all, even people sometimes were rude. Doing all the mighty work we posibly can, especialy my gf love to farm and everything stands on it, if the town neded more people help in other directions, we split to help everybody, and didn't stayed together if society needs help. As babys we roleplayed, sharing our clothes, if someone gifted 'em to us and using /blush /happy, etc. cute emotions. My gf even was afraid of using a knife, and does all the job with it very carefully.

But i am sick with one thing. The twin hate. Yes, i know and unrestand that people are afraid interacting with twins, that they might be griefers. Almost every day of our play-session at least two moms leave us to death (/sad) first like 20 times i was patient now THIS, this thing get me sooo mad, that i really can't hold my nervs and decided to cry here on forums. The last drop was, that we was borned in Eve camp, our mom turned old, our big "sis" wanted us dead, and said "No twins, or have happy time with no girls" and runned away, pushing the mom to follow her. That day haved another situation, where a middle town was griefed by locking the main door and hiding the needed tools. And i swear to god, if people knowed that we are twins, 100% most of 'em will be blaiming us. But there are people, who believed in us, bless 'em with their kindness and warm greetings in their lives, the last guy was called Dennis, sweet fella, love him <3.

So what i wanted to say. Even a single player can grief an entire town, so what now, kill all kids? Thx for reading my post...
https://pp.userapi.com/c851032/v8510329 … Z7ImBE.jpg

I don't think that's the issue really. It has been long time fixed previously, so that the griefers cannot use this method to get out from DT with their friends.
More bigger of concern is, that just like other kids, there is a chance that they will plan to die instead of staying there. This camp shopping is bit annoying, and having more babies come and litter the camp up is double/triple/quatruple pain in the ass.
It's not your fault, all you really need to do, is be patient and hope to be accepted in family. Shit happens, I was accused of stealing tools even though I was chasing thief hiding them behind trees. Heck, impatience doesn't really get you far in this game... like at all.

i think is unfair that no eve chaining for donkey town
i would sya that if you are a donkey, join s15 don't name anyone, and run a family line with girls only
a lot of donkeys were smart people, like i made an axe, fire, and just sit there, son brought like 6 bear rugs, fed me, tend to fire, and went out hunting more, havent even seen people in normal game who tned to fire that long
or other life my 2 kids helped to build a berry farm, make the first tools and we chilled in a fire talking, i even born back to them

It's just sad that they don't have this "Respect is everything." mentality in normal servers that often. Considering that these edgy kids come from GTAV or other gang games.

I personally end up chatting casually with dying family either in early Eve or griefed dying family.
It's quite casual, although the survival aspect and the half minute warning of you dying in hunger kinda hurries people to make it happen.
Though, experience will only grow. There were dumb noobs back then, there will be always dumb noobs.
But bejeezus, this curse tossing discourages even those who haven't even done anything to deserve it. Griefers do but those who are wrongly named, accused and such. People especially without zoom mod are so blind of what would happen around, so this would easily happen unless there is a person who checks the surroundings all the time.

And even more problematic is that Eve-chaining (even on empty servers) is not possible while in Donkey-Mode. This prohibits one from going above Eve-lvl and thus makes the game mostly unplayable.

Maybe good way of avoiding those casual killers who otherwise enjoying making their lone base as Eve.
